In recognition of his many great contributions to the Forum, I have given Quincas his own thread titled "[b]Quincas in Brazil[/b]".

Isn't life grand! Next thing you know some guy is going to pretend that his kid went off in a weather balloon in hopes of getting his own reality TV show. A Macunaima by any other name, is just as boring.

And I dress way down and never walk the streets around Help late night. I have been approached by some unruly homeless guys near my apartment in nice areas. They took their begging to a new level where they kept following and started yelling - in English phrases. I keep walking and ignore them and they stop. Once I had to quickly stop and shout fuck off in Porto and the guy threathened to pull something from his pocket. I took a quick step at him and he took off.

But carrying around large sums of $- IMO - is stupid. If the kids and homeless are getting that agressive with me in nicer areas, I can envision a situation where you can get a snatch and grab and better to lose R$20 than R$2000.

His last post as Mac was in 05/03/06. The Quincas thread is a continuation of the Macunaima thread. But the short answer is: Mac/Quin is a non mongering academic, supposedly doing research on US here. His post do nothing in Helping you find women in Brazil. He likes to dominate and derail threads by goading others to respond to him. It's good for his ego, IMHO. LOL (Go look at Both threads and you'll understand.)

BTW, in the novel, Quincas becomes the "vagabond king of the honky-tonks" and "patriarch of the prostitutes."

Imo.

He's making a legitimate point. While I don't drop as much cash as this guy, a session in a therma like l'Uomo could set me back R$500, so I often carry R$1000, just to have that flexibility. Is there a safe way to do it? I got a cool money belt with a zipper down the middle, but it really seems best for a couple hundred of emergency money. I often put a couple of hundred in one pocket and a larger amount in another, but any competent mugger will insist on going through all your pockets.
