The Claudia I'm referring to was definitely a different Claudia. She was probably 5'6-5'7, in her late 20s, with black wavy/curly hair. My memory is [i]very[/i] hazy from that night so I'm not 100% sure but I think it is safe to say we are talking about two different girls here.

Back in the early 90s it was an amazing place with a spectacular lineup of hotties. Nobody ever looked better than Rosie did wearing impossibly tiny short shorts. As I've written here before, the lighting in the Chicago Club well and truly sucks. You just can't see the girls in the gloomy alcove near the front door, or in the shadows near the DJ booth. And when they sit at the bars they are backlit by the brightest lights in the club. Both the Adelita Bar and the Hong Kong Club have excellent lighting that's easily the equal of any high end strip club in the states. The Chicago Club needs to copy it.

Second, the frequent strip shows are not helping. The lights are even dimmer while they are ongoing, and it's just impossible to see any of the girls. Having a single girl occupying the massive stage for 15 or 20 minutes is just not cutting it. Even if she is passably hot it's boring to watch only her. Perhaps this was the state of the art in south of the border raunch circa 1960, but today the Chicago Club single girl strip show pales in comparison to what they're doing at the Hong Kong Club. Back in the 90s the manager would periodically require all the girls to take the stage fully clothed where they danced to something upbeat for a couple of songs. It was like being at a nightclub full of hotties, except you could bang all of them. If they can rebuild their staff this might be a nice alternative to the endless dull strip shows.

Finally, the Chicago Club seems to have morphed into a ficha bar. The handful of girls who are worth a second look spend most of their time sitting and drinking with customers. I don't know how you encourage turnover. But it's frustrating to see somebody you'd like to take upstairs sitting in a booth for hours on end.

Perhaps all this is wishful thinking. I suspect there are only so many high end customers, and their number has been sharply reduced by the current global economic slowdown. Maybe the demand is such that only two high end clubs can survive and whoever owns the Chicago Club has elected to cede the field to their rivals. Sigh. The place was tons of fun in the past and it's sad to see it reduced to a gloomy hole in the wall.

Obviously, there is a big difference between this year and last year in safety regardless of locality. From what I hear, they are no full-on protesting and blocking streets in the city of Monterrey, MX. A riot ready to happen. Also, a journalist was recently killed there that was reporting on the violence and dissidence.

If you still elect in venturing to Ensenada(I highly recommend this city and it is my favorite in all of MX), head on over to the Casa Country Bar and Campo where they have a large contingency of ex-patriates in a very safe beach community. Back in 2006, I was able to rent a 900 sq.foot house for $300/month. It is about two miles south of downtown. Most Mexican Nationals will know of its whereabouts.

And yes, the danger in MX is a real issue and will continue to be so(it is going to get worse) for the foreseeable future.

Last Thursday I decided to take a break from opressing the proletariat and do a really quick, really cheap, TJ run. The G7 was down for its annual, so flying was out of the question.
