Thanks Harrison for the comment. Having lived in HK Beijing and here I understand that there are premiums ocassionally charged in a Chinese context. I failed to elaborate that I had visited several hotels over the Ch new year weekend, including 2 in Bkt Bintang, one on Old Klang Road and one in Mid Valley. None had a supplement except the Cabana.
When all do the same thing its accepted practice.. when one isolated case happens it can and will be construed as a rip off. Theres no reason for it and I dont enjoy being gouged. Otherwise Ch New year was fine and enjoyable.

There's no justification for slapping a surcharge on the day rate, CNY or not. Restaurant price hikes are justified cos of increased cost of food & veg, staff overtime etc...but this is the first time I've heard of raising hotel day rates.
