Help Is No More
I've elaborated what I thought were Help's unique advantages so it was fulfilling some need, however increasingly poorly over time. I was never one of its biggest fans but I will miss it.
I will also miss HELP. I remember the first time I walked in the door (1998)! I could not believe my eye or all the girls copping a feel. It was the complete opposite of clubs here in the U.S. Some of the best time I had in Rio were at Help and some of the finest ass in the world graced those doors. If you could dance and enjoyed doing so, you would have the time of your life in Help. It made a mere mortal feel like a rock star! (2003 &2004) Sadly in recent years, Help fell off. Oh, but the memories! Gone, but not soon forgetten.

need help
Well well, wanted to make one last trip this thanksgiving before Help closes, just missed it. Looking for apartments and apt agent is asking us to take ones near Balcony, upselling balcony as the hottest place right now.
Staying around Help you could find girls during the day at MP. Is there any spot like that near balcony? or near help is still a better mongering spot?
....I think, however, that what some guys do not realize and what I fear most, is that the closing of HELP is just the beginning and sets precedence. Ask yourself, "...what great mongering establishment is NEXT in line to fall?" VM, 4x4, L'uomo, Balcony, Barbarella, La Cicciolina, Monte Carlo, Centro, Buenos Aires 85, Buenos Aires 113, Rua Uruguaiana 24?....
If this happens--and it probably won't--Rio mongers may just have to find a new locale for mongering. Germany with its FKK Clubs may be a good alternative. I recently got back from a trip there and can attest that Club Artemis in Berlin makes the Rio termas look like convents (well, almost). In fact, I have egg on my face because I have been touting Rio as the pussy capital of the world, and I am now rethinking that.
I am not necessarily encouraging mongering in Germany; for one thing, the exchange rate at this time makes it very expensive for Americans. But my point is that the only inevitability in life (besides death) is change. Nothing lasts; Buddhists have been saying that for 2500 years. So let's enjoy the memories we have, adjust to the change, and move on. Just my two centavos (or pfennigs) worth.

Will Miss Help
I will miss Help. It was part of the scene that made mongering in Rio so diverse. Just like the termas, bars/restaurants, VM, escort services and beaches, Help was another option.
I agree is was a fun place to go to watch the scene of GDPs trying to run their angles. I has changed since I started going to Rio in 2003.
I hope another place springs up.
I too will be interested in seeing the scene in late November through December during my visit.

Moulin Rouge of Rio
Any place that inspires such emotion (both pro and con) in grown men is truly special. A few years ago, my plane landed in Rio after midnight. I got to my apartment in Ipanema about 2am. Dead tired, but all I can think is, "I have to go to Help. I have to go to Help." My heart's racing. Took the quickest shower of my life, bolted out the door.
Couldn't find a cab. Start hoofing it towards Copa. It was mid-week and Help was kind of dead, but I still felt so relieved, like I was back on hallowed ground for the first time in months. I didn't hook up that night, but I still slept like a baby.

WAIT!...A Reprieve
The owners and the state of Rio have reached an agreement. Help will stay open and close forever on Nov 15, 2009.

Here's my dos centavos on it's closing:
Those that are cheering it's demise are myopic in their views and are viewing it as the state of Rio does. Help itself was never the problem. We'll lose a great venue in this hobby of ours. That is never good. Once it's gone, it can never be replaced nor replicated. I remind you of Times Square in New York and Boston's Combat Zone.
Look at what's happening in Sao Paulo, with that local government targeting mongering establishments. With the Olympics and the World Cup on the Horizon, I fear the closing of Help is only the beginning.

Didn't someone already just post a report about VM possibly shutting down?
I seriously doubt that. Those are primarily local dives whereas Help=sex tourism. It's the sex tourism that they want to act like they're fighting. They could care less if the locals are paying for pussy.

Clarify please!!!
Does this mean that Help will be open until Nov 15?
I will be in Rio on Tuesday. I love hanging out at Help and TA. It doesn't mean that I always pull a girl from there but it has a nice Club atmosphere to relax, Drink, Dance and watch the mind games being played there.
I, for one, will definitely miss Help but if it is open till Nov. 15, I will be fine for this trip 'cause I go back Nov. 10
Can someone confirm if Help is still open?

Somebody got bribed?
My guess is that Help will (unfortunately :))not close this year. Maybe in March 2010? To much money to be made during New Year/Carnaval.

Here is some food for thought, most of these girls are from other states, like Minas Gerais and so forth, I went to fortaleza not to long ago and plaia de irashima where all the boites are is a good place to start a new mongering spot, I saw plenty of GDP there and is warm all year round so the potential to be a new spot is there. What you think fellow gentlemen? I know that these GDP from Rio would travel north. If some go as far as Europe to make money surely traveling to Fortaleza would not be a problem. I should unionize these GDP hahahaha. Um cafeton

Lorenzo,
While I am also a fan of the GErman FKK scene (went to Oase just two nights ago and had outstanding sex with a hot Brailian girl), I have to take issue with your comparison between Artemis and the Rio termas.
Yes, almost all of the girls in the German FKKs walk around completely nude, whereas they wear bathing suits in the termas. And yes, the FKKs can even be cheaper with their all-you-can-drink entrance fee of around 60 to 70 euros and the flat rate of 50 euros per half-hour pop. BUT: you can get undivided all-night attention from a girl in a terma, while by and large the girls in an FKK will not even so much as look at you any more once your 50 euros for the session have changed hands.
For my money it's definitely Rio over Germany by a wide margin. Oh, and if 4*4 what it's like in a "convent", then I'll become catholic in a hurry :D

"Plaia de irashima" = "Praia de Iracema"
(just in case somebody tries to do a forum search).

Calling ahead for cabs

Be sure that you call ahead for a cab. In Rio, they are nearly impossible to get! I come all times of the year, use them pretty much exclusively and have had to wait all of maybe 20 seconds one time.
