Renting an apartment
I would really like to move to Rio in the next six months, I would be coming on a student visa and switching over to an investor Visa after a couple years. The problem I'm running into is that it seems like you have to have proof of employment and two Brazilian co-signers with the financial backing to cosign for you. I have enough assets to retire on and probably won't work for a year or two except for investment income. From what I'm reading it seems almost impossible to rent an apartment without cosigners and definitely without a job even if I have plenty of assets to pay my rent 100 times over. For those ex-pats living in Rio what did you do? There is the option of Airbnb but there's no way I'm doing that it's way overpriced for more than a few weeks stay. Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
Apply for a retirement visa. That'll get you CPF and RNE. Then find an apartment you like through QAndar. They have some insurance solutions instead of co-signers. VivaReal is also a good site. But. Rentals are in big demand right now, it's not easy.
Consider buying if you have the cash. Prices, especially when priced in USD are at generational lows. You get a Big Bang for your buck. But you need to pay cash, mortgage financing in Brazil is almost impossible for a foreigner.

L'Uomo
What I heard at the time was that it was as simple as not being able to renew the lease with the landlord.
I too miss L'Uomo. It had the hottest garotas and IMHO the best setup. And free food. I also really miss Balcony Bar. I actually liked it better than Helpe, great atmosphere even if you weren't there to monger (which I usually was). It was just so free and easy.
I like bossa nova at Beco das garrrafas in Copacabana and Vinicius in Ipanema.
I can second that. Great little club with first rate musicians. And they're opening a second venue right beside it. It's right across from Casablanca in the alley.

Raider Nation
Any Las Vegas Raiders fans here? I would love to establish a regular watering hole location to get together and watch the games. I guess Mab's is the obvious choice, but if there's enough of us we could prolly find an alternative.

Usually there is an old basketball game or something on it at night. I think they did show the superbowl though. You will probably be able to get some type of ESPN (Brazilian edition) in your Airbnb. I can just imagine the Brazilian equivalent of ISG and guys going to Texas asking where they can catch the Flamengos match.

Newbies first day in Rio
So I just finished my first day in Rio and I've already fallen in love with this city. In the morning I went for a walk along the beach then went to RioSul shopping center to get a sim card with data and grab some food. I headed to 4 x 4 in the afternoon, got there around 3 pm and made my way inside. The receptionist could tell it was my first time and explained the prices etc. I was quite nervous and excited, felt like being a kid in Disneyland seeing so many women with insane bodies casually walking around the place. I got a drink from the bar and sat down, a couple of girls came and talked to me but I had my eye on one girl I had seen with a crazy body so I asked her to come talk to me. Went with her to a room for an hour and my mind was blown. Amazing sex compared to the service I'm used to back home in London.
After that I spent a while chilling in the bar, got talking to a young girl who spoke very good English and looked a lot like Eliza Ibarra. We talked for quite a while and I kind of wanted to choose a different girl but I felt like I should go with this one after talking to her for so long even though she wasn't my usual type. How do you guys deal with letting a girl know you aren't that interested? Is it rude to keep talking casually to a girl if you prefer to go with a different girl? Anyway I had a fun 30 minutes with her then left around 8 pm. The time went so fast I didn't realize I was there almost 5 hours.
Tomorrow I think I will check out one or two Prives. Anyone got a good recommendation for a newbie? I've heard good things about Dark Room so may check that out. If the rest of my stay here is as much fun as my first day, I will definitely be coming back ASAP!
The only negative thing so far was I got scammed for 150 reals by a taxi driver who took me from the airport to the hotel. It's my own fault for not using Uber, I'll only use Uber from now on for the rest of the trip.
Also I wish I had spent more time learning some Portuguese before coming out!

American Football
Does Mabs show all the American football games? Mabs is prolly the only place open and they're only set up to show 2 or 3 games. Redzone might be an option. Raiders games are mostly late start because they are Western time zone. Mud Bug was great but closed during the pandemic.

If a girl I am attracted to is cool hanging out, I feel I am better off taking her to the cabine. Certainly my eyes might wonder around the termas, but having already established rapport is a very good thing. If you see a hot girl after you come back from a session, you can always strike up a conversation and get her phone number.
There are various ways to lose a clingy termas girl. There are several places that they are not allowed. Just get up and say you want to look around. Or say you are going to the locker room.

Dark Room is a great place, as are Onix, Bel Prazer, Massagem Tijuca and many others. Check this forum for reviews or better yet gparena.net to find some universally praised "terapistas".
150 from GIG is on a high side if your base is in Copa. I think it should be about 70-80 or something like that. Use metered cabs when you can't get Uber and keep in mind that 100-real bills are similar to 2 reals, and they're good at switching. Most cabbies in Rio are fine, but some rotten apples here and there.

Newbie day 2 report
Thanks for the suggestions below, I will probably check out Onix tomorrow. Today I started off with a visit to DarkRoom around 3 pm. Thankfully I had written down directions from this thread otherwise I would have struggled to find it. I was a bit disappointed with the lineup and I only liked one of the girls out of 5 - a young dark skinned black girl with a pretty face and braces. The room was pretty small and the bathroom very small but for are $150 for 1 hour with a cute girl the value is very good.
After DarkRoom I went to 4 x4 again, spent some time at the bar and eventually chose a dark skinned girl with short hair, tattoos and a big natural butt. The kind of girl you might see in a rap video. I forgot to ask about services beforehand and in the room she was saying she would only do BBBJ with a condom which was super disappointing but luckily she changed her mind and did it without anyway. I had a good time with her but my first session yesterday was even better. I think I'll try to take a bit more time between sessions in future so I have more stamina for the second one.
The first two days have been a blur but Rio has definitely exceeded my expectations so far!

I would have been sitting across from you for a while talking to a morena. I sessioned with Sofia then Izabel, both ok but nothing to write home about. I did have my eye on a mulata with a cracking body. Next time. As usual, I can't have manners and just go home, so I went to Dolce Vita in Copa. Help disco is badly missed, but I picked up 2 little spinner friends from the north of Brazil and went for a threesome in the Lido motel. Great night. Enjoy the rest of your stay!
