I was told recently that with Orange cell phones in DR, if a person has their Orange cell off, voice messages and text messages cannot be sent to that person's orange cell. With Claro, voice messages and text messages can be sent to a Claro cell phone that is turned off.
I have never received a message with Claro saying the cell number cannot be reached, as I have many times when calling Orange cell phones.
I am planning a DR vacation for a week during September.
I have few questions:
When is the best time to buy a flight ticket from the US?
(Last minute. 2 weeks in advance or 2 month in advance)
Should I bring Condoms from home or one can find quality brands in the local pharmacies?
Any suggestions regarding any items to bring from the US to make my vacation more enjoyable are most welcome.

Thanks[/QUOTE]Sometimes AA Advantage has super saver weekend getaway fares available a week before travel. There is no particular advantage in booking early and sometimes you can get a real bargain by booking late. A large part of the price is the taxes anyway.
Bring you own condoms, as they are better and cheaper in the US, also you may not be able to find the Super Jumbeau Grandes that most ISG mongers need.
Bring shorts, beach towel, swim trunks, favorite type of tea or coffee if required, money (lots of) , netbook or tablet with wifi if you have one, lightweight clothing, shoes. I find a pair of crocs sandals are very useful as they are very light and can be worn at the beach, pool, and also to walk around town and it is very easy to rinse off sand from the beach, dry them when wet, and they are comfortable to walk on the very rough sidewalks here, use them indooors, etc. Etc. Sneakers can easily get hot, sweaty, and smelly here due to heat and humidity. Sport socks, so your feet don't get blistered.
Long pants are better for evening wear. Of course you can wear what you want, but chicas are very quick to sum people up by their appearance, so if you look kind of vaguely managerial by Dominican standards, you may get more respect and attention, although these things don't matter a lot as everyone has their own style.
You may wish to bring some kind of hat for the sun, or sunblock lotion if exposure to sun is a problem for you. Also hydrocortisone cream for sunburn or insect bites is useful and is much more expensive to buy in Sousa than in dollar store or Walmart.
Really just bring the same stuff you would for a weekend at the beach in the US.

I see guys at Cafes, and hotel pools with their laptops. Guys never have problems but you never know who is watching.

Thanks[/QUOTE]Just about always last minute prices are high for airplane tickets. Book midweek, like on a Tuesday and sometimes the prices are lower. Jetblue currently has the most flights into DR.
Bring insect repellant, sunscreen if the sun burns your skin, immodium for diarrhea. Bring your own condoms. Hershey chocolates are good to have in the room to feed the chicas. This past trip I had terrible heartburn after using LaPela (generic cialis) , not sure if the LaPela caused the hearturn, but I wish I had some Prilosec (over the counter medicine for heart burn). I usually buy the name brand Cialis (by Lilly) , but the pharmacy in santo domingo wanted me to buy a 4 pack, which I didn't want. So I bought 4 LaPela for 200 pesos (50 pesos each). I think in the future I will stick with the name brand Cialis. The heartburn (acid reflux) I had after using the LaPela, woke me up at night, I don't want that again.
There are online sites that track airplane rates and give predictions as to whether they believe the prices will go up or down. During major holidays the rates are higher. Before winter high season, in the Fall, rates are usually less.

I thought it was food or drinks but I had the same heartburn you described and it was terrible. I was thinking on visiting a doctor in Puerto Rico but the heartburn dissapeared.

Maybe lapela has an effect on the opening of the esophagus into the stomach, causing that opening to open more and allowing acid from the stomach to enter the esophagus (acid reflux, heartburn).
I agree with you, I have not had the acid reflux reaction when I took Cialis made by Lilly.
