When I was there last (admittedly a while now) all taxis were gone, the line was a mile long and I had to walk to the Sportsmans to get them to call me a taxi. Not the end of the world but you wouldn't want to have a arm full of shopping.

Just be careful not to go in the first week of October, Ramadan will end on Sept. 30, usually the whole week is dead. Happened to me in 2006. Stayed in Jakarta for a few days during this period and all Hotel bars were closed. Very dry season.

Hi JAD. No I am not going to argue with you on this. I've learnt enough from my experiences. What I was trying to say that there are a lot of P4P hanging around AFF masquerading as women who do it for love and passion and hide the commercial nature of their work by asking for taxi money. As John pointed out to me , taxi money is a veiled way of asking to be paid for their services. I realize that it is better to go to a bordello and get you kicks rather than going through this long exchange for e-mails with some women who has posted and earlier( and flattering) photo of herself for an encounter that leaves you disappointed.

No, I do not think I'm competitive. As a non-bule reaching 60 I have no such illusions, so I know its P4P girls for me.

My latest plans will have me there the last few days of August.... I'm travelling in Asia for the whole month of August; so far I have the first half of the month in the Philippines then going to Thailand. I want to make a trip to Cambodia again, back to Thailand, then take 3 or 4 days to Jakarta.

Are you sure about that date? As I understood it they're never certain about Idul Fitri until a week or so before the event. I'm not nitpicking it's just that I have an important event lined up for the 27th and I'm still not sure whether I will be able to make it or not if it is Idul Fitri.

There is certainty to within a day or so. It just moves around the calendar every year. This year Ramadhan looks like it coincides with September. Idul Fitri or Lebaran will in all likelihood be 1st October.

Thanks for the heads up... I might be better off waiting until my next vacation... I might not get too bored if I stay in Pattaya instead.

It's not that there's no action during Ramadhan but the bars outside of hotels will close down. There are still a lot of girls who need and will be looking for some company. It will just be a bit less obvious. The hotel bars will be open except for a few days at the start middle and end of the month. In the last few days, the girls will become more scarce as those from out of town, will go back to visit their families.
