Great Report. Best in a Long Time
Hi all,
Had to nice days, weather became good again, no rain at the moment.
Monday went on a tour through Mombasa with a official guide, who showed me the city, ports, fort Jesus and so on. It lasted for 4 hours total, cost 2000 ksh (+ taxi 2500 ksh). A tip on this tours, they are ok, but there is really nothing you would miss if you don't do it. And some stuff is pretty gross, I do have a hard stomache and am usually not set up by anything, but at the meat market, damn that smell, I had to battle to keep myself together to not throw up right there!
I asked my driver for prices to Casablanca (and Florida respectively) , after a little bargain, we came to the price of 3000 ksh, he would drive me to Casablanca, wait there, then to Florida, wait again, and after that drive me back to the apartment in the morning. Maybe ill do it, but those taxi drives get on my pocket already. Need to start using motorcycles which are way cheaper.
Close to posta, there is a Barclays ATM which I use for money withdrawal. 20. 000 ksh is maximum one can take.
Daytime action.
Was at Cheers two times, on Monday afternoon (ca. 14:00 h) the place was almost empty, some really crappy girls (maybe 4-6) there which I refused to even talk to, real shit. On Tuesday I was there with my girl around 17:00 h, and still not much going on, about 10 to 13 WG girls were there. 2 even approached me when my girl was at the toilet, giving their numbers and say 1000 ksh for fun time, but I gladly denied it, those looked like severe junkies to me. Also no tourist / mongers (maybe 1 or 2) there altogether in my two visits.
Have visited Kahama sports bar, the place looks nice and clean, prices are reasonable, but since I was there in the afternoon (15:00) , the place was also empty. (Talk about my luck with empty places, LOL). After that I called my girl in, she gladly arrived within 45 minutes (in Kenya time this was 15 minutes) , we had a chat, she knows all the staff there (didn't see any nice girls at that time though) , so I used the time to squeeze some nice info out of her, read below for that. Prices for Burgers are around 450 ksh, meat plates around 850 ksh, coffee 200 ksh, and they have wines (both red and white) , all go for 1200 ksh per bottle. From 5 to 8 (mon to tue) there is Dabo Dabo (Happy hour) , with drinks on action. After finishing my Burger with chips (800 ksh) , went for a beach walk with my girl up to Pirates. We passed through Il Covo club, mostly Indian folks go there, and there is a entrance fee of 1000 ksh (both girls and guys) at night, but for this 1000 ksh one can drink on the bar. Big tree was still empty at about 17:00 h, maybe two or three WG there, no tourists either.
Pirates is located about a 7 minutes walk from big tree further down the beach. At the moment it is definitely the local hangout on the beach, a lot of people there, in front of it, around it, just everywhere. It seems a fun place. Many girls watched at me and smiled, some looked pretty pissed that I was with company there! So this seems to be a good spot for day pickups at the moment. The girls I saw looked Ok, not bombs, but I would sure do some of them. Will check that one later this week.
In Nakumat supermarket seems to be a fancy bar / club at the top (the name is like Chebs, or something like that) , where I was said a loot of the "better" (and no malaya) girls hang out at day. But that could reflect on the price also.
Big tree has a party night every Sunday, I was there this Sunday and it was really fun and nice. Those I recommend to anyone.
Today was my beach day, so I was at Big tree from 12:00 h till 17:00, just laying at the lounger there, drinking beer and swimming. Damn I caught myself a sewer sunburn on the legs, this will hurt tomorrow! Around 16:00 h I had a pleasant surprise, the place started to get alive! People were actually coming in, tourists, and even girls! I was not in the mood for company, got some numbers, but no girl made me change my stance from beach mode to fuck mode, sadly.
My Conclusion on day action: Before 18:00 h (or even 19:00 h) , I don't even think about finding any nice girls anymore. Maybe Pirates changes my mind.
I have made my mind up, and will switch to a Hotel for my second week, most likely Severin (still not sure though) , Friday I want to hit Casaurina again, and maybe Saturday, but after that Ill switch to holiday in a hotel, no more mongering then.
Side information on the local situation.
It seems (and this was said to me by many locals I talked to) that there are LOT lees tourists currently in Mombasa than it is normal for this time, and people can't explain why. Many girls went back home (to their tribes) because they simply couldn't afford to stay in town with such a shortage of tourists (poor little girls). Furthermore, at the moment (as also seen in my report) , through the day, most places are close to dead empty because of the tourist shortage, so there is really nothing to do in the day except beach, or fucking your girl the whole day like me (got bored on that one already).
At Big tree today, I had a great conversation with an older women, which turned out to live in Mtwapa for the last 7 years! And that women rocked, we talked freely, we both knew what we were doing here, and it was a great conversation. She told me to, at any cost, stay out of any trouble with locals in Mtwapa, never ever cheat (steal from) locals, and never get in a fight here (if this happens, your plain fucked). Don't expect any help from the police, and, in case you get in any police controls or bad situations with the police, the best thing is you immediately state you want to talk to your (insert your nations embassy here) in Nairobi, and that you are calling your lawyer from that embassy. This trick should get you out of most situations with the police. They don't want to have anything to do with official embassy's stuff. And for all of you who drive cars in Mtwapa, she told me, if you hit a person or have an accident, don't stop your car, don't go out of it, don't try to help, within seconds you will be overrun by the locals, and all shit will hit you.
And one important information, the rate of HIV in Mtwapa is estimated at a whooping 80% of the locals. This is giving me some serious thoughts at the moment.
Great Report. Very accurate and very valuable advice that should be heeded.
The only divergence of opinion I would have is the 80% hiv rate in Mtwapa. This is purely anecdotal and certainly untrue. Any seach on google will provide accurate rates of hiv on the coast. But this does not spoil a great report. MMMMMM Pirates here we cum!
