No problem and no traffic, quick trip. What's your concern? That the taxi driver will not come to pick up you? Just booking the taxi through your hotel or in some reliable agency.

My flight usually departs at 06:45, so I book a taxi through my hotel for 03:00, which gets me to the airport 2 hours before departure, as recommended by the airlines for international flights. I do book it through the hotel rather than a taxi service so that I can hold the hotel responsible if an issue arises. They charge me 1200 THB, and the driver always picks me up on time in a spotless car and doesn't drive like he's in the Monaco Grand Prix. I usually fall asleep in the back seat.

The ride at that time is pretty much seamless. Light traffic on the highway and at the airport. And I get to enjoy another late night in Pattaya.

They want your money just as much as you want to get to the airport. Just go to any taxi booth the afternoon before. The price is 1000 baht. I always leave 3 hours before the flight and do web check in.

It seemed like the driver kept nodding off at times, but didn't completely fall asleep at the wheel.

I have always remembered that experience, so now I regard that as a risk factor to consider when arranging travel times. Personally I would avoid travel between midnight and 6 am, as that is probably when most drivers would normally be sleeping.

I usually always spend the night in BKK if I have a morning flight. Getting an extra hour sleep is crucial for me before an 18-20 hour flight. It's not the worst thing to have to spend a night in Bangkok.

If I do take a taxi in the middle of the night it's with a trusted driver in a newer model vehicle.

I understand about leaving everything last minute with an early morning flight. I live about 3. 5 hours from Sydney airport and I always stay in Sydney overnight before I fly.

I think if my flight was at 7 am I would be staying in bkk.

I usually do the same regardless of who is paying for a long haul international flight. In some cities, whereby the airport can be over an hour away and you never know about the weather or traffic, it is just less stressful to stay at an airport hotel with a shuttle. I know road warriors who consistently show up an hour or whatever is the minimum before departure. But I am getting too old for that type of stress and running and rushing. If I am too early, I just sit in a lounge and do Internet stuff.

One solution would be to have the driver sit down first and take a Modafinil (Provigil) tablet. Half and hour later he would be ripe to drive you. What with the drug scare he would refuse the tablet most probably.

Joking aside I've had drivers ("meter" taxis) literally texting while driving from Pattaya to Suvarnabumi. I now try to book Nam's Taxi Service. Women drivers are better in such a case.

I once tried to jot down an ID number of a texting driver in order to complain but all I could write down was a number that lead to nowhere upon subsequent search. Those guys are untraceable.

Some info may be a little down to earth but it is for the curious, for comparison and for those who need to provide a budget holiday LOL.

My last stay in Pattaya and Bangkok was from June 5th to June 13th. I spent 6 days in Pattaya and 3 days in Bangkok. The last 3 days in Bangkok I was with a VLT but I still made some visits to Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy and the last day in Sukhumvit 22 massage parlors.

In total I spent 1400 for girls and 150 for drinks during visits to the gogos. I averaged 3 girls a day. Or averaged also 51 per meeting (about 2000 B). On it I am a little cushioned on the end with my VLT but not much because she ate like 4 and he had to pay a swimsuit for the pool she had forgotten his, his transport, visits etc. .

I did not take any girls on the beach road or in a gogo of WS I only paid lady drinks on the spot. I only went to massage parlors and pipe bar. My favorite gogos were Palace, Windmill, Sapphyr, Farenheit and What's up. The girls were between 20 and 30 years old never again.

There is a very high turnover in bars, gogos, massage parlors and others. Girls change their workplace, city or country and there are many reasons for that. In 3-4 months we can not recognize either the atmosphere or the girls. Quality levels can fluctuate from one extreme to another.

That's why you have to move, always change. Personally I went in a lot of countries and Pattaya remains a unique destination in the world. That said, I, too, have from time to time some disappointments, some empty passages and I sometimes pester against Pattaya.

And I'm not a follower of nightclubs they have always fed me even young, in general I do not like music like fun radio is an absolute cheesy (I will not make me friends only this time there) it is too strong and it's complicated to understand, I arrive in shorts / flip flops so not at all in the mood and I do not want to make efforts, it ends too late at 1 o'clock in the morning I sleep, it's expensive, I find the girls rather nondescript and the ones I like look at me with contempt from top to bottom (and I give them back), etc etc.

In these cases I turn, I go to Phuket, Bangkok, Hong Kong or the Philippines who have excellent spots too. The examples of Marrakesh and Havana also come to mind, playing cat and mouse with the local cops it's funny 5 minutes but it ends up taking me the cabbage anyway. So after a little tour to change my ideas I like to come back to Pattaya.

There are always pretty cannons in their twenties. As for tariffs, I come to Thailand for about 10 years I find that apart from some gogos of WS that have actually exorbitant prices, they have not increased that much and even that it can fluctuate depending on the head of the customer. Sure if you take a shot of 10 or 20 years old the rates are higher now LOL.
