Renting a house for $500 US a month is possible, but much would be much simpler, without the amenities.

Example, in Santiago, 3 BR, 2 BA apartments are available for about $250 US a month (unfurnished) with Dominican (questionable) management.

But this is with occasional water and power outages. You would learn about "inversores" or large household batteries, to cover some power needs during an outage.

A good reason to get familiar with an area, and learn about reliability of electricity, water, etc.

The key to rentals in DR is management.

Service is often poor, and landlords can be foolish, driving away tenants with poor maintenance, etc.
