However, I've learned street smarts and I apply caution when traveling. Which Is why I'm asking these questions. I appreciate you answering my questions it will help me a lot. I will visit the casas. Perfect advice on all counts. The only thing I disagree with is the suggestion you might be inexperienced, it really doesn't seem like it. From Centro it's easy to find taxis on Oriental or at Plaza Botero.

I would give the cabbie the address and cab right to the 1st one. If the neighborhood looks OK walk to the next one if it is close but cabs are cheap. During the day those areas are generally ok.

2. Is it safe to take a streetwalker to a short time room?

Yes, have done so on multiple occasions. You will be safer off the street with her then wandering around on the street.

3. Is it safe to spend a few hours in a casa for multiple sessions?

Most Casa's have no where to hang out but a few do have a bar or couch to hang out and have a beer like Yakusa and I think Zandaly.

4. When leaving casa's do you call taxi or are there taxis parked out waiting?

Might have to walk a block or 2 to a major road to get a cab, probably faster then having them call you one.

5. What time is the latest I can safely stay in the Centro.

After sundown it starts to get sketchier. You can stay in the strip clubs till they close if you want and cab between them although Barra Ejectiva and Maracaibo are about 50 ft apart and Conejitas is about 2 & 1/2 blocks from those 2 but the block around Conejitas get scarier the later it gets.

Another late night option where you can hang out for multiple sessions and where they will call taxis for you, and where most taxis won't need an address or directions: Luna Lunera.

I also like Belen, but have not investigated it much. So far the place I see myself spending 1+ months in is La Floresta. Reasonably safe neighborhood with excellent access to the Metro. I just do not know if I can find an apartment without a fiador. Since I have no intentions of living there year-around, I need a furnished place that is turn-key with all the utilities, cable tv and internet. Unfortunately, most of these are located in the higher strata areas with those type of neighbors that do not appreciate our lifestyle. I am not so sure that it is the partying that gets the neighbors angry, other than weeknights, because Colombians know how to party hard. I think it is more about the rotating door of girls in and out of the building all hours of the day and night that they do not appreciate. From my understanding, a large majority of the Blux units are owned by foreigners, who purchased as rental properties. This ownership percentage does not allow the building to craft all encompassing rules that deny short-term guests in all units. But I have noticed more and more Blux units renting with terms that do not cater to our lifestyle just like bars and resturantes en Lleras have adopted. Perhaps these are the ones where the owners have asked security to ensure those rules are followed?

Now that I am retired, I am hopeful to be able to spend a month or more each time I visit, so that will require me to pursue lower cost alternatives. I am less interested in new girls, generally sticking with a tried and true stable of amigas that never cease to show me a good time. Plus at my age, a 3 per day chica diet is no longer affordable, nor do I have the energy for more than a couple per week. LOL.

I am going to Medellin in March for a few days.

A fiador is only needed for a long term lease and typically only for unfurnished apartments.

If you get off the metro at Estadio and walk south on 70 there are a couple of agencies that rent furnished apartments. One on each side, just a few blocks south of the station. Don't know what they have to offer.

The problems are as much to do with the short term rentals as with the prepagos, especially the places that cater to gringos. Too many of them lack volume control or a filter or any respect for the people around them. They're in Medellin to party and they don't give a damn what anyone else thinks about them.

If all of them learned basic social behavior, there wouldn't be problems. Greet the neighbors, smile exchange a few kind words and they'll stop cringing every time they see a gringo.

Does anyone know if this place is girl friendly arrive next week and do not want to pay extra room charges.

I arrived in Medellin on April 2 and left April 7th. I was just here on March 5th and decided to purchase an apartment here, so I did. I bought an apartment in Barrio Boyaca and I decided to return to Medellin every 4 weeks for 5 days. I found a girlfriend over there so everything works out fine. I send her a nice stipend biweekly and the bills are paid and the Apartment is well maintained. On day 5 I decided to relax a little and spend as much time with my girl as possible as well as her immediate family her mom dad brother and little sister. So I stayed at my apartment with the family and had family time like any old family guy would do. I love Colombia, Yes I do, my girl has no kids, and allows me to do as I please as long as I pay the bills. Here's my resolve to paying the bills, I paid so much money for child support when I was paying child support, that I can actually maintain a complete apartment buy groceries and pay someone to assist with keeping the property cleaned an maintained for less than what the child support people were draining me for. I actually told my girl she doesn't have to work and we worked out a plan to pay for her college and keep her in school and off a job as long as we are in a serious relationship. I love this board and Wolf for encouraging me to visit medellin. I have already purchased my ticket for return at the end of the month. Who ever knew a little currency could do so much.
