The Fantasia along with others like Cyclone etal are temproalily closed for renovations. I have it from a good source that they are installing the pole and tables in the basement cafe for some PKK type club or something like that. Also the roof garden is being decked out with pursian carpets and coushions for some serious Roman O. Not sure what nationalities, but it might be a sub branch of the UN? !. Well we live in hope.

Expected date of repoening is early summer. Just when the weather is hot and sticky.

As for the afore menstioned embassy, they are there, next to the cake looking hotel on SZR. I do not know how you could miss it. If in doubt as any police patrol and I am sure they will escort you there.

Decided to visit Rattlesnake Friday night. Arrived 10:30, had to park in the sand. Softball games going on. Almost changed my mind when hit up for the 35 dhs entrance fee - Seaview looking mighty good. But I had decided on a 'Snake site survey, so paid my fee, and in I went. Also noticed that a simple coke had gone up from 10 dhs to 11. Besides the 10% cost increase, the [i]odd[/i] price a bit frustrating. I don't mind tipping the bartender (especially when he remembers me), but these odd numbers just irk me as if management knows most punters will leave coins...

Inside, even at 10:30, not all that crowded. The usual large contingent of [i]work ethic[/i] PRC's, some Africans, and a FEW CIS. Immediately spotted Miss S, a former Miss Thursday who had [i]moved on up[/i] to the Cyclone, leaving my paltry 500/LT in the dust. Good for her. She literally gave a squeal of delight on seeing me, running over to thump me for not letting her know I was back in town. Debatable if she was available at my price THIS night, and I really wasn't in the market for a [i]known[/i]... after all, I could simply call her, saving myself 35 dhs. But she was her usual flirty self, very nice.

She introduced me to her newly arrived sister; VERY attractive. In the mixed light, almost looked like she had freckles. [i]Sis[/i], after the usual [i]litany[/i], asked me if I wanted to step outside. Feigning ignorance, I asked her why. "Go your house..." But there was just [i]something[/i] about the [u]directness[/u]... hell, I do like a little [i]foreplay[/i] to put me in the mood. None here. When I didn't IMMEDIATELY respond in the affirmative, she QUICKLY moved on.

But the bored, business look discouraged any advances from me (as if my ceiling would ever meet her floor...) Last I saw, at 1am, she was propped against a wall, same look... If I was still there by 12:00, those that know me know I was not having a good night. Just didn't see anyone really COMPELLING... My thoughts kept coming back to "Sis", so, on seeing she was still around, walked by, and said I was leaving. She asked if she could go with me; I asked how much, and she suggested we step outside into a quieter atmosphere. Actually not really encouraging... been a long time since I've had to deal with price negotiations. In the entrance, repeated my question, her response being an IMMEDIATE 500. While I might have thought that Miss S had provided my specs, there was just something... So I simply asked, LT? Noooooo, ST. Her counter-offer surprised me: I could have her friend for 500/LT. Her? I was just about to head home alone, thinking I'd be making use of the Saturday afternoon reliever pitching staff, when up "she" popped again. Now "she" was a mature PRC I'd spotted quite a bit earlier... very stylishly attired, but, given the crowd, had never managed to go over and initiate a chat. She was standing across the aisle, in front of me.

Here, I made a newbie mistake: waiting for her to turn around and make eye contact. Before she did, a 3-some came down the stairs, 2 guys and a girl. The "dated" guy pointed Miss Mature out to his friend, they exchanged some words, and damn it, off they went, back up the stairs to the pool tables. Besides the Cyclone swing and a miss [i]strike-outs[/i], now twice caught looking as the 3rd strike called. That afternoon phone list looking mighty good.

But then, back down the stairs comes Miss Mature. Obviously, the deal had not been struck. I QUICKLY stepped over, saying "hi" (there had been talk on a forum of exactly how do you approach them). The usual litany, she saying she had seen me rejecting "MANY chinese ladies", so she had not come over to chat (they are observant, and you can get mis-classified as a [i]civilian[/i]). I simply explained that I had been waiting for her. CORNY, yes, but it got the hoped for smile.

She gave me the "let's go"; I, following my own rules, first asking for LT (yes), and a price quote. She gave me the "up to you"; she didn't like to discuss money. Yea, right, UNLESS she felt the "remuneration" insufficient the next morning (been there, done that). So asked again, which brought on the LONG story of "You've been here a long time, you know the prices..." Yes, I do; I know [b]MY[/b] prices, but not [b]HERS[/b]. I said 500, she said OK, and off we went; the "8 some" still milling around (more people, the coordination goes up exponentially; why I like to avoid).

On the way home, she mentioned that she never went for 500; 700 more to her liking. No problem; I could easily loop around, arriving back at the bar in 5 minutes. But I just kept silent, no more was mentioned, and I didn't take the "return loop".

No more mention of money. In the morning, did follow her statements from the previous night: just stick the money in her purse. Added a 50 for taxi fare; I will see her again.

So, long story finished: 'Snake does offer a wide selection, though there is an [i]upward[/i] price creep. Last night, no [i]discounts[/i] on Cyclone [i]closeouts[/i]. But for someone still fresh to the dxb scene, plenty of selections for a night's entertainment.

as predator4 pointed out, often it's not that there are too few job interviewees, but too many...

as a good introduction, i'd suggest an afternoon's tgit (astoria hotel, bur dubai, ground floor, catty-corner from lobby), say from 1pm to 3pm. don't expect any real stunners (but you can be surprised), 5's, 6's, and a lot of "who are their customers?", but just a relatively low key intro to a bar scene. banana's pizza, down the road towards the museum, makes a quite nice pizza.

or, try rattlesnake (metropolitian hotel, bur dubai, sheik zayed road), extreme left facing the hotel complex, walk through the patio area to the leftmost door, at midnight. like predator 4 said, so crowded it'll be impossible for you not to have a conversation with the wg next to you...

but that's just me. i don't like guided tours, preferring to buy a guidebook, read it, then carry along at my own pace with my own interests...

Bravo, I arrived in Imperial around 00:30 but I can’t say that I was to impressed ;-) alot more guys then WG’s and the ones who was still standing around when I got there was no real stunners.

Driving into work this morning, heard this on a news report. While stopped for gas, took the opportunity to read the actual article from the Gulf News. At a full read, not as disturbing as the news report, BUT... Certainly NOT good news either (bold my highlights).

Bit of déjà vu from early 2003: a similiar announcement about ending "infinite" renewals of visitor visas. Back then, [i]MY[/i] bar was the Cyclone. A number of [u]long term[/u] [i]familiar[/i] faces left. These were [u]successful[/u] wg's who could afford their own (sublet) apartments (no refund of the unused portion of the quarterly rent), furnished as a home (carpetbagger neighbors taking care of the furniture). They had never tried for the resident visa given the large wad of cash required, instead applying a couple nights' work [i]receipts[/i] each month for the monthly visa run. With those new rules, a number went home, never to return, perhaps enough cash in the bank, perhaps not.

So, IF these new rules are applied as stated, a girl can stay at most 9 months before having to return home for a month. Thing is, as everything here, the rules can be interpreted as the official wants, so "earlier" renewal denials MAY happen. And what about a girl who does take the enforced [i]vacation[/i] for a month? Will another 9 months be tolerated for someone with no discernable source of income?

So that fav who you've enjoyed for a LONG time... perhaps her next attempt at a visa run will be a return home, she already over the threshold.

And perhaps, for some, more [i]incentive[/i] to overstay. I'd expect more visa status checks outside bars. And a bar where too many overstayers are found? That's a business that causes the authorities trouble, and we all know what happens then...

Is the sky falling? No, but it's NOT blue sky either. [i]Uncertainty[/i] in a wg's career length translates to even more upward pressure on prices. She'll want to repay the debt to get here, her daily overhead, and start building that profit even more quickly.
