I hate to say it, but I agree with Oakie. We've been down this road many time before. Short of them using threats, physical violence, or bulldozing down establishments, I don't see anything changing. We will know they are serious when hotels there will not allow you to bring a chica back to your room. Until then:
You'd better watch it, you'll be getting hate mail :)
But Revere has a point.
I reported after my last trip the relatively quiet development that has been going on on the back beaches. My GF and I were checking out high end condos for a buddy of mine. He wanted the best. We walked from Infiniti Blu to Blue Bayou, and were stunned by this huge Gansevoort Ocean Club and Spa Resort. My words were WTF? Who's going to pay those prices to stay in Sosua. ?
The GF, who is well connected locally couldn't believe it. Probably some of you residents down there are familiar with it, but to me it seemed to pop up literally overnight, with little publicity. It is major luxury Resort Hotel / Condo development, that you cannot see from anywhere in Sosua unless you actually go down that quiet little back road. But it is still in the heart of Sosua.
To your point, of course, and I checked, they are not "guest friendly" as we understand the term. So I passed.
So you can imagine the tensions between those heavyweight investors and the local hooker bars. The politicians are caught in between. Who's gonna line their pockets more? :)
Funny thing, though, on their web site the Ocean Club advertise "close to sizzling nightlife"! So they'll probably encourage high end discos, clubs and resaurants.
Maybe high end hookers too?
It's always the little guy who gets kicked in the ass!
I do not disagree with your comments. But you did not have a Gansevoort and new new real estate development happening. It was just al talk the tourists are coming but not now. You have one of the most expensive hotels in all of the Dominican Republic leading the charge.
I hear you Revere. But remember it was not too long ago it was supposedly the cruise lines like Carnival leading the charge after that port was built in (I forget the name of the place).
I don't doubt what you are saying is taking place, but the only way you are going to keep men and chicas from coming to Sosua is if the hotels there tell them they can no longer bring chicas back to their room (changing their policy of being "Guest Friendly"). I will say they mean business once that happens. You take away a monger's place to conduct business with a chica (hotel room) and there is no reason to go there anymore.
Otherwise I think chicas will continue to risk getting arrested so long as there are guys continuing to show up to Sosua and pay for their services. If she can make 16,000 pesos over the course of 4 days (two sessions at 2000 pesos per day), then a night in jail may be worth the risk to her.
So keep an eye on New Garden, Terra Linda, Europa, and Wilfred's place (don't remember the name of his hotel) as a sign of any meaningful changes to come...

I think everyone would be happy if the crowd was high end and it less open and in your face to the tourists who walk through, but that makes it great for a lot of other people. I do not know the answer to the right mix. You cannot make everyone happy. Still, i cannot imagine police messing with men. Either way has no effect on my flow. I took that bus one time from santo domingo and hated every minute of it. Forced me to step up my game and learn spainish and see what the country really had to offer. Again, othet people might love the bus it is easy and safe i just like to move around when i want. Met some cool people moving around met a lot of cool people who live in the back of sosua that will give you a good perspective on what is going on.

Looks like an appearance thing to me. The politicians are probably working both ends as we speak. It's not a competition. It's finding a way for both to co-exist so the money can flow into each pocket from both directions. High end hookers indeed. LOL. But even on the high end they need some privacy. Those rich guys can't be taking putas back to The Ocean Club.
Recently I drove to Canada to conduct some business and was stopped for secondary inspection by the Canadian Border Patrol. They grabbed my Iphone and Ipad and when they could not access it they asked me to unlock them. I asked what they would do if I refused and they told me that they would confiscate both devices and arrest me for hindering an investigation. I was brought into a holding area, cuffed, searched and detained. I unlocked them both as I really had nothing to hide and they spent 2 hours going through all my FB stuff, Whatsapp, my photos etc. ,asked me a thousand questions etc. After going through it all they refused to let me enter the country and I had to drive 6 hours home. When I calmed down a little I called my Canadian lawyer and told him what happened as I could not believe they had the right to do it and my lawyer sent me a link to the law that specifically says that they can confiscate your electronic devices for up to 60 days basically just for the fuck of it. So me thinks if the Canadian authorities have the legal balls to do it the Dominicans certainly do. All the Dominican authorities have to do is grab a handful of phones or a handful of guys every day for refusing to give up their phones and word would get around quite rapidly, they don't need to do it to hundreds of guys.
There's a major difference. In Canada the police and border patrol are highly trained, we'll paid and have excellent benefits. In the DR I doubt if the police have much training, I'm certain their pay and benefits are at the low end of the scale.
Those highly trained Canadians know the laws and you aren't going to be able to intimidate them or confuse them. However, the DR police, from all reports, seem to be uncertain, unless they've been given specific guidance. They are willing to try for the easy bribe, but that's about it.
You must have really pissed off Canada. I cross the border every week and never have any issues.

I say this stuff is all going on over the heads of the average monger, and it make no sense to worry on the outcome. After all, back in 2000 or so, they flattened half of Charamicos to make way for a Marina down by the river. The hotel and the literally hundreds of condos they built there are still derelict.
(If anybody knows the full story of that debacle, please post!)
That would have been a major signal that the times they were a changin', and yet still nada!
Like Save a Pro says, keep an eye on the local hotels for any change in their "guest" policy.
Keep an eye on the PC strip, which IS Sosua, for any serious "reclaimation" efforts, whoever controls the street, runs the show :)
But most of all, keep an eye on the cops. The day they start hassling mongers the show is over!
Until then, don't worry, be happy!
Like Save a Pro says, keep an eye on the local hotels for any change in their "guest" policy.
Sosua is a horse of a different color. I don't know about New Garden, but the other hotels around there are owned by foreigners and they know the clientele that they have catered to for years is the monger. Plus there are no major chain hotels. The major chains are the ones that make guest policies, not the mom and pops. Also, there is no influx of tourists flocking in to occupy the rooms. Regardless, the guest policy in Sosua is not going to change.

The officials are trying to propegate a few ideas that we know are BS: Drugs are rampant in Sosua; drugs and prostitution in Sosua are harming North Coast tourism; Sosua was once a family destination.
"En ese sentido, el fiscal titular de Puerto Plata, Osvaldo Bonilla dijo ayer sbado que con estas medidas se busca rescatar esa importante zona turstica de la prostituciand, trafico de drogas why que las visitas de familias sean retomadas como en tiempos atras. ".
"La semana pasada el procurador Francisco Domnguez Brito mostr su preocupaciand por el auge que ha tomado la presencia de trabajadoras sexuales en las calles de Sosa, al punto que ha degradado el turismo en la costa norte. ".
Well the changes won't affect me because my game is so superior, I don't need Sosua. (Actually I do. I am crying).
I can recall the first BIG crackdown happening in 2011.
It was not the first. It had happened nine (years earlier. In 2011 I remember the vets brushing it off and saying "we have been through all this before, it will revert to normal within a year".

I never said my game is so superior you tried to hate and put words in my mouth typical of someone who worries about another man and not themselves. I said it has no effect if changes are are made. Does not mean I am better than you. When Lebron took over game 7 in the fourth quarter with that blocked shot of the NBA championship he did it because he wanted it more in the moment. People did not say at the end of the game he thinks his game is so superior they said Lebron wanted it more and took it like a man and real men respected it. Just because I do not want to get off a plane and just sit on a strip and wait for the right girl to come along does not make me superior. I just want to win and I am not limiting myself to a few block radius. If I do not like what I see or feel I keep it moving. Does not make me superior I just want it and going to make it happen my way. I want it more than you and not afraid to say it. You go "cry" I will always make it happen and I am not comfortable just hanging out with uneducated prostitutes. I feel I can do better. Does not make me better than you.
I never hear people on this board saying I want to meet the hardest pro I can that will provide me with no GFE. No, they say they want to meet someone that makes them happy. Well I am not going to fly 4 hours and sit on a strip and see if that can happen. I am going to make it happen because I want it and confident in me in doing it and I do not have to hate on another man to make me feel better.
I keep saying a man who is confident in themselves never tries to put down another man and hate by hiding behind a computer. They are confident in themselves and never worry about what another man does or thinks. They listen to what he say's and see if that helps them in what they are trying to do. Now go sit behind your computer and think about that.

Overall, I agree with Oakie. All these big speculations, are useless for most here including the undersigned. I spent a week or so, so far this year, in that town (and had a good time as usual) and so, what will or will not happen in the grand scheme of things is nothing but much ado about nothing! Indeed observer like Pooter, resident there, has already confirmed that it is. Nonetheless, it has scared off newbies like NZ smith, who is planning to be safe at BB, even though I would bet, things would very much remain the same in Sosua.

To have some current facts:
Is Rumba bar still closed or open till 12 pm?
Are there now far fewer girls on the streets and in the bars?

The "game" is had by the local hulos who fuck them for free and send them out to get money from us foreigners for their babies!
They don't post here :)

Real men, or guys with "game" don't pay for sex!
How can a monger who pays for sex, have "game" anyway?

Hotel owners (and restauranteurs) only care about filling seats and rooms they have vacant.
They don't give shit about politics 'til later, when they have made their money!

Went out with him Friday spent 15,000 through the night on me and her and her friend. Trust me he got game it all costs do not believe that lie its for free if you got game. We hang in santo domingo a lot just because you get away from the game and just have fun in another game. If you know anything about the game, Deon Sanders showed a lot of people hot chicks in the usa can kill you on instagram showing you sleeping in a bed when your still married. For us, travel is the way to go to get away from the nightclub game in the usa. I go to kaviar disco in puerta plata with my girl i am not paying for sex but i am.paying to hang out and have fun. It always costs money. But, i understand what your saying if you got game you do not need to hang out in sosua. I do not agree with that. In fact the dominican club across the street from rumbas on saturday and sunday nights pops with hot non pro dominicans, but you only see locals in there a lot of talent in there. I am in there having fun. Doing work. Does not just have to be just about the putas to meet women and have fun in sosua. I have spent more time in there than classicos.
