mongering Saturday 13 DEC
Hit Siluetas at 2 PM, but was told my ATF wouldn't be in until 4 PM.
Hit Felinas next door, but all the girls were busy.
So what to do with my gringo ass for two hours?
This is a problem. The last time I tried hanging out at the park in the area, 16 Septembre and Americas, some asshole started waving a knife around at me.
So I hit this sports bar, "Drink Team Juarez", on 16 Septembre and Col. Pido. Romero. It was like a corporate type of sports bar--all very modern. Big screen TV with some Euro soccer game broadcast in english. Beer is great for killing time. (my bottle of Coors Light was 28 pesos).
Went back to Siluetas at 4 PM and had a great time.
Only bad part was coming back over the bridge of the Americas.
"where you coming from?"
'Juarez' (is there somewhere else I could be coming from?)
"How long were you in Juarez?"
"lift up your pant legs"
"do you have another ID besides a passport?"
"what kind of work do you do?"
"that's it? How do you make money?"
Then he starting taking everything out of my backpack. Everything.
"Why do you have a thermos? Are you backpacking?"
Looks inside the thermos.
I guess there's some real interesting Kool-aid in there.
After I passed him, another CBP officer asked me to lift up my pant legs and looked inside my thermos again.
They did the same thing two weeks ago when I crossed, except for taking everything out of my backpack.
Maybe December is quota month.
CPB Always Harass Americanos
Coyote,
Coming back from Piedras Negras 6 months ago each Mexican entering the US received 30 seconds of attention at best. I had to show two forms of ID, one being my pass port which should have been good enough, they searched my back back, and gave me all kinds of attitude.
How long were you there? Two days.
Why were you there for two days? Shopping and vacation.
Are you bringing anything back with you? I'll know in about 2 weeks. :-)
What can you expect. These guys start at $35,000/ year, live in desolate south Texas, and get shot at. Oh well. I guess it comes with the territory.
Time for a New Driver License
i would still be more afraid of the policia than the "criminals". i have been robbed by the police before, never by the "criminals".
i go to juarez once or twice a week and have yet to hear a shot fired. of course, all my friends tell me i'm being stoopid, because the day they take a shot at me i won't get to hear it!
got pulled over by one of juarez's finest on my way back from a date, around midnight on tecnologico ave, northbound just past the overpass by plaza juarez.
i didn't bite and took my speeding ticket like a man. he kept my license and said i had three days to get it back by paying a 540-something fine downtown. i made sure the address was showing on the ticket and thanked him.
next day i went to tx dps in ep and paid $10 for a replacement license. f* 'em, they can eat my shorts and keep my license forever.
