Be careful. The final cost might be a lot more than the negotiated agreement!
Who spend US$750 plus to get to BKK and then begrudge US$ 15 max on a taxi downtown.
Probably someone who does not like to be ripped off. I wouldn't mind paying $15 for a taxi somewhere that it costs to take a taxi for $15, but I have a serious problem paying $15 for a taxi somewhere that it costs $7 to take a taxi.
Who spend US$750 plus to get to BKK and then begrudge US$ 15 max on a taxi downtown.
Some one like me who flies in from Phnom Penh for $50, but thankfully Air Asia is flying into Don Muang now. So you can still walk out of customs turn left and walk to the end of the Terminal. Then go upstairs to departures and catch a cab for less than 300 Baht to Nana.
Not that I stay there, but in the area, but you do have a point, because that 500 Baht I saved will soon be wasted on some lady drinks that night getting on the good side of mamason to ensure I have her latest or best model available.
Cheers,
GM
PS see you soon.

I don't remember what they wanted, but I remember it pissing me off. I ended up meeting up with a guy in the airport and we split a private cab to Pattaya that was only 1200 Baht. (600 each)
Pattaya or Bangkok it's all the same to me unless I have plans in Bangkok, but it's a shorter trip to Pattaya from Suvarnabhumi, than Don Muang.
Now that Air Asia is flying into Don Muang I'm seeing more of Bangkok lately.
Cheers,
GM

Excluding tolls I have only paid more than Baht 350. 400, once and that because of a massive traffic jam. The lowest price at 0600 on a Sunday morning was Baht 250 so I don't think you are being ripped off in the least. And quibbling about $7-8 over the cheapest rate is nonsense compared to the inconvenience of public transport.
I must admit if you enter Thailand with the feeling that you are being ripped off the moment you leave the Airport does not auger well for a happy trip when you meet up with the rip off of bar fines and lady drinks at Baht 200 plus.
I arrived yesterday at Suvarnabhumi, I have always been to the departure level to catch a taxi. Not really to save 50THB, but mostly to get a taxi right away and not wait in line at the basement level taxi line.
Yesterday, they had put in place one way gates to prevent people like me to reach the taxi, to be sure nobody would jump the small gate they also have put gate attendants. Luckily there wasn't a long line at the regular taxi line downstairs but be warned.
Written Thailand but spelt Singapore. Where we'll end!?!
Who spend US$750 plus to get to BKK and then begrudge US$ 15 max on a taxi downtown.
It's not just the money-in the day the rail link is much faster-you can get stuck in traffic forever.
At night the taxi is a viable option. I took a meter guy upstairs last time and paid under 200 to Soi Cowboy.

Now you are comparing apples to oranges. I'm not saying that I have problems. I make the taxi run the meter and know the general cost of where I am going. I don't pay bar fines and I don't buy lady drinks. I live in Pattaya and I speak a bit of Thai. From my experience, once the girls and taxi drivers and police and anybody else know that you live here and not just visiting then it is a totally different ballgame. Once I start speaking in Thai and whip out my Thai driver's license then it is like,"Oh shit. Sorry for trying to rip you off." Lady drink? I'm not into wining and dining hookers (I save that for regular women.) Bar fine? Wrong answer. You call me after you get off work for 1000 baht LT.

I merely suggested that based on the meter cars it was stupid not too use a taxi at the end of a long flight. Yes taxis / public transport are apples and oranges and I prefer my taxi apples to public transport oranges.
I am not going to pursue bar fines, lady drinks. That is not the issue.

http://www.pattayadailynews.com/en/2013/10/31/fda-warns-passengers-from-a-new-taxi-scam/
As most Thai newslines, this one is sadly ridiculous, as that's not a scam, if true that's kidnapping, armed robbery and bodily harm. Got to love the final part part of the article:
"FDA officials suggested that if you suddenly feel nauseous while using the services of a taxi cab, you should roll down the taxi's windows."
And it ends there. And then what, pay and be proud you didn't fell for it?

As someone eloquently said on the CM board:
You are just an irritating flaming troll, rude and obnoxious, who lacks the intellect to make any informative comments or reports, but instead has to respond with insults and personal attacks in order to compensate for your lack of ability to give any constructive reports of your own.
BTW, I've neither ever paid a barfine or LD. I've found that in doing so I became a better monger with a fatter wallet.
I find it amusing that some out there still can't tell the difference between working girls and non working girls. To be sure some working girls are well skilled in the art of seduction where the innocent punter feels he is the man of her dreams. So a few simple pointers.
Consider the circumstances in which you met. If it was anywhere in the P4P loop between Nana car park and the high end clubs she's working.
If she doesn't ask for money but suggests shopping she's working. If there is a mention of illness, out of order or missing I Phones, family issues requiring financial assistance or any other sad circumstance she is working.
If in doubt before she leaves the love nest try asking for her number and tell her you will call. If she smiles and says oh please do, well who knows you may have met the woman of your dreams and she the man of her dreams.
Bottom line if she is street smart, knows you are around for a while, feels you are naïve, she will forego her short time fee for longer time gains. Do not mistake this for a fondness for you. That said the exception proves the rule.

Actually I find the odd lady drink is a good way of assessing the talent before possibly paying a starfish. No doubt the absence of paying for lady drinks contributes to the fact that there are claims that there is no pussy in CM.
As to bar fines. I just factor then into the cost of doing business since a fatter wallet often means limited activity. Not my life style.
We all have different ways of operating; I tolerate others even tho' I may disagree.

http://www.pattayadailynews.com/en/2013/10/31/fda-warns-passengers-from-a-new-taxi-scam/
How in the hell did the FDA get involved? The agency responsible for making sure the foods and drugs Americans consume is safe is now issuing warnings against foreign taxi ripoffs? Isn't this the purview of the State Department?
But I digress. If the drivers puts this mystery substance into the A / C system in order to incapacitate the passengers, why doesn't it also incapacitate the driver? Secret hidden nostril filters? Shades of Get Smart! This whole thing sounds a lot like the drug-laced nipple urban legend.
What utter bullshit.

I've taken taxis from Swampy to lower Suk, and back, many, many times. The rates have all fallen within his range, depending on traffic. Snagging a taxi at the departure level doesn't save a substantial amount and is, in fact, unfair to the other drivers who play by the rules and queue up.
There are cheaper alternatives, certainly, but the taxis at the airport are hardly a ripoff. I guess nobody's taken a taxi in Phuket before?
