This said, does Pattaya have anything for me that I can't find in BKK? I realise it's by the sea but I wouldn't really need beaches and sea. Are lower average prices worth going for? Have read loads of reports of both places but I'm not convinced it's worth my while after what I've experienced in BKK.

As luck would have it, I took a non pro Bkk girl I met on one of the dating sites to Pattaya this past weekend because she had a rare three days off from her regular job as a barista in one of those coffee and pastry shops and she likes hanging around the beach. BTW, for a casual, family-friendly, touristy but kind of nice afternoon with a girl during the day in Pattaya, check out the Pattaya Floating Market "theme park". It is a two separate baht-bus transport and about a 25 minute ride from Walking Street. Yes, it is very touristy, but kind of fun for a daytime "date" if you pop for the longboat ride, the goofy photo of you and her in traditional Thai garb and the very short zip line ride over the river. That's about 800 baht per person and you also get front-of-the-line entry to the rides. Comes in handy when the big tour buses full of Chinese and Japanese arrive, which they did while we were there. Otherwise, 100 baht gets you in for a walk around and that would be fine for most curiosity seekers or bored vacationers in Pattaya. Tons of food options to sample.

Anyway, over this weekend we passed by Palace quite often and at night I saw several of their girls sitting on stools outside the bar wearing cocktail type dresses. We didn't go inside but I have been in that bar before. Saturday early evening we sat at the ice cream shop next to Panda and watched many of their girls entering in street clothes before 9 PM. Have to say, in neither case did I see girls notably "hotter" than some of the girls who stand at the top of the escalator in Nana Plaza beckoning you into one of those Mandarin Go-Go bars. And those Nana Plaza girls are standing up and wearing bikinis rather than sitting on stools and wearing dresses. I suppose the real knock out stunners at Palace and Panda are inside the bars much earlier than when we were taking note of the arrivals and their door girls.

Cheers.[/QUOTE]My take: The few really good-looking girls in Pattaya are so rare and practically unseen by anyone who does not go into the 3-4 specific bars on Walking Street to find, woo, cajole, entertain, overpay and audition for them, their presence does nothing to either improve or maintain the standard of looks (and quality of service) for every other P4P girl in town. That is an element not talked about here really; the trickle down effect when there are tons more very hot girls in the P4P scene, as is the case in Bangkok but not really the case in Pattaya.

In such a more abundant hot girl environment, all the other levels of girls, the above average girls, the average girls and even the slightly below average girls have to up their game in some respect in order to believably compete with or at least respond to the influence of those top tier girls. Even if a punter does not proactively pursue "top girl stunners" in Bangkok, as I rarely do, the fact is in Bangkok the above average girls have to actually be better looking and must be prepared to offer something better than basic standard fare because there is every reason for them to believe a reasonably well presented 65 year old white guy has actually seen and is as likely to score one of the better looking girls as anyone else.

Not so in Pattaya. In Pattaya, there does not appear to be any easily observable top end standard which all other levels must acknowledge and respond to that is high enough to lift the standards of the girls who are not among the handful of "top" girls apparently found in 3-4 Walking Street go-go bars. Therefore, the above average girl in Pattaya can get away with being barely acceptable to many Bangkok punters who are generally happy with the looks and quality of service offered by that level of girl in Bangkok. Mind you, I'm not just talking about looks, but also about demeanor and quality of service offered or agreed to. The girls who presumably could be considered average for Pattaya are, imo, not acceptable under most circumstances.

And there are some girls who feel perfectly at home working the streets right next to the main farang red light areas of Pattaya who are a horror show. Women who would be considered below average Pattaya girls I guess. It is extremely rare that you would see working women quite that old and sad within visible proximity of Nana Plaza, Soi Cowboy or even Patpong. They wouldn't even bother showing up, it would be too humiliating for them and they couldn't earn enough to feed themselves.

We are all different and what I like about Pattaya above Bangkok is the ease of doing business. You can get anything you want between Soi 16 and Soi 1 with Baht buses running around the circuit for 24 hours. Some guys claim that the talent pool in Bangkok is superior and I do not think I'm qualified to make any different claims but everyone has different views on beauty anyhow. Like yourself I am an older guy, late 50's, but I only get away 1 to 2 times a year so I don't let shit music or excessive cigarette smoke put me off. I have scored some great online hook-ups in Pattaya and I have found some great girls in some of the beer bars too. What I like about the gogos in Pattaya is that most are hands on and I know if I am buying drinks the girls are more then accommodating for some light hearted man handling. I think the prices are better in Pattaya.

The only thing to do is to book a couple of days in Pattaya and if it is suited to you stay longer or if you do not like cut your loses and return to Bangkok. When you say summer are you in the northern or southern hemisphere? The weather now is good compared to the wet season which coincides with the northern summer.

Book Pattaya for 2 or 3 days early in your trip and leave yourself some flexibility in case you want to stay longer. As others have said, you might like Soi 6, which was my favorite part.
