Thanks for the report mate. I'll be in Rio over carnival and have no idea what to expect. I'm an avid clubber and like to party and mingle with some local chicas till I bump into a non-pro or semi-pro.
I have totally no idea what to expect during these wild carnival nights, neither knowing where to go in terms of clubbing. Based on your review, I don't think Help would be my kind of place. Could be different over carnival ?

I was browsing this fantastic forum but could'nt find the related information so far.
I'm traveling solo, so safety would matters. Anyone can get me some info where to go after midnight during carnival ? I don't mind to pay entrance fee but don't want to break my bank neither.

Oh yes, I'll be heading to Buzios for a couple more nights too on feb 17. Any similar recommondations are welcome too.

I dont know if it was in this section or the "Living in Rio" section. But a few guys on here mentioned that Rio has an open sewer system, that the human waste flows directly into their oceans. I was talking to a brasilian who lives here in the states now about this, she swears that this is not true. She said the human waste does not flow into Copa and Ipenema like some of you guys have said. She said "o nome da empresa que fas tratamento nos esgotos em copa é SEDAE"

She laughed and said "you are crazy if you think the shit goes right from our toilets straight into the ocean! Of course we have treament plants just like you have here in the states!!"


So just who is right? Does their waste go into the ocean like a number of guys on here have said or she correct that they have a sewer treatment center just like we have here in any major city?

Your friend is right. However, the storm drain systems empty into the ocean unfiltered. I won't argue with someone who claims they saw a floater in the water but there could be many turd sources besides the sewer system for their origin. ;(
