Not a very good idea taking paisas to the coast. It's a whole lot better and wiser enjoying each region's own delights: paisas in the mountain, costenas in the coast. You'll end up saving your wallet unnecesary plane tickets, and instead will be able to have a taste of variety.

While my experience in Medellin is limited, I believe it's much easier to find a good hooker to spend several days with in Cartagena. There are a lot of freelancers at LDV in Cartagena that are from other cities in Colombia. So, as Manizales says, they don't have to go home at night, or worry about family and friends seeing them out around town with older gringo pooners.

This is my first post and I hope this is the right place, if not I apologize in advance. I am an expat and recently moved to Medellin for a few months. I speak decent but not fluent Spanish. I have never done any hobbying here.

I live within walking distance of several casas (near Laureles) and I did some walk-bys and you would never guess in a thousand years that any of these places are casas. So I have been intimidated to try one. I thought they were legal in Colombia? Why are the casas so secretive?

I have a lot of experience in Thailand and Philippines, and it is just totally different here.

Especially the Spaniards, are throwing money around "enjoying their vacations" and as a result, there are girls now boasting that they won't even consider for going for less than $200/ hour. Ha!

Many of these girls have more money in the bank than you do and will still hit you up for cab fare.

Be polite, be fair, but most importantly, be smart!

There are a host of idiots throwing money at these girls in a host of ways.

I've heard the girls talk about it myself. They LAUGH at them and go work them for more $.

Pay the going rate. No more.

And yes we know, where Medellin is. Maybe the way I worded it, meant to say would travel to a beach. Which one, I, m not sure, I hear Cartagena is a bit of a zoo. What about out the Pacific side?

We are glad to hear us old dicks will not be discriminated and don't worry we are hip enough not to be stupid and pay too much and blow it for you locals.

We plan to base out of the for a few months. So will probably try to rent a nice 2-3 bdrm apartment.

The Pacific side? That would be Buenaventura but I would not stay there unless you want problems. One of the most dangerous cities in Colombia right now! If you were looking for somewhere a little more laid back you might want to try Santa Marta. Not too far from Cartagena. Maybe 2-3 hours away and close to Barranquilla.

Please know that that girl, no matter how nice she appears, is, and will be spotted as a hooker immediately and the guy a monger sex tourist.

Ironic but the same situation but the old man is Colombian seems to not draw attention. Try to stay out of public with that. Thank you!

PD: If you are bringing your own and wish to arrive on the beach and check into a hotel with proven women in tow possibly hit San Andres or Santa Marta, more laid back, less crap. Looking to pick up while you are there? Cartagena.

thru the door, they are always happy to see you (no guys, no service, no dough).

I would reckon two main reasons, first, as was posted, is that Colombia is a very Catholic country, and they don't want it flaunted, second, and somewhat at cross-purposes with the first, is the high level of crime in Medellin relative to Thailand. While everybody probably knows approximately where the casas are, by posting big signs I think they would be asking for serious trouble, for the owners and the girls. It has always been easy for me to find the places, but having a little Spanish can really help, if you do find the wrong address.
