Jakarta - Hotels

You will be fairly close to Kartika but no, you are not within walking distance. Should be 10 minutes by taxi unless it's rush hour.

Just tell the driver "Jalan Mangga Besar and Jalan Hayam Wuruk" while making a cross with your two hands (to indicate an intersection). That always works for me. Then look/ask for the Suisse Bakery - if you have the Hotel Mercure behind you, then the Suisse Bakery should be in front of you. The alley to the side of the Suisse Bakery is where Kartika and Berlian are located. The Stadium Disco is three alleys down past the Suisse Bakery.

Hope you enjoy your visit. BTW, if you go to Kartika soon, the famous Cynthia has been home at her "kampung" (home village) for the last three weeks, so she may or may not be on duty. If not, ask to see Rista and Sonia, and if you're not impressed, take a look around. Or, walk 10 meters up the alley to Berlian and ask for Ina or "You-see." Good luck!

It depends on what you qualify as walking distance. If the shops are still open, you can take a short-cut through Blok M mall and the Terminal. But after 22.00 pm that will not be possible and it will take about 20/25 minutes to walk back.
I have stayed there and so has Jaimito Cartero. If you are claustrophobic, don't take the cheaper rooms. No windows!
Very girl friendly as you could expect from a hotel in the Melawai block. In-house massage with happy ending HJ also possible. Maybe even more. Me, I haven't succeeded.

I am going to be at a show in Kemayoran in october, and have been offered a nice price for this place. US$ 65.00 net inc breakfast.
Thing is, I don't know much about it.
Does anyone know how far to the convention center this place is, also is there anything good around there, (anyone gone hunting in Lindeteves shopping mall?), and lastly of course, is it GF?

I stay here 2 yr ago nice clean room good locations just 2 block from Stadium and 15 min walk to loposari plaza, not sure where the convention center is at, I paid 40 usd for a standard room with queen bed with buffet breakfast many Chinese bussines man stay here and I think is own by Chinese.

Hi stayed there a few months ago
Nice rooms-although showers require bending down to about 130cm
Brekkie was OK Pool etc-crap
def GF and the whole place has a feeling of sleaze-great!
Its the hunting areas but I personally prefer the other side of town-its just too downmarket for me although as you know Jk has many hidden places
shopping is good and if you get a honey take her to Cafe Batavia for lunch

You are not that close to the convention center; it will be around a 15-20 minute taxi ride (maybe longer in traffic) straight down the main north-south road which has a succession of different names - Jl. Hayam Wuruk, Jl. Thamrin, Jl. Sudirman. The convention center is next to the Sultan Hotel (formerly the Hilton). If traffic is really bad, take the Transjakarta bus to the "Polda" stop and wak over to the convention center.

US $65 at the current exchange rate is just over 600,000 rupiah, which means that you're not really getting that good a deal. For that price, you should be able to get a room with breakfast at a much nicer hotel; in fact, you could probably get a room at the Sultan for that price and walk next door to the convention. To get a good rate, go to the Hotel Reservations Desk at the airport when you arrive in Jakarta, I think it's the KAHA desk? or check on the Internet. I think there's a web site quoted somewhere on this board.

Yes, the Mercure is close to Stadium, Kartika Spa, Lokasari Plaza, etc. but many of those places will be closed down until Oct. 20th or so because of Ramadan and Lebaran. Keep that in mind, you said October in your post, without any specific dates.

Of course, 30 minutes by taxi, when it comes to Jkt, really means you are next door to where you are going. Sometimes it seems it might be faster to walk. I will be there October 25.
Any other suggestions, close to the venue, clean, decent, and good for the hobby?

The Mecure is a long way from the convention centre. The Atlet on the other hand, is a fairly casual ten minute walk through the park from there. Added benefits of nearby shopping malls and the Busway close by to get elsewhere. Rooms from $50 USD all inclusive on [url]www.wotif.com[/url]

The trip back and forth from Kota gets a bit wearing from there, but seeing there won't be much up that way for the next month, there probably isn't much reason to stay in that area when you need to be elsewhere each day.

There are many many posts on this subject: in summary, you will asked a million rupiah (100USD) for what you can get for 400k upwards elsewhere.

Great hotel! As far as Bats goes, I was there a couple of weeks ago and got one for 600,000, but that was near closing time during Ramadan. Almost more gringos there than girls many nights.

One thing may work in Bats, if you're staying at Shangri-La and are too lazy to go out. Propose 500k to one or two girls. Usually they'll refuse. Give them your mobile phone number "just in case they change their minds later", and go to bed. At closing time they may call you rather than go home empty-handed.

To Close For Renovation

Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta has announced that the hotel will close on December 23, 2007 in order to undergo a far-reaching renovation, which will reposition the property as the city's most luxurious and contemporary hotel.

Details of the exact nature of the renovation are still to be finalized, however substantial changes will be made to the property, including a significant reduction in the number of rooms. Due to the extensive nature of the planned renovation, the hotel will be closed for a significant period.
