+1 excellent advice, I think uber might also have started accepting cash in Medellin because I noticed one of my drivers had a wad of small denomination bills in his ashtray like the taxistas do. You named all the benefits. As for sending a car, my tip is to send it to a nearby landmark like restaurant or really anything that shows up near your chica's location on google maps. Uber has been having GPS challenges resolving street addresses the past 4 or 5 months. There are two sides to every story. You will encounter delays getting an uber at prime time rush hour (hora de pico). Those are the times it's more convenient to flag down a taxi.

I have it set up on a cash basis rather than a credit card. Since the app tells me the fare, I give the chica a little extra. 20 mil covers almost all trips, except from Poblado to Bello. That way, if she wants to go some other place, then any extra fare is her responsibility.

I have had a few snags with Uber. On the last trip, I met a guy on the airplane who was going to Poblado and his friend had ordered an Uber to pick him up at the airport. He invited me to share the ride. The driver ended up going right by my apartment, so he did not have to go out of his way. Also, he did not have to wait at the airport because when we came out of baggage claim he was not there. We went to the ATM and when we returned, the driver was there. He charged 80 mil. Too much! Sometimes the driver just doesn't show up. I track him on the app and when he (or she) is close to the apartment, I go outside. A few times, they just disappeared. I had one who input a charge because he said I wasn't there. When I was tracking him, he went towards the Mansion when he got close to Park Lleras. I stay near Park Lleras, not at the Mansion. Even then, I waited for him outside the apartment. A message to Uber reversed the charge, but in the meantime I could not summon another Uber unless I agreed to pay the charge.

One other point to add to SavePros321's points, when a driver accepts my request, I always send a message to tell them my exact location. Sometimes their app doesn't work well with GPS.

I just wanted to shout out this board for always providing detailed (and entertaining) insight on the local culture in Medellin. I've had 3 trips to the city of Eternal Spring (my trips are all detailed thoroughly in this forum) - and am itching for a 4th trip (Medellin always calls LOL). I was wondering if anybody has any insight as to whether mid-to-late April is a good time to visit. It seems as if flights are cheap and accommodations are readily available and I'm wondering if that's because it's not a great time to visit? I've only been in September, December & January (and all were excellent visits in terms of hobbying). Any wisdom is appreciated.

As for some hotly debated topics on the forum:

-I've never felt in danger walking in El Centro at reasonable hours. And with my senses heightened and aware to my surroundings. I also speak very limited Spanish. But am an experienced traveler and exercise situational awareness when a foreigner. I've felt more danger in many US cities in the wrong areas than I have walking around Medellin. But that doesn't mean I'm not always on guard, scanning my surroundings for any red flags, and am cautious when in an unfamiliar city halfway across the globe from my home.

-my experiences with cabs have been nothing but excellent in Medellin. And never felt the need to be dropped of blocks away from my destination. But then again, I'm not engaged in any illegal activity. So I don't feel a need to be paranoid.

-while being fluent in spanish undoubtedly makes the experience better. You can still have an amazing experience with limited spanish proficiency.

-have never tried uber in Medellin. Thanks for the heads-up! I'll give it a try.

Everything was the same as any other time of the year I have visited. There were plenty of beautiful young ladies available. I'll be going in the first half of April this year.

And I never thought about that! Excellent advice because most likely the Uber driver is not just going to drive through the barrio to pick up a Chica right in front of her house like they would in the US, hahaha.

Is this rumor true?[/QUOTE]I can confirm there are lots of Venezuelans in Colombia (apparently more in Bogota, Bucaramanga, Cucuta for obvious reasons). What I can't confirm is that they are "fair-skinned" Venezuelans. I don't know if you're aware, but Colombia and Venezuela are very similar countries, including racial/ethnic mix (and it's a good one!).

So you have been to Colombia and you think the girls are not light enough? My buddy has been to Medellin and he says the girls aren't dark enough. My girlfriend is Colombian and she is white as snow. I think some of y'all have been going to the wrong Colombia.

These are what was also called the Bolivians, after the independence from Spain lead by Simon Bolivar who is their great leader as to George Washington to the US. So it is kinda funny when you answered. Both Colombians and Venezuela are and call each other sister countries and so goes back to questions from guys about VZ girls who are as mentioned cut from the same cloth that they want to see what the difference is. I've been with both and only difference is that border.

Bolivia was never part of the Viceroyalty of New Granada. First, like all the others (except parts of coastal Venezuela), it was part of the Viceroyalty of Perú. Then it became part of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata, not the Viceroyalty of New Granada. I believe there were about 40 years between the establishment of the Viceroyalty of Grenada and the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata, with the former being first. I can tell you off the top of my head that the latter was created in the same year as the Declaration of Independence for the United States, 1776. New Granada was early to mid XVIII century. Bolivia still had a coastline back in those days.

I've been with both and only difference is that border.[/QUOTE]And out of those five countries, Colombia and Venezuela are (by far) the most similar as far as racial / ethnic mixes and appearance of the women. If one doesn't like the stereotypical Colombian look, he isn't going to like the Venezuelan look and vice versa. This isn't to say there's no variation in looks / complexion within each country. There absolutely is. One can find fair-complexioned Colombianas y Venezuelanas and one can find very dark girls in both countries. But on average, they are very, very similar.
