One more thing to consider when picking your hotel. The weather in April. In three to four days, you might see some rainy moments.

The thing I love about three to four days stay in Tijuana is the opportunity to do some serious scouting before the mounting.

A morning romp with a Alley girl helps knock the edge off for relaxing scouting. By the evening hours you should have been able to find an evening companion/tour guide.

Some of the regular night clubs on Ave Rev. Can be entertaining, watching the college kids act crazy.

I have drove down to both Rosarito and Ensenada. Not a whole lot to see other then the drive. I took the old road to Ensenada (wanted to see some Baja dunebuggy area), it was both scary and scenic. I drove to highway back (seemed safer). Your first day/night you will be stumbling around getting used to the area and culture, by your third night all the chaos will seem normal and you will not want to leave. LOL

From this point on you will be scarred for life and ruined for any (enjoyable) future US mongering. LOL

Once again convert to pesos to save a lot of money (instead of spending $1000 US it will be more like $700).

Hotel Espana and Caesar sound great to me, but having Hotel Nelson so close to watch the fun is good too. I'll just pick one and extend if I'm happy and get another room if we each get overnight companions.

I only ask about the safe in the rooms because I'll have a digital camera and cell phone on top of the money, debit card and passport. My wife and my buddy's wife think we are just visiting San Diego and only going to Tijuana because his wife recommended us visiting (how convenient, no need for an excuse to visit). So we have to make it seem like we're taking pics and of course we need to have our cellphones around. I'll think about that idea to use a mesh bag and bicycle lock. Are there lockers at the San Diego airport?

It doesn't sound like much to do other than the shopping on Revolucion, but it's so close to the border if we really get bored we can cross back into the US if needed. I wonder if we'll get bored at all with all that action so close. It reminds me of Asia and how much I missed it. But thinking of this trip makes me feel like Quagmire from Family Guy. "Giggity Giggity"

I'm already ruined for any kind of action in the US especially after the last trip to Hong Kong a few years ago. With the economy and the type of mongering here, I've already put most of my mongering on hold for a long time. It's sad how bad we have it here in the US. But I'm happy about all the other great places we can visit.

I'm definately hitting up the atm when we cross the border to get more BANG for the buck. I was wondering if the girls in the clubs will take pesos? I hope they do. Anyways, thanks for the feedback and info. I can't wait until the trip. It's so close but yet so far. "Giggity Giggity"

Just a couple of comments...

Don't get too excited about watching the fun. Revo is nowhere near what it used to be, even a couple of years ago. Until recently, after 1-ish (?) they turned out all the lights and the street was as dark as a mine shaft. They have bright new street lights now, which helps keep the cops at bay. But the days of folks running up and down Revu until 3 or 4 are pretty much over. If you like mariachis, the Nelson corner is where they all hang out.

Overnight companions are not as easy to come by as elsewhere. YMMV, but, in general, it's a lot easier to arrange TLNs after a couple of repeat sessions. So, it could happen, but don't plan on it.

Depending on your carrier, odds are good that your cell phone will not work in TJ. I have Verizon and Boost Mobile (CDMA and GSM) and they'll work in spots nearer the border, and the northern tip of Revu, and certain corners in the Zona, but not much more.

Lastly, don't compare TJ to ANY Asian destination or you will be disappointed. There is no comparison. It is what it is, and stands or falls on its own merits. It's better than anything going in the US (duh!), and you'll see more beautiful Latinas than you can shake a stick at. But there have been too many gringos, for too long, mucking up the joint. :)

Have fun, don't get your hopes up too much, go with the flow but keep your wits about you, don't let 'em fleece you and you'll be fine!

I've used both Verizon and Nextel phones in the Zona. Nextel seems to get great reception. Verizon, not so great but usable.

I have a Nextel in Mexico, but use a sprint cel for state-side calls when I'm close to the border with no problems in the Zona, or from almost any location where I'm at a higher elevation. My sprint cel works from my house in Los Pinos/Lamesa/La Presa, about 12 miles South of the border.

Just in case for anybody who goes into Mexico and has an Iphone with At&t, make sure you turn your signal off because it will charge you roaming every minute trying to search for " data " even if you aren't making calls. Just a heads up.

At one instance my Verizon phone displayed roaming on it. I guess it meant that if I used it, it would have roaming charges. It quickly went away though.

Everytime I cross the border with my Verizon phone I instantly receive a text message saying something like, "Welcome to Mexico and how to dial out while in mexico." That probably comes up on the bill. So just a heads up for those of you taking your phones across the border. Maybe you should turn them off before you cross.

Just a heads up.[/QUOTE]This is a good reminder for everyone carrying a phone with a data package. In your settings you should have the choice to go "off when roaming". They sure stick it to you with this one. The lady at ATT told me a story of helping some guy who ran up a $40, 000 phone bill because he receives so many emails while he was out of the country. They charge ridiculous rates for information sent or received while roaming internationally.

You are better off calling your cell provider, prior to your out of country visit.

You need to know what your package includes and how it will act.

I use Verizon and my team stops at the border and texts me also with instructions to place calls while in Mexico.

I tried it once but the digital operater spoke in Spanish, without saying press 2 for English (I was pissed).

Once I re-entered the USA (100 Feet) my team picked me up and texted me again saying wecolme back to USA.

I always could maintained a signal in Tijuana but I have never recieved or made a call in Mexico but have gotten voice mail notices once I returned.

I mostly keep it turn off but on my person in case of emergencies.

I sure did not want to receive a call while I was in the middle of someone. LOL I do not check my email with my phone, I use the cafes once a day if needed.

I am sure the call date/time for Mexico will reflect on your cellphone bill.

So if you call mama and tell her you are in San Deigo, the cell bill will get you busted. I think the smart camper would step across the border (your so damn close) to tell that lie. LOL

I visited Hotel Manhattan (I think it's east of Chicago by half a block), and perhaps they gave me the best room there, but it was very nice. Tile floors, queen bed, gigantic wall mirror, clean sheets and shower. I've not read anything about it here, but it's better than anything that is closer to the action.

After years of reading the reports, I finally decided to join the forum and write a report about one of my past adventures in Mexico. I'll start with my February of the last year trip. Skipping all the boring details about me eating tacos and being bored in Ensenada, I 'll get straight to Tijuana.

After taking a bus back to the border from Ensenada, I arrived in Tijuana around 6pm and decided to spend the night there. My flight back to the Bay Area wasnt till next day afternoon. So I assumed I'd entertain myself by wondering around Coahuila and stare at the street girls. Before doing that I got $15 room at Hotel Michoacan, right next to the parking lot and the police station. Big mistake. Dirty, nasty, loud, lighs on all night long outside.

Saturday night. Throngs of women around, I went to several bars I. E. Adelita's, HK, El Tropical. Beautiful women but for some reason I kept being drawn to the street girls. So finally I decide to grab one, hanging near Hotel Michoacan with several other girls of her age. About 19, cute personality, playful. 200 pesos for 20 minutes. Go back to Hotel Michoacan with her, she says "oh the price doesn't include me taking clothes off". I speak spanish well enough to let her know that "I don't like her anymore, and I am leaving to get someone else". Her attitude changes immediately, she agrees to my terms and actually gives me a nice playful GFE, even with kissing and "Aye papi, que ojos azules lindos". About an hour later I decide to grab another one, one girl caught my attention standing against the wall next to taco stands. I make her go back to her hotel room and bring me the health card, which she obliges to do. I take her to my room, go at it for 15 minutes, can't finish. The girl just gets up and leaves telling me if I want to finish, it's another 200 pesos. I am miffed, telling her to leave and going back on the street grabbing more or less the first girl I see. Very cute, from DF, she gives me a CBJ while I am fingering her, does it in several positions and finally I finish her doggy style.

Now I am hungry, walking around to get something to eat. A masked mexican cop comes up and asks me for my passport. He takes it and walks across the road where 2 more cops wait. The cop starts "We have seen someone who looks like you buying drugs and now you have to go to prison and wait till it gets sorted out". Obviously, a bribe request. I am replying "Okay, let's go, I didn't do anything, I know my rights, I am going to complain etc. " Pretty ballsy but again I had a couple of beers and felt brave. But it worked. The cops immediately turned into being my best friends joking about women, even failing to find my wallet which undoubtedly would've been rummaged through. I go back to my hotel, pissed off, scared and not wanting to do anything else that night again.

Next day went without adventures if you don't count me coming back with 104 degree fever and almost passing out on the plain. I sure hope it was just a flu. : | I haven't been back to border Mexico since then, but I did hit some places in Mazatlan and Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta that are worth being mentioned. It is for another day, however.

Libra, that was cool how you handled the cops. I would have probably retaliated. But if it happens to me I'll probably do the same thing.

Too bad you got a cold but same thing happens to me everytime I visit Tj. Bacteria is probably in the air.
