Hi Guys,

Just a friendly warning about arriving in Rio. Customs are now very diligently scanning all incoming suitcases and both a friend and I have recently had to pay fines, or taxes, on electronics we had in our suitcases. In both cases it was cellphones that we still in the box which we were bringing as gifts for someone special.

My lawyer sent me a replacement iphone marked as return to owner via DHL.

Mark as such in your bags.

But in 30 years they only stopped me once asking what I had in my bags (I told them and that was good enough). There were two customs guys when I arrived who was just "eying" the passengers. I probably looks honest and innocent.

I think 500 bucks is the limit you can bring in as a gift. How much was the fine / tax?

Observation. In all my years visiting the Cidade Maravilhosa, I have always encountered the stench of piss and crap around various locations throughout the city. However, this has been the worst ever for me. From Copa to No Centro, it is multiple times worse than before. I am used to it from previous visits, but I have noticed it is worse this time around. I am assuming the correlation between the local economy struggling, and its growing numbers of homeless people. There have always been homeless people in various parts of town. During this past year, not only have I seen a drastic increase in numbers, but sadly many with children. The stench on the streets might just be good measuring stick as to how the economy is going. Obviously I am half kidding and half serious. For what its worth, when I do smell people burning weed around town, man, it sure smells good.

The last time I was there, I found it to be quite offensive to my olfactory. So much so, that I decided that I was done staying in Copa. Been there enough times. As a seasoned Rio monger, time to move on. If things smell even worse now, then I can't even imagine how bad the economy must stink LOL!

The selection at 116 always includes a few porn star quality morenas, and in the times I have been there with ISGers like TrueBlue even a loira (blonde) with blue eyes, big tits, who met with approval.

As far as safety, it is safe. It is across the street from the Rio DMV (Detran), and it is well patrolled by cops. The perception when you leave 4 x4 late at night is anything further than your uber pick up is going into the combat zone, but the reality is that it is just street people. Go in pairs, remember the number for the local cops (190, the dispatcher will speak english), be ready to order an uber if things go south, keep observation of each other and film anything that happens. But in reality, it is safe.

116 is an easy walk from centro termas like darkroom. So you go to centro termas and I like darkroom best (because it has a open air bar on the 20th floor, because it has the best selection of new girls, like the current blond maya, but also the best mulatas and morenas).

Personally, I like the minimalist room situation at 116, but then I lived out of a pack for months at a time.
