Im in generel speaking. While driving in a cab yesterday. I forgt to lock the door, savety lock. We pass a side street at daylight and one old guy point at the open door to me, made me understand to lock it. A few meters I saw why he told me, two young guys totally "stoned" came to my cab, makeing some fun faces..staring at me..pinoys are very fast, it was at daylight, they full of drugs and those things allways occur while they full of drugs, no thinking , no plan, just acting...

It was daylight..so next time, when riding a cab. make sure you lock the doors :)

Angeles city's best kept secret is that Dennis Rodman's father lives in town and owns a small restaurant with great food at cheap prices. He has lots of stories to tell -- he has been living in AC for like 40 years. Highly recommended!

His restaurant is opposite the Blue Fields Hotel.

Still another reason why I like Davao so much. The mayor has said quite publicly that foreigners here are to be protected, and that messing with them means messing with him, which believe me no one wants. There's never any violence here directed at foreigners no matter where they're staying.

The talking is just part of the bamboo pipeline that services the area.I am sure they know just like a casino would know back home WHAT YOU DO WHEN AND HOW MUCH.In most cases its just for the being friendly attatude most have,but it can run deeper in other circles.You never know who knows what because so much info gets out around.

Like I said in another post never give out lots of info and why build yourself up too be a greater walking liability than you have to be.It's not anydifferent here than in anyother place on the globe.If you put yourself in the rong area at the right time you will get bitten.

Try checking into a motel and see after a day or two who knows where you went the night before, what you spent, and who you brought home and had exit before the sun came up.It will blow your mind how much info gets pushed around the bamboo hotline.And some here say the people are not that smart,think again.I would even bet they know if you have on boxers or briefs.

If caught they'd get a year in jail at most. Death for getting caught w/200 hits of ectasy but maybe only a year for killing a round eyed expat!! That will let you know how high on the food chain the caucasian is considered in SE Asia! Remember the nanny that paid her brothers $200 usd to stab her Clark AFB Airman ATM's wife to death in the late 80s? The stabbers did a year and the trollup was out in a matter of months for ratting out her brothers she hired to do it!! In Thailand you commit "suicide" flying off a balcony, found hanging with your hands bound or by smothering yourself with a trash bag. Only a fool lives ungated in SE Asia or any Spanish/Portugese Speaking country. In Brasil a few years back that woman kept her "dissappeared" long-dist-lover-gringo-chump alive for weeks and had him tortured so they could slowly empty his money market fund. When the accounts froze they tightened up the garrott to kill him. There was no investigation. She got caught because she had his credit cards in her purse when her friend's car got towed in SP. As the global ecomomy get's worse (rice price doubled in April) you will see more violent crimes at home (US) and abroad.

The bar's name I forgot. If you go to the Blue Fields Hotel or the Marquis Hotel walk about 2 to 3 minutes up the the road to the corner where you will find his outdoor bar/restaurant. The place really is not nothing fancy in apperance, but the food is good and the owner is a nice guy with lots of stories to tell. I prefer this place to all of the places on Fields, so much more relaxing with good music.

Filipinos get robbed just as much as expats. The place is basically lawless and one needs to be on one's gurad all the time. One of the groups that are major culprits are the trike drivers as they know when and who enters and leaves a house. Locking a house and going out is not good enough, you need someone to stay in the house 24/7. Also bar all windows. Make sure the bamboo telegraph knows you carry a gun at the house (even if you do not). Filipinos have huge respect for people with a gun.

good advice al2. i gave similar advice in a post not so long ago and was criticised for being too clinical, particularly in my use of anti-bacterial bodywash/mouthwash. but i would rather go through my well established hygiene rituals and stay clean than take unnecessary risks and end up paying the consequences.

I would beg to disagree with that. Foreigners are targeted much, much more IMO. If you are a filipino unlucky enough to look like a kano, you may get the equal opportunity treatment though. Happened to one filipino guy some months ago not far off Fields. This kano-looking filipino guy was walking with his (pregnant) filipina wife when he was held up. He resisted and got stabbed badly, but survived.

Yes, and it's not getting any better, rather the opposite. Fields is still pretty OK and the well lit areas are low-risk. It is advisable to be vigilant and as as little drunk as possible though...

A new series of raids was conducted tonight in AC

Here is the information that I have been able to verify from multiple sources:

There were 4 raids conducted by the NBI. The bars that were raided were, Roadhouse, Alaska, KOD (king of diamonds) and Voodoo. The raids started about 11:50pm or so.
There were 3 girls taken from Roadhouse, all of the Alaska girls and staff were taken, the number of girls taken from KOD and Voodoo were unable to be conformable by me, but there is a high likelihood that all or most of them were taken. The Alaska girls were loaded into Jeepneys and taken away.
Most of the Alaska staff was later released, but there are still some being held/detained for reasons unknown to me.

According to an eyewitness on fields ave who saw the NBI guys, the NBI were heavily armed with big guns [ the witness described guns that were similar to armalites (sp?)/ M-16 assault type rifles]

There is a mass of speculation that was/is floating around and even more opinions about who and what was behind these raids, but the simple fact remains that there were 4 confirmed raids that happened. If any more information is able to be confirmed, then certainly I will make an update on this thread.

Now for another interesting point of view with regards to these raids. I do not know if anyone else noticed, but all of the bars that were raided were members of ACTA. Coincidence? (for those of you who do not know what/who ACTA is, they are the Angeles City Tourist Association) and they are comprised of some bars, not all of the bars in AC)

Do you know what the actual ratio of membership is? If you look closely a great number of establishments are in fact displaying the Acta membership sign together with their membership number, so it's easy to get the impression it's (still) quite high.

Should these new events be interpreted as yet another push in the direction of making a filipino head of ACTA?
