Yes this is my first post. I am in Indo about 2 weeks a month and seeing I'm in and around Jambi more and more I'd like to know more from those that 'know more'. If you've heard differently from what I've heard then I'd appreciate if you would like to share.

Was only in Makassar for one night, so I don’t have anything new to report, just to reconfirm what Menteng wrote (in February 2006) and what That Asshole and some others have written.

Stayed in Hotel Pantai Gapura, a 3-star hotel, one of three hotels side-by-side in downtown Makassar, right on the water and only a few meters south of Fort Rotterdam (one of the few tourist attractions in this city). The other hotels in this area are the Makassar Golden Hotel (4 stars) and the Losari Beach Hotel (2 stars?). Note: I did not try the hotel's massage service.

1) [U]Becak drivers & houses with girls:[/U] On the street outside the 3 hotels, there are lots of becak (pedicab) drivers. All of these guys were very persistent in wanting to peddle me to nearby houses (15 minutes away) where supposedly lots of pretty girls are waiting to be picked by me and brought back to my hotel. I decided not to take any of these guys up on their offer, however.

2) [U]The nightclub “Colors”:[/U] is located right next to the Hotel Pantai Gapura, seems like a nice spot, but also seems to be a regular night club where most of the girls are just regular local girls, not working girls. Many of the girls I saw were with their boyfriends, but that could be because I was there in a weeknight. Also, I only stayed until 12:45 a.m. so maybe the place got hotter after I left. Note: I did not visit M Club or Botol Cafe, the two other discos that are often mentioned on this board.

3) [U]Beach road/street action:[/U] Just south of the Makassar Golden, the road/sidewalk runs directly besides the ocean, and there were lots of people sitting on the sea wall. I walked here around 11 p.m. and a mid-30ish mamasan who was sitting on the wall stopped me and asked me if I wanted a girl. Instantly, two girls in their late 20s appeared from a nearby café and stood in front of me. I was not impressed with either one so I said no thanks and walked away.

4) [U]Jalan Nusantara:[/U] About 100 meters (walking distance) north from the Hotel Pantai Gapura and the Colors nightclub is the red-light district on Jalan Nusantara, mainly low-end karaoke bars with 4 massage/brothels side-by-side in the middle. As Menteng had mentioned, the most well-known one is the Madonna, with the Klasik, Q&Q and the Raja all next to it. Also, as “That Asshole” wrote in Sept. 2006: “there are young, pretty girls sitting in groups next to some tables with lots of soft drinks. Some are very attractive. They will hiss you down as you walk past. Short time hotels are nearby.”

The Q&Q spa had closed its massage section at 9 p.m. so I didn’t see the girls there. The other three places offered the same quality of girls, all sitting on rows of benches in a stairstep arrangement at one end of the room, but no fishbowl, you could go right up and talk to the girls if you wanted to. I saw more cute girls (at least 4 or 5) at the Klasik than at the Madonna or the Raja, but that’s just personal choice and timing.

Prices have increased since Menteng had visited, the house fee for Madonna is now 200,000 rupiah, while Klasik is 125,000 rupiah, both for one hour (I did not ask at the other two places). The price for the Klasik was posted at the counter, the price at Madona was not posted, maybe I was over-quoted as I'm a bule (foreigner).

I am not a Karaoke fan, however I walked into a couple of places to have a look. The karaoke bars are places where you sit and drink with the girl and sing and drink. These places do NOT seem to have rooms in the back or upstairs, although the girls are available for take-out.

5) [U]Klasik:[/U] I ended up choosing the two youngest-looking girls at the Klasik and asked them if they wanted to go together with me. One of the girls, Mira, was thin and very pretty but looked to be barely 18 and seemed shy, looking as if she had just started working there. The other girl, Devi, was heavier and not as cute, but ok looking; she appeared to be 19 or 20. They appeared surprised but said yes, so I paid two house fees of 125,000 rupiah each at the desk and we went upstairs.

The room was as Menteng described, fairly basic, with a shower stall but no hot water. There was no wooden door, just a curtain, but there were several hooks to fasten the curtain to the door frame.

As soon as we got into the room, Devi asked if I wanted to use a condom, I said yes, so she ran out and quickly got one. A good starting point!

Once the session started however, the two girls did not seem to know what to do, so I asked them and they claimed that they had never been with a “bule” (foreigner) customer before. I expressed my surprise, their reply was that the place did not get many foreigners as customers. They also told me that yes, they had only worked there a short time and no, they had never worked together in a 3-some (I believe this), they also claimed to be 22 years old (I definitely did not believe that).

The first 30 minutes of the session consisted of a lousy 4-hands massage and lots of giggling and acting shy whenever I tried to kiss them or play with their titties. Sorry for delay in posting. I spent one day & night in jog in late march. Thanks to earlier posts I was able to target possibilities. Stayed at Mutiara hotel , the better of the two located in main street. Very comfortable & also girl friendly.

Walked into Corona at 7pm. Papasan immediately asked if I came in taxi. As the answer was no he advised take out to hotel for whole night was 300k. Basically it boils down to Kilometer 24, which is a brothel village. Go early in the afternoon and you can have your pick. Typical costs are around SGD 50 for the girl and around the same for a good hotel like Rainbow, which has a car service so you don't have to worry about taxis and stuff, the first time you are there.

From three years ago....

There was at least one small grouping of houses within the city proper, each containing 10 to 20 women. A taxi driver took me to one location about 7 minutes from the pier. Cost was low, between R180,000 and R250,000 for all night, with a 7 at my hotel. There has to be lots of other venues, but they are not obvious to a newcomer. I'd ask a taxi driver.
