Landed on Friday in the morning, and after a long flight, it even rained, that's my luck! After the first cultural shock (especially when you enter Mtwapa) my first though was " Where the fuck have you come for holiday?"".

Accommodation.

I am staying at Prestige apartments in Mtwapa. They arranged a driver to drive me from the airport to the apartment, cost of 1500 KSH. Found this apartments on the net, and I must say its really good, and pictures from web are accurate. The stuff is really nice and helpful, it has a restaurant in the complex (food is nice and cheap). I have chosen the big apartment, which is really big (3 rooms) with a fully equipped kitchen, so plenty of room here, price for the apartment with included breakfast is 4000 ksh per day. They have A / C in all apartments and rooms, so plus on that one. Also there is a pool in the compound, it looks clean and safe, but I haven't tried it yet. All in all, its a good place to stay for having fun, which I would recommend for stay to all harder mongers out there. The prices for a Room are around 2300 KSh with breakfast.

Location and safety.

Its Mtwapa, basically a big dump, although a lot of building is going on in the area, people told me the prices for houses are raising rapidly, and many foreigners are buying building grounds.

Never minding the "look" of the place, people are really nice here, you can walk in the day without any problems that something will happen to you, if you have any questions, anyone on the street will help you if they can. My apartment is placed of away from the main road (ca. 10 mins walk) so its nice quiet, and about 20 mins walking from the beach in Mtwapa. Also, the Tusky supermarket is in comfortable walking range (ca. 10-15 min) , and it has everything you need if you are self catering like me. Only alcohol you must buy somewhere else, I still heavent found it, need my driver too take me there.

Fun time.

During day, Everything is dead! I didn't find in Mtwapa anything, beside Casaurina, where I would even drink something, but I heavent explored yet much. Casaurina is empty through the day, not even one customer, and even it is weekend, no luck there. In the afternoon, I was two times at Big tree, and it is empty also, today (Saturday) I was until 18:00 (like 4 hours) , and no girls there either. Have to check out the other spots in the next days.

Night time. That is a completely different situation! (consider it was my first time as mongerer).

Saturday

This time went to Casaurina later, around midnight, and it was much better, still not really full, but OK. There were also other mongers this time, but not many, maybe 10-12 people. Had to nice days, weather became good again, no rain at the moment.

Monday went on a tour through Mombasa with a official guide, who showed me the city, ports, fort Jesus and so on. It lasted for 4 hours total, cost 2000 ksh (+ taxi 2500 ksh). A tip on this tours, they are ok, but there is really nothing you would miss if you don't do it. I asked my driver for prices to Casablanca (and Florida respectively) , after a little bargain, we came to the price of 3000 ksh, he would drive me to Casablanca, wait there, then to Florida, wait again, and after that drive me back to the apartment in the morning. Maybe ill do it, but those taxi drives get on my pocket already. Need to start using motorcycles which are way cheaper.

Close to posta, there is a Barclays ATM which I use for money withdrawal. 20.000 ksh is maximum one can take.

Daytime action.

Was at Cheers two times, on Monday afternoon (ca. 14:00 h) the place was almost empty, some really crappy girls (maybe 4-6) there which I refused to even talk to, real shit. We passed through Il Covo club, mostly Indian folks go there, and there is a entrance fee of 1000 ksh (both girls and guys) at night, but for this 1000 ksh one can drink on the bar. Big tree was still empty at about 17:00 h, maybe two or three WG there, no tourists either.

Pirates is located about a 7 minutes walk from big tree further down the beach. At the moment it is definitely the local hangout on the beach, a lot of people there, in front of it, around it, just everywhere. It seems a fun place. Side information on the local situation.

It seems (and this was said to me by many locals I talked to) that there are LOT lees tourists currently in Mombasa than it is normal for this time, and people can't explain why. Many girls went back home (to their tribes) because they simply couldn't afford to stay in town with such a shortage of tourists (poor little girls). Furthermore, at the moment (as also seen in my report) , through the day, most places are close to dead empty because of the tourist shortage, so there is really nothing to do in the day except beach, or fucking your girl the whole day like me (got bored on that one already).

This trick should get you out of most situations with the police. They don't want to have anything to do with official embassy's stuff. And for all of you who drive cars in Mtwapa, she told me, if you hit a person or have an accident, don't stop your car, don't go out of it, don't try to help, within seconds you will be overrun by the locals, and all shit will hit you.

And one important information, the rate of HIV in Mtwapa is estimated at a whooping 80% of the locals. This is giving me some serious thoughts at the moment.
