Mr. E, how would you feel if some idiot takes your words literally and dives without precautions in that environment?
My words were literal, but I never said to walk around with your head in the clouds. I would advise someone to be vigilant even if walking through Beverly Hills.
Thought I would give back after all the info given to me. I stayed in Poblado. My first casa was Loutron. Complete bust I though. Not worth the long taxi ride out there for 300 k. Only saw one girl worth doing but ended up leaving. Went to energy next and every girl was hideous. Got out of there quick. Went home and at night did the tour of strip clubs: la Isla fase dos Luna Lunera and San Diego. Fase dos had the most energy la Isla was boring and stuck up. The other we're worth it on the weekend but dead weekday.
I then went on a tour to see if Centro is as bad as they say at night. Tijuana was Malibu compared to Centro. Taxi drove me by Mayorista and the executive strip club on Friday night. We drove around 5 or 6 streets and I was done. No way I'm walking around that area at night. We then went to Parque Lleras. By this time it was 4 am and there are many working girls to choose from and much safer area. Bite the bullet and spend the 150 k to get a girl at this park. For those asking how you know who are prostitutes and who are regular girls. It's very easy. No worries on that. They will smile at you give you looks and even wave at you.
Bottom line is if you can't afford 150 k at night for a girl and think that's expensive you should quit mongering. The mayorista ejecutive area in the daytime I'm assuming is fairly safe but I didn't go. Stick to the Centro casas in the day and strip clubs at night and then finish off the night at Parque Lleras if your still horny. Loutron and energy were overrated IMHO.
I think right now we hit a slow week between the holiday last week and finals for school coming up, these chicks are resting up.
Soon enough girls will be back at it again I'm sure.

Same experience.
This was my exact experience when I was direct with my questions to unit owners. Some were direct with no ambiguity, while others were more vague...a lack of tolerance toward them is a trend that I had not experienced in my 6+ years of staying there...more owners explicitly state that kind of activity is not welcome. Seems to mirror the tolerance seen all over Poblado, especially in Parque Lleras. So is this a real change from the past?...
I have been staying at Blux as well every time I was in Medellin, for the past 3 years. I also noticed the trend, trying to discourage sex tourism, via various posters. I was just there recently, and they had a poster warning about sex tourism, on the unit refrigerator, can't miss it.
Many girls have told me that full time residents do not like that activity at all, and are trying to get rid of it. They have a lady door guard there now, who appears mean and give girls a hard time, but the others are nice. I was wondering whether that was another tactic employed by management to discourage unwanted visitors.

The Mansion
Hi guys,
About to take my first trip to Medellíand. Still working my way through the last 100 pages of posts, so apologies if this has been answered already.
Can people go to the Mansion as guests that aren't paying to stay there? Is there a cost to get in? Is there a bar just to go and hang? I saw there is M1 and M2, are they 2 very separate buildings?
Do you have to pay a fee to use a room there with a chica or do you then have to take her to your apartment, etc?
Thanks.
1 SB.

But if you do then you will have to pay a fee. Don't know how you could use an extra room since the place is always booked up. Why even go to the mansion? It is just a hotel with a few chicks hanging around. There are plenty of casas and strip clubs to go to with tons of cheaper chicks hanging around.
170K for a room + 200K for a chick at the mansion = 371K. Downtown casa = 35K. Strip club = 80K. Hmmmm.

Obviously I will be using all of the other methods you've mentioned to meet the chicks, I was intrigued by the concept but prefer to stay at an AirBnb in Poblado.

I couldn't guess whether I'm especially lucky, careful, or don't look gringo enough. I haven't had problems going back years. I've seen many robberies and robbery attempts. Most of them of course involved Colombian victims and perpetrators because most of the people. Especially in Centro. Are Colombian. I don't take safety for granted. I keep my eyes open and I don't tempt fate by displaying valuables or hanging around isolated areas after dark and alone. It's foolish to expect complete safety in a marginal neighborhood like Centro. I don't want to see anyone get jacked but I also don't want to scare anyone from visiting.
I must have been doing it wrong. From late October 2017 to the end of March, I made between 60 and 100 trips to El Centro. I never took a taxi, mostly relying on the Metro, with an occasional bus ride. Twice I walked there from Laureles. About 90% of the time I walked alone. My walks covered from the Alpujarra metro station up to Prado. East of the Metro I covered most of the streets up to about Carrera 35. West of the Metro I went as far as Carrera 57. Call it about 250 miles of walking in El Centro over about 120 hours. The latest I was walking El Centro was about 10:30 pm.
Except for one botched pick pocket attempt I experienced no threats. There was one streetwalker who got a little grabby with a guy I was walking with and later the same night I saw 2 young guys beat up an old Colombian and take a phone from him.
Although I never made use of the streetwalkers, I walked those streets many times. I preferred the casas and my Facebook contacts. Not one of the women tried to extort me or threatened to call the police, and not one tried to raise the price. A few wanted to stay longer and a few did, but none asked for more money. More than one came over and just hung out on an evening when I didn't want anything. All I paid was their taxi (although 2 took the Metro, so cost me nothing)..

Is centro more dangerous during the day than say Tijuana?
In my opinion which differs perhaps than some of the other members a definitive yes. However in Tijuana the cops in Cahuilla around Constitution Ave like to shake down the gringos by trying to intimidate them. That's one big difference than here in Medellin. Another big difference is English is widely spoken in Tijuana.

However, I took several people for a tour if they wanted to see for themselves. I had the benefit of having someone take me around Centro the first time I decided to walk it, instead of just taking a taxi in and out.
Is it safe? Nowhere is safe. Where you are, with a few exceptions, matters a lot less than how you act.
Is centro more dangerous during the day than say Tijuana?
Tijuana overall has a much higher homicide rate, with 1,744 murdered out of a population of 1.7 million in 2017, Med had 534 killed with over 2.5 million. (pop. Estimates vary as the last census was in 2005). But most of those will be gang members killing members of other gangs, not tourists.
Alright as a first time timer going to Medellin and curious about the street scene in centro what is the safest way to check it out? Is there a map of it anywhere or details on the streets to go to and from where to access it?.
I have one posted in the MED Hotel thread attached to my review of the hotel Botero, but the website reduces the size, if it is hard to read, PM me a email and I will send you the full size one. Here it is again.
Safest hours are between 10 a and 4 p, later it gets the more drunk locals you get.
On my map the top left block is Raudal, less girls but usually hotter ones, 50-80 k, lower left is the block behind the VeraCruz church, it is the busiest one, girls start at 30 k and will be very close to a short term hotel they will take you too. If they look young make sure you card them, the young ones hang out there on the corner, "Cedula por favor" (ID) Make sure they are 18+.
Lower right around Bolivar park ignore, mostly not females.

1 SB.
Occasionally, they allow people not staying there to enter. There is an entry fee. Someone posted that the fee is 50 mil, but I think it depends on how the management feels that day. If they allow you to enter, you can only go to the bar. No problem just hanging.
M1 and M2 are separate buildings. The bar is in M1. M2 is up the hill from M1. If you don't have a room, you are not allowed in M2. If you have a room, you are allowed in both buildings.
There are no short-term rooms. You must take the lady somewhere else.

Given the rental ownership ratio, it is still considered a legal short-term rental unit. But not sure the ones who live there full-time are not allowed to make it difficult to restrict access of those they deem undesirables. After all, they have rights too!

A building in Laurles that rents to foreigners was shot up last month!
Imagine being security for that shit!
