Sounds like all women...hahaha.
Remember this qoute from "As good as it gets"
Receptionist: How do you write women so well?
Melvin Udall (Jack Nicholson): I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability.
Thanks for the recommendation Maple.
My favorite eats at my other mongering sites
Macau - Copa Steakhouse at the Sands (imo Mortons at Venetian did not quite cut it)
Phuket - La Boucherie (amazing Chateaubriand from Argentina)

I have been married to a Filipino for 15 yrs, and have been visiting the islands since 1991. Here are some of my observations:
Some Filipinos are very intimidated and shy when it comes to contact with westerners. Rather than give a wrong answer they will ignore you. I have actually had some give me the wrong information, not out of meanness, they just wanted to please.
I cannot speak to "hard looks." However, I can tell you that in most provinces (not Muslim dominated south) westerners are met with smiles galore.
The bank account is easy, the lower level employees are terrified of making a mistake. I have a bank account in one of the provinces. When I arrive I never wait in a teller line, one of the clericals at the desk come to greet me.
Avoid loaning money, they have a story for every occasion. Ironically, it is usually the ones who have gotten use to better that want to borrow money. The poor people in the provinces are just the opposite, they will share their last bowl of rice with you.
The bar girl was simply trying to work a situation at both ends, collect the money and make some more. She got use to better.
I have been in AC for one month already on my second trip; I visited once before in Sept 2007. I would like to share my thoughts as a young Black male who does not frequent the bars too much.
Overall people are friendly, but:
Filipinos have such odd behaviour sometimes. You ask them a simple question like "where is such and such a place?” they stare off in outer space and look clueless.
I have been in other situations where businesses that cater to locals mainly let on that they have no time to provide me service, WTF? I will ask a question and the clerk/cashier will just go off and do something else like I do not exist. I have this experience like almost every day. I also get hard looks from some locals.
I was told by one travel agent that I was wasting her time by asking a few questions about visa costs (over two occasions). She lost at least a few hundred dollars in business with those words.
I tried to open a bank account at the Bank of the Philippines Islands near the NEPO mall -- The clerks got all strange and funny acting! I went there twice -- the second time the clerk look so afraid. I did manage to open an account at the Banc de Oro -- I had a talk with the manager and had no problems.
Filipino "friends" have already started asking me for loans. A friend who operates a laundry service was giving a disconnection notice for an unpaid electric bill, she did not have enough money, she was 1500 pesos short (she owed 10000 pesos). She showed me the electric bill and the disconnection notice. I have not been repaid, despite her promises to do so. No more loans from me.
In my previous postings, I already mentioned about the bar girl who I offered to support financially (10, 000 pesos per month) if she left the bar. She pulled a vanishing act and later turned up still working in the bar. WTF? Keep in mind, she has a daughter and an aging mother to support.
I have traveled a lot in my life, but I have never seen such strange people BEFORE. I always thought that Mainland Chinese people were strange, but Filipinos are even more weird! They speak english, but seem really lost. Logic and common sense are seriously lacking here.
learning curves
To Ace of Spades,
My dear Ace, welcome to Asia and to the life the working girls of the third world. When these girls turn to selling there pussy for money do you think they would just stop for the 10, 000 pesos you offer when they can keep working, make another 10, 000 and keep your s as well. They’ve already sold their "souls" (so to speak) for the money so why wouldn’t they maximize there earning potential. Sounds like good business to me. Hey I wonder if any of them might have more than one boyfriend? Naaa I know she only loves me. Well that’s what I tell myself.
As for asking question and getting blank stairs well that’s possibly a combination two things.
1/ (presuming you’re an American) The difficulty of picking up on the American accent (believe me or not/& no offence intended). &
2/ Rules 1 and 2 of the Philippino customer service manual that I believe state. 1/ One should only assist the customer in the act of parting them from their money. &
2/A service attendant should do as little as possible as often as possible and assist in the least possible way while at all times not expending any more mental energy than what is required to remain in a semi conscious state.
If you just remember that we’re not customers. We’re ATM’s, once you learn that it all begins to fit into place.
# (All apologies extended, to the small percentage of Philipinos who are not lazy, un educated and chronically brain dead. They do exist as I have met a few. All power to them.
Below is a picture of a bar girl on my bed about to blow me with those all day sucker lips. She’s on the phone to her Norwegian boyfriend asking for more money and telling him she doesn’t do that kinda work any more. Well I have news for him, she was kinda right, it wasn’t work, it was all fun

When I was in AC my barfine and me went to the Disco. There were two girls she knew. She told me they used to work in her bar but now they are barfined permanently by some Japanese men.
We all danced together. Later two korean men came and sat near us. Some smiles and sure enough the girls went and sat with them. Later I heard the men paid them 3000 pesos each of them for the night.
Do not be under the illusion that you will make a GF from the bar unless you live with her. Any chance she gets she will use it to make money.
I am looking for the best, easiest place to monger.
If you go to some of the places that other members have mentioned, you are pretty much guaranteed to get laid...for money of course.
La cafe is a lot of fun for me. I like it when girls try to pick me up, or I really love it when girls compete for me. Or I dance with a half dozen girls and have them all wondering if I will pick them.
Makati has a lot of action, but too expensive and pushy for me; money goes fast!!! I saved some money by having the girls come to my hotel after their club closed.
Angeles has an abundance of girls for a good price. If you can't get laid in AC, you will not get laid anywhere. There are many choices, and it's pretty cheap. There isn't much else to do in AC though.
I have never been to the Edsa area. I'll have to give it a look in a couple weeks.
I have never been to Cebu either, but I'll be checking that out in a few weeks too.
Another very popular place for choices and ease of getting laid, is in Pattaya, Thailand. Round trip airfare from Manila to Bangkok isn't too bad.

NEVER 'lend' money in Philippines. A LOAN translates into GIFT. I have seen Filipino lenders lend to farmers and collect their money back by standing by the farmer in the field at harvest and requiring the required rice gets put into the sacks they are holding. I don't think you want to get into that action just to get your money back!
NEVER 'lend' money in Philippines.
Very good basic advice.
But if you must:
1) Get some kind of collateral and make you sure you really control it physically.
2) Try to make it cheaper/easier to repay you than to have you killed.
3) Charge some reasonable interest. A non-secured loan can run up to 10% PER MONTH in the PI, even more if they use 5/6 or Bombay 5/6 (Indian lenders)

I am brother such as you late 20s. I live in Metro Manila about 30 mins from Makati
Being black in the Philippines has its up and downs.
I had a lady at beauty salon ask my girlfriend where I am from because I am not that black. My ole lady told her US then she goes yeah some black guys are so black they look scary. I had a bargirl in (Cebu) back in May ask why my skin is so black. At 20 years old she had no knowledge of genetics and heritage. I had a taxi driver say am Negro when I responded with “What the fuck you say!” he didn’t repeat. It’s hard putting up with such ignorance. I have lived in Japan, and spent a lot of time in Thailand. I do believe Asia is for white guys in general. I been coming here (PI) since 04. I am new to the p4p in PI though as I always had steady Filipina girlfriends during that period. Now I am in a LTR so I just stick to the bars for fun.
My first trip to Angeles was back in January. I had some girls refuse to go with me. I am young looking in excellent shape and I have a pocket full of pesos and look like it. So was their decision not to go based on me being of the dark variety if was a betting man I would say yeah. All in all I still had fun. For everyone that didn’t want to go their were 10 that was dying to. I will be back in Angeles in October if I don’t give Indonesia a try or hell I might hit both :)
Don't give Filipinos money Ace. Nothing good will come out of it. They will only see you as stupid and gullible trust me learned from experience. The request will not stop. Their requests will become like a terminator (see the description of the Cyborg from the motion picture). Unrelenting, it knows no compassion no remorse.
Doing legit business with Filipinos and being black they will look down to you. Don’t matter if your American doesn’t matter if you in the 6 figure income bracket such as myself they will look down to you simply because of your skin. Anyway those are my experiences.
Take It Sleazy But Not Like Marv Albert :)
I only found this site recently, so I can't confirm the quality.
http://wikitravel.org/en/Angeles
A fairly hit-or-miss list of restaurants, imho. The Filipino recommendations are all good, as you'd expect. (Though they missed a couple excellent ones, like Gerry's Grill in the mall.) Of the international ones, I'd vouch for C', Maranao Grill, Cottage Kitchen, Red Crab, and Bretto's. And add Swiss Chalet and Red Sea, and any number of Korean places, starting with Maharaja.
Once and for all, there is NO shortage of good food in AC. You just need to get off the main tourist drag and go looking for it.

simply bad luck

Brother, that's indeed quite unusual! Be assured that you had simply bad luck! However, take it easy: for the one who refused you ten others would have been more than happy to go with you!
Cheers!

I have to agree with you, as a general rule Filipinos and Filipinas will look down on you if you are dark.
They consider dark being a bad thing, you only have to look at skin care products advertised on their tv. They all have "Extra Whitening Power" I always thought that was good for washing clothing but who knew it was a good line for skin care.
My Long Time Girfriend is on the darker side for a filipina and hates her colour. SHe is happy that we will have children one day because she hopes they will be much lighter than her.
I have never told her that I prefer dark chocolate over white anytime LOL.
ANyway thats my 2 cents!!!

My reply
Thanks for the replies.
I admit the 1500 pesos "loan" was a mistake -- but I did it to help a friend in need who rents space for her laundry service. She would have had to pay an extra 5000 pesos on top of her electrical bill to have the power turned back on. I saved her business and also the jobs of the people who work for her.
I have decided to leave bar girls in the bar where they belong.
As for racism/colorism issues:
I have been travelling for a long time in many countries (10 years -- 3RD time in the Philippines), I have been to 8 countries so far, so I am very much well aware of the challenges that Black people face Most of my problems so far in Angeles City were likely a combination of the above and also cultural differences/miscommunication.
Regardless of what Filipinos think of me or my color, they hold no power over me in their country. I just came here to get laid cheaply. Maybe it does not get any better than this!
To the "brother" in his early 20s or others in town:
PM send me your details and any others.
I would like to hear about your business activities.

Indian Lenders
Can someone tell me more about the Bombay 5/6 (Indian lenders) ?
Can someone tell me more about the Bombay 5/6 (Indian lenders) ?
Basically, you barrow 5 and pay back 6 or 20%. They're basically Indian loan sharks who'll try to do their best to get more than the 20% promised. These guys will often go to your place of business to collect daily. There is a long history of negative connotations with the term. Parents telling their kids to behave will say things like “I will give you away to a Bombay 5-6 if you don't behave!” Sounds like a Filipino boogeyman. It's mostly micro-loans but there are bigger loans available. Personally, I see it as a mob-loan.

Money lenders
I have seen Indian or South Asian people along Fields driving Motorcycles and also in other parts of the town. These guys do not look like bar men. Chances are these guys are money lenders or here other for other businesses.
I wonder if these guys are actually making any money? The return looks big in thought (20%), but this amounts to exploiting the locals, not a good way to make friends. Violence from locals, especially gangs, must be a big problem if these lenders become too demanding.
