What are the objectives of your trip?
I would like to start making hotel reservations and deciding what FKK or Suana clubs to visit and would like some help. FYI, this will be my first trip to Europe and will try to use public transit.
Since I am flying into Amsterdam I was thinking of visiting Ying Yang first, but discovered the hotels in Roemond are very expensive. So staying as flexible as possible I thought I would visit Goldentime first. Then noticing how close a lot of the clubs are in this area I thought of my Big Question.
Is there a city that is close to say, YY and GT, that I could use public transit? Would Venlo be a good choice? Also any suggestions on inexpensive clean hotels is needed.
Thanks,
Chukar
You mention a couple of things: public transport, Amsterdam, Ying Yang, Goldentime, Venlo, Roermond.
Bottom line: to get around the Golden Triangle you will need a car or be resigned to taking cabs between Yin Yang and GT which can get expensive (I say this because you find hotels in Roermond expensive. How much is expensive to you? Hotels in the countryside should run you about 35 to 40 Euros a night.)
Assuming you are a purist about public transport, you should know that public transport is available but infrequent. It is a rural area.
I once thought I'd find a way to get to Wildenrath by bus and found there is one bus per day from Duesseldorf which goes out that way and one bus per day going back. Miss that bus and you are stuck in the middle of a cow pasture.
Secondly, train lines tend to branch out from main cities such as Duesseldorf and Koeln, d.h. you might be able to take a train out from Duesseldorf to Kaldenkirchen near Goldentime but to get from Kaldenkirchen to somewhere else no matter how close by may require you to return to Duesseldorf so you can hook up with another westbound train line to take you out again.
To be sure, visit www.vrr.de and pull down their rail network map.
The clubs in this neck of the woods are not exactly public transport friendly.
The clubs directly in Duesseldorf, Koeln and in the Ruhr are much better suited to carless travel but you seem dead set on visiting GT (nice club but its way too hectic for my taste) and Yin Yang (never been).
If I were in your shoes, I'd base myself in Duesseldorf and do day trips from there.
I've met German women who find German spoken..
My accent is simply horrible, but my grammar is pretty strong. Inside an FKK machts nicht. Most of the ladies are not native speakers either. On the street in Germany, most Germans seem surprised when they hear an American speaking German (no way I can hide I'm an American with my accent). I've had some pretty friendly and pleasant conversation in German with the locals. That said, I rarely use German in a business context as it isn't up to snuff. I'm also not looking for freebees, although it has happened a couple times over the years in Germany.
So I wouldn't get overly hung up on accent if you don't plan on living or doing business in Germany.
... with a slight foreign accent exotic and appealing.
Their curiosity takes over, they ask questions and want to know more about you. Svenja at Bernds thought I was pulling her leg when I said I wasn't from there and didn't live there either.
If your grammar is solid and you don't make sentences like Ich nicht verstehen then you don't belong in the same category as the Anatolian peasant who has moved into the house next door, cooks stinky food using too much garlic, repairs his car and washes it on the street on Sundays (No one works on Sundays and this includes washing your car and mowing your lawn) and has unruly, unintelligible kids who hang out on the street until the late hours of the night. These folks they don't have a very good impression of.
Recommendations for newbies
FYI, this will be my first trip to Europe and will try to use public transit.
YY and GT are only close if you have a car.
Option 1: stick to GT only. More than enough eye candy there to make your dick sore for days. Take the train to Kaldenkirchen and make it your base. Then you can cab over to GT. There is a nice and reasonably priced hotel (45 euros/night for single) by the train station, Hotel zur Post that I would personally recommend. Great breakfast and friendly owner too:
http://www.hotelzurpost-nettetal.de/anfahrt.html
Option 2: stick close to an urban hotel in Dusseldorf (plenty of cheap hotels there) and go to Living Room (sister club of GT). Very easy to get to by public transport. From Dusseldorf Hbf, take line S28 in the direction of Kaarst and get off at Ikea stop. Club is just a 5 minute walk from there. Excellent facilities, good food, not as many girls as GT but there are gems there.
Option 3: Take train to Koln and hit Samya. Plenty of info in Samya thread, including directions on how to get there by public transport.
Then I will do the same too...
Not to nitpick, but "akzentloses" isn't correct usage in that situation, i.e. describing one's German language skills. Even though -los and -frei can be substituted in many cases there are still better and worse forms of usage. It'll be understood, but it doesn't sound really German...
Ask your local Germanst(-in)... I did just to make sure... )))
.. ask my local Muttersprachler(in), that is.
I had dinner this past New Year's Eve with a German friend who I had a long discussion with about verkaufbar and verkaeuflich, of all things.
She thought verkaeuflich was the better way to go. Why?
She really couldn't explain. It just sounded right to her.
Sie is from Hannover and the Hannoveraner claim to have a monopoly on deciding what is correct and what is not correct language-wise as they speak authentic Hoch Deutsch.
Do I learn something every day? Yes, I do.
I do aspire to infallible status such as the Pope has but it is to this day, just an aspiration. :)
Karneval is coming up soon in Koeln
I pulled this calendar down from the web somewhere.
StraßenKarneval 2008
Weiberfastnacht: Do., 31.1.
Schull-/Veedelszöch: So., 3.2.
Rosenmontag: Mo., 4.2.
Nubbelverbrennung: Di., 5.2.
Aschermittwoch (6.2.) ist alles vorbei.
Been there, done that.
The whole city turns out on Rosenmontag to walk around, see the Carnival parade and get drunk.
The Koelner Bahnhof is normally a zoo but it was even more of a zoo on this day with extra trains bringing folks from the whole of NRW. Not a good idea to drive your car into the city on a day like this.
Thousands of folks stepping off the trains early in the morning were already obviously drunk. Everybody was in a good mood, even the cops and there was really funky music playing constantly in the background.
It was interesting but also tiring, overall a fun thing to experience but would I do it again? No, for the simple reason that the clubs were not at full force during the festivities.
Clubs do tend to have special carnival events before the main event days. During the main event days listed above though the girls tend to want to take time off and some of the clubs are closed.
I went to Babylon on Rosenmontag, knocked on the door and found a workman doing some maintenance who let me know that the club was closed.
Duesseldorf also has a carnival and it is, of course, a competing carnival to what takes place in Koeln. Koeln though, is pretty much ground zero.
Anyone see the movie based on the Heinrich Boell novel Die verlorene Ehre von Katharina Blum? It starts off with carnival in Koeln.
The thing to do at Karneval is to try to hook up with the numerous females running around the city looking for some action. Club action, at least on Rosenmontag itself, is sparse.
Note that there are two issues here:...
Jackyo,
"akzentfrei" (as in ´akzentfreies Deutsch´) and "verkäuflich" it is.
Note the Umlaut. Good luck perfecting your deutsch!

... determining what is common usage for a certain term versus going with what is understandable and totally correct but not common usage.
Paid translators, in case anyone wants to know, are only allowed to translate in one direction: in the direction of their mother tongue.
Non native speakers should defer to anyone who speaks German as a mother tongue. It is not my mother tongue, just one I happen to have spent considerable time using.
FKK (mostly) in Dusseldorf/Dortmund
Gents,
I'm putting this post here because the majority of it is FKK-related.
After lurking and absorbing, I formulated a plan for an upcoming trip. I've never gone wrong by overpreparing, particularly when I don't speak the language and am travelling solo. I'm sure I'm missing many important things, and would appreciated having those of you with local knowledge weigh in.
I will revise this post with additional details, links, and comments based on your responses, so hopefully this post will be a useful resource for others looking in the same areas. For pricing, (50; 50/25) denotes EU50 entry fee, EU50 first 30 minutes, EU25 subsequent 30 minutes.
PMs are most welcome, and I'd enjoy meeting up with fellow mongers during my trip.

Arriving: Dusseldorf Airport, 7 AM on a Sunday morning, serious jetlag. Booked a room at the airport Sheraton for convenience, hoping I can check in early or (worst case) just ditch my luggage quickly. I wouldn't normally make such a choice, but I wanted to save my energy for other activities!

US$175 including taxes and fees (Expedia).

Sunday *****
The most likely in-town possibilites seem to be Dolce Vita and Blue Note. However, Living Room isn't that far away and is accessible via public transport. Maybe even easier than the others. I'm an FKK Newbie. Advice is welcome.
http://www.fkk-livingroom.de/ (50; 50/25). Looks like it's easy via the train:

http://www.saunabluenote.de/ (55; 30/30). Take S-bahn to Rath-Mitte + 5 min walk.
http://www.fkk-dolcevita.com/index_engl.html. It appears to be at a new location
and local directions would be appreciated. Reisholz, seemingly close
to one of the train routes on the southern part of the city.
- Web says before 7:30 PM: (0; 80/40). After 7:30 PM: (40; 50/50).
- Possible special before 7:00 PM: EU120 for 3 shots (I wonder if this
is 30 minutes each shot)?
Other things that caught my eye (but may not be current):

hard to judge quality ahead of time. Prices?)

Early/Midweek *****
Travel to Dortmund Monday. However, I could spend the day in Dusseldorf, heading to Dortmund later, or head for Dortmund and explore the possibilities there. Either way, Dortmund is the base for daytime business and possibly one nighttime of fun on Tuesday/Wednesday. I got a good rate at the Steigenberger Hotel Dortmund.
http://www.dortmund.steigenberger.de/
US$87 including taxes and fees (Expedia).
Information on the list is more difficult to assess than for Dusseldorf. If I'm missing something obvious, let me know. Yes, I'm excluding the PartyTreff clubs.
Bel Ami appears to be a Red Carpet club in Dortmund, information on the site http://www.fkk-vitalis.de/. In West Dortmund, apparently close to one of the train lines, but I couldn't find any information on directions, prices, or reviews as it may be newly re-opened? Old pricing may have been (35; 25/25).
Neby (I'm not sure if it qualifies as an FKK?) is also to the west, not far from Bel Ami I believe. Info is sparse.

Club 111? No web site I could find, no luck searching for info beyond the FKK FAQ.
Happy-FKK. (30, ?/?). South east of the city. Unless someone has information newer than I found on the web, it's probably not worth trying. http://www.happy-fkk.de/
Finally, http://www.daslaufhaus.de/. It would be nice to know the pricing structure, but I gather that you choose a girl out front, then go inside and hire a room. I wonder if this is essentially the streetwalker scene? I found some posts from 2006 about Laufhaus in Frankfurt, and imagine it's the same idea.

Thursday *****
Thursday: planned on getting a rental car, to leave town early afternoon. Head for Hennef, hopefully to get a hotel room and hit Bernds. It's extremely well-reviewed, so I won't do that here. However, someone commented that Bernds wasn't a great choice for FKK newbies. Anyone want to comment? Hotel recommendations appreciated (I recall seeing one recommendation in the list and will certainly re-check it).

Friday *****
Bernds. Why rock the boat when I expect to have a great time?

Saturday *****
Return car in Dusseldorf. Find a place to stay (actually, I'll probably book a place ahead of time). As for activities, I have the same range of choices that I listed earlier for Sunday. If guys have comments about particular choice for a Saturday afternoon/evening (I expect everything will be busy), it would be interesting.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Random questions: what is the escort scene? And do FKK girls ever set up something outside the club? The latter part of this is economics. How many guys would the typical FKK girl do in a night? 6? This is, say EU300. I'd happily pay EU300 for an evening/night alone with a girl if we had chemistry.
Based on a quick glance at the main Germany page with mention of escorts, my arithmatic is way off. I'm missing something, or else I can't figure out why the FKK pricing is so relatively cheap?
Respectfully,
OBG
