Here's a question for the more technically minded.
I have a wireless hot spot device that can serve several devices, and I also have an unlocked AT&T (Sierra) dongle-style wireless modem that requires a SIM card to receive an Internet signal that can be used with the hot-spot. This combination should enable me to use my iPod touch as a Skype phone.
Question: In the DR is it possible to buy an Internet only SIM card? If so what is approximate cost per month? If not, is it possible to use the SIM card from any Internet enabled smart phone for the same purpose? Any ideas from anyone who has done this?

http://www.orange.com.do/web/guest/3g
Although the chica is now married and live in Canada." She keep contact". The card is still used as I receive from time to time e-mail from Orange stating $0. 00 balance due.
Took the time to look further to the Orange Cell. Web-site. As it could be of public interest decided to post instead of sending you a PM.
Below you will find the exact page for the usb connector. (the sim card is inside)
The one I bought was the ZTE MF637 USB. The one on top left. I payed around the amount stated $1, 590 pesos ($42. 00)
This is the cheaper model you can by for prepaid, the other one on the bottom right is $3, 790 Pesos. $99. 00.
As said these are pre-paid (prepago) , for the other one you would need to take a Multi-years contract like here.
Afterward either I was refilling it from Home, or the Chica was buying minutes by herself. She was residing in Cabarete,
Near Sosua. The connection was good even though her place was all cement walls. May be because there was a Orange.
Cell tower near her place, as her sister was using Claro (other cell company and the reception was shitty at the least)
On many occasion we were communicating via Video trough MSN,
If you go by yourself, they may refuse to sell it to you, as you are not DR citizen, nor reside there. But if you show to the.
Store with a Chica and claim that you are buying it for her, then they will usually sell it.

I have 3 months until my trip to Puerto Plata and Santo Domingo. I been studying Spanish off and on for over 4 months now. I know some words, basic questions, and comments. The only problem I'm having now is I can understand Spanish better when I read it than I listen to it or try speak it.
I know 3 months is not enough time to be able to have a decent conversation with a person from DR. Will I be able to get buy not knowing much Spanish? What Spanish words should I know?
Thanks

Thanks
You can learn a lot in three months. Just focus on basic conversational phrases. Reading, speaking, and understanding are three different skills that involve different organs and different parts of the brain, so no surprise there. The key is repetition, repetition, repetition. If you have an iPhone or IPod there is an excellent Google translator program. You can say something in English and it will write it and say it back to you in Spanish.
I had 8 weeks Spanish when I first went to the DR 8 years ago. Fairly fluent now. To start with:
20 most common adjectives: fast / slow, hot / cold, big / small, pretty / ugly etc.
20 most common verbs: go, come, stop, give, have, eat, drink, fetch, write, pay, fuck, suck, speak, call, listen, run, walk, etc.
12 most common prepositions: by, with, from, for, to, on, in, above, under, opposite, etc.
Most common colors: black, white, brown, red, blue, yellow, green, pink, blue, silver, blonde.
Numbers from 1 to 1000.
Please, thank you, excuse me, Hello, good morning, afternoon, night.
Food: hamburger, salad, french fries, beer, wine, coffee, eggs, bacon, toast, jam, pork, beef, chicken, bread, milk, ham, cheese. Or whatever you like to eat.
Nouns: I would not bother much with them as they are the least of your problems and you can always point or gesticulate. Many common nouns are similar to English, e. G, hotel, airport, taxi, penicillin, clinic, cafe, restaurant, tomatoes, bus, automobile, motorbike, bank, bathroom, kitchen, fridge, stove, pharmacy, pizza, spaghetti, cat, computer, radio, music, TV.
You can learn a few common words like perro (dog) dios (God), casa (house), mesa (table), agua (water), inodoro (toilet), calle (street), dinero (money) as these will probably come in useful.

Keep plugging away for 3 months. While speaking fluent Spanish would enhance your trip a lot, even a handful of words and phrases will help. I would give first priority to learning to speak (and more importantly recognize when spoken) the numerals. This could save you money and spare unpleasant misunderstandings over prices.

Thanks
Make sure you are at least learning latino spanish and NOT Spanish from Spain. Unfortunately Dominican Spanish is some of the worst sounding Spanish you can ever learn (along with Cuban and Puerto Rican) , it is full of slang and words that only exist on that island. Try asking any bar person for a gaseosa or telling a motoconcho driver to watch out for that Hueco, get ready for a dumbfounded look.

but i can't understand people from louisiana either.

Hello fellow mongers. I'm new to the international mongering scene and would like to plan my first mongering trip to the DR. I've noticed from the photo gallery that most of the girls are dark skinned. Is that a good representation of what kind of girls I can expect? It's just that my personal preference is lighter skinned girls. So I'm wondering if most girls there are darker skinned. Or are certain cities in the DR more populated with lighter / darker skinned girls? Which city in the DR would be the best to find thin lighter skinned girls, whether they be pro or non-pro?

Santiago is decent for lighter skinned girls but if that's your preference you won't be as in love with the place as those of us who prefer morenas and haitianas. I think the board is a good sample of DR chicas. You can also check out dominicancupid. DR is darker than CR, Columbia, Brazil, much darker than Argentina. Obviously eastern europe and Russia are the motherland for accessible chicas of that subspecies.
