These are some variables the determine the total cost. I think out of pocket cost is different for each person. One has to look at the number to see if it makes sense. The last time I was there 20 years ago, I checked into my hotel and walked a couple of blocks to Mabs. A girl approached me almost immediately and asked if I wanted to hook up. We negotiated 250 and I thought she was talking Reals so I said "sure". I had a girl in my room one hour after arriving in Rio but before we did anything I thought I should verify the amount in Reals rather than dollars.

I found out she was quoting dollars. So I had to renegotiate. I found out that the girls try to negotiate in dollars because I am a gringo. Do they still do that today?

Back then it was 3. 5 are per dollar. Now it's 5. 24 are per dollar.

If it were optional everyone would choose not to pay it and the little dodge the OP suggested to avoid paying it would not be necessary. So, I don't think the bar is aware of what he is doing, but they will catch on sooner or later. You can be sure of that.

I don't employ the get her phone number 1st strategy for the simple reason that I go to termas and boates to get laid not to pick up phone numbers. But after an initial in-house session, I will exchange whatsapp numbers with the girls I really like.
