But for now there are no problems around the Suk area. None. Taxis have managed to figure out how to get in and out of the neighborhood. Traffic in Bangkok is probably lighter than ever because people are not driving. A few more hand grenades may change all this but the protests at Asoke today were still very friendly and it has partly turned into a street market to sell Bangkok Shutdown souvenirs. Tourists are way down but the girls are coming in because they need the money. Check back in two weeks because it is a fluid situation. But if you really want to be sure I would definitely go straight to Pattaya.

And I am thinking sometime late next week to hit BKK for a "normal" mongering spree doing my business in lower Suk. If the city is blasted to heaven I just stay put in Makati (or maby HKG). But nice to here there are no trouble whatsoever to get to convenient monger locations. Thank you for the heads up so far mr DRRonin.

Thanks to DRRonin and Syzygies for your replies! It's true, things can be different in two weeks. Good is, that I've got a flight booked to Phuket on my day of arrival on 7th. So if things turn bad, I'll still be able to spend three days in Phuket before heading for the Philippines. But I like Bangkok and its lower Sukhumvit area for mongering. And I'd definitely loose less time by staying in Bangkok before going to the Philippines.

Not only that we don't know how things are going to be in two weeks. What if the protesters want to take over the airports in order to get what they want? I mean, if things don't change the way they are right now, the protesters will have to take more or other measures to get what they want. What do you guys think changes are that problems can occur at the airports?

However it seems inevitable that the situation in Bangkok must deteriorate at some point. Its not going to just fade away. However now its still very meek and mild compared to the time of red-shirts' protests.

Calling a gathering "the mob" gives a bad impression. In Asoke they are not tightly packed in. Spread out thinly in many areas. I have no problem with mingling with them. In the past times of red-shirt action, I thought safer to stay away.

Taxis coming to Soi 23 by Cowboy to get passengers report traffic jam in the back Sois as they mostly enter at Soi 31 I think. Taxi cannot go into Soi 23 from Sukhumvit. Taxis exit Soi 23 to Sukhumvit and then there is little traffic.

For the average guy, buying socks ranks right up there with taking out the garbage and cleaning the bathroom on the list of life's thankless chores. If you decide it's a good deal, get as many bundles as you can afford-it's not like your feet are going to grow. Remember, you don't want to shop for socks again any time soon. Also, buy 2 or 3 pairs of nice socks. It may seem criminal to spend $15 on a single pair of socks, but you can generally count on them lasting for a few years and looking spiffy along with your dress shoes. Make sure not to wear these socks while you're jogging or lounging around in your apartment-you want to preserve them for a special occasion. Finally, avoid white gym socks (unless you jog or belong to a gym). Remember those thick, white, dorky socks with the colored stripes on top that always fell down around your ankles in gym class? Unless you'd like to relive your elementary school days, act like an adult and opt for nice, solid colors like blue or brown. Remember, sneaker socks should only be worn with sneakers. ;.)

In another report a guy entering his office found a hole in the window & stray bullet lodged in the wall. This may have been on the 7th floor, if I recall.

Guys coming into town,

I live up country and plan to hit BKK early next month for a visa check-in.

Plan to leave the airport early AM 6 or 7 am on the train.

Can you give me a list of a few good early morning phishing spots, IE: biting around 6 to 8 am?

Then I'm off to my check-in & the rest of the day will be spent hunting as well.

Once the afternoon hits I'm good, just not that familiar with hunting that early.

These could be random incidents or just a couple people causing trouble or something more organized. Impossible to say. But I think at this point I will stop visiting the protests. You don't want to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. On the other hand Climax was full to the rafters last night and the two go-go's I visited had a full retinue of girls and not a lot of customers.

I read, that this time they got clever and are planning to take over the Thai Air Traffic Control.

The Thai Air Traffic Control is located in an office building in the city (I believe) and it should not take more than a handful of people to occupy it.

If that happens there will be no civil air traffic to, from and over Thailand.

A classic stroke of genius!
