In Colombia at least, restaurants will either ask if they should include service with the bill total or they will include service and advise clients that it is optional. That brings it back to the original point that guys who can't read the bill or the notification won't know they are paying service on top of service.

I was in East Germany many years ago, in the old Commie days, and left a tip on the table. While I was paying the bill at the counter some guy walked in off the street and took the money and walked out. So when you get the bill, it is added, you don't need to add another on top.

I really wish the US would import some of the rest of the world's tipping culture. I personally tip 15% when in the US on the tax-excluded total 9 out of 10 times. I don't not tip for bad service, simply because I don't want a waiter to go home with less just because he / she had a bad day. With exceptional service, I will tip 20%. So I guess in actuality, I only ever tip 5%? I don't know. My big gripe is that I like to know what the cost of my meal is before I eat it. I don't want some sort of vague price of at least X, but feel free to give us more! What if I said, I'm willing to pay up to X, but feel free to charge me less? Why is that not acceptable? Why is your job worthy of a tip and mine not? My job probably effects more people daily than a waiters, but because I'm not as social and you don't have to look me in the eye, I don't deserve a tip? I thought we all work because we get a salary, or paid for our services, not because we can whine our way into extra money. Anyways, hating the US tipping culture. Hope it stays there or better yet dies there.

I am all for following local customs, and I doubt very much that colombianos are tipping 20 k in a 30 k casa. When I was in Argentina, I never tipped in the privados or in the clubs, and I was still quite popular. My regular chicas who came to my house knew what they were getting, and knew better than to ask for more, or for taxi money. I kept my eye on inflation and gave them regular raises such that the amount of money I gave them maintained its purchasing power.

Personally, liked more the girls at gusto, even though some girls at Fase II may have better body.
