Hi everyone,

This is my first post and I wanted to start by thanking all of your for the great information I have enjoyed! I am preparing to make Bangkok my home and although it is a dream come true, it also means that I will never again be able to enjoy all that the city has to offer with anonymity. I will have to be very careful regarding where I am seen due to my employment and exposure. I have begun to think critically about how to continue the hobby with as little risk as possible. Cowboy, known oilies and the like are unfortunately out. I have found some fun FS times on my travels with the regular massage shops but of course that is hit and miss and it kind of zaps the fun when you must be quiet on a small mat. Is there a scene that fits the bill where one can go during the day (nights are out too unfortunately) with very little risk of being seen. A more local area would very much fit the bill. I must watch out for Farang eyes who might know who I am.

Thailand is developing. There are plenty of employment options. For decades now women in Issan have been having smaller and smaller families. Bangkok is still a great destination; I expect it still will be in 5 years; and I expect in 5 years guys will be complaining that it is not as good as it was 5 years ago.

When I was a kid my father used to feed me this crap about it was better when he was growing up. He was growing up in the fucking 1930s during the USA depression! He also told me sometimes he'd eat green beans three meals a day five days a week and feel fortunate his family had a garden so they had food to eat. Right, it sure sounds like it was better when he was growing up. Demos, floods and in general an unruly gvm ofcourse have brought visitors down atleast into BKK itself). The prices in BHT have been almost the same. For my earlier monger hotel Grand President a deluxe suite costed 2200 incl taxes and still do today (is it more expensive or cheaper today relatively speaking?). For the girls I started with picking a FL girl from Thermae if I remember correctly and I gave her 3K back then and I still do pay the girls 3k in general for real LT play. I pick from every known FL nightclub there is but ofcourse staying many times over the years in Grand President most of my picks have come from Climax. Still 3k compensation. I NEVER discuss price upfront just a hand out when they leave and I have yet, as far as I remember, to see a girl have been unhappy.

Earlier years Spasso in Hyatt Erewan was a typical 5K LT pickup place. Girls pimping themself more up in coctail dresses. The latest years easy to have girls here for 3 to 4K? Have it become cheaper or more expensive? The number and quality of girls same same from my observation. Even had 2 FL`s from spasso for 6K (gave them 3 each).

Once again maby the girls under the barfinesystem one way or another have become more expensive, well it does no affect me as if I meet girls operating in this scene I meet them when they change into the FL scene. Even btls of vodka I think run in the same pricerange than I first started to come here (in the clubs that is).

I am not arguing that in general BKK have become more expensive (I would not have a clue regarding lets say typical living expenses as that does not realy affect me either since I am so lucky I can come and go as I like). What is important to me when in BKK are hotels, taxies, booze, western food, Kamagra and FL thai girls and prices here are still surprisingly cheap.

Big deal.

You may be right about the hotels; and the good news is there is about to be another round of hotel development in Bangkok and Pattaya. So downward pressure on prices will continue.

I think long time expats and sex tourists have different perspectives. Expats live in BKK and experience the rising cost of living as the standard of living of the average Thai improves. We live in relatively expensive parts of the world, Northern Europe and North America. We fly in, fuck and fly out. Most things in Bangkok seem cheap to us.

I had a great time in December and can't wait until June and my next visit; and every visit I try to stretch out longer and make more time for mongering. Frankly, I don't recall ever hearing a first time sex tourist complain about Bangkok's P4P scene. In December I was having a drink at Dr BJ's Salon waiting to go upstairs and bang a consultant in the VIP room. Two young guys, first time visitors, had just finished getting a BJ and were enjoying a drink. They had grins that stretched from one ear to the other. Both emphatically said they found Bangkok's sex scene to be even better than they expected.

There has been such a war on masculinity in this country's schools that it's frightening. When they finally graduate from these Stalinist indoctrination camps, err, schools, they have been completely emasculated. I suspect they all think the sun shines out of some radical lesbian's ass.

Not to be content with fucking up the USA, these dragons have been polluting all of the Western world. While Thailand has a different evolutionary history than the west, I fear that the same poison is creeping into Thai society as well. Maybe not. But the times they are a'changin'.

In my travels I've always preferred, whenever possible, to conduct nocturnal operations as the locals might. Being a furriner you can't do that 100. Having said that, I won't be sorry to see the go-gos, and such garishness, go away. I've long thought that BKK suffered from a long-running Vietnam War hangover. The in-your-face bars, massage venues, etc, are 1970s relics. I'm surprised the Thais have put up with them as long as they have. I truly think their days are numbered.

Oh, and ditto on the PTY demos. Frightening.

Comparing Bangkok to the US or any other destination is disingenuous, especially for a resident. We are comparing the scene and costs from a decade ago to the scene now in Bangkok, and it is drastically different. As a resident for over 14 years I can tell you that it is easily 100% more expensive to live her than it was in '99 and I am being conservative. Yes, that takes the weak dollar into account as well. Beer in gogos was 80 baht, girls 500-1000 baht, BF in Cowboy bars 400 baht, with a 50% discount card two could eat at the JW Marriot buffet for 12. 50 US per person. Yep 1k baht out the door for 2. 111++? You could stay at the Landmark for well less than 100 USD in 99. Could get a great hotel for 1k a night in BKK. BKK was cheap, user friendly and fun. I still have a great time here, just not in the P4P scene. To throw in a comparison, I doubt it is 100% more expensive to live in a US or European city when compared with 14 years ago.

Most of the residents that I know don't frequent gogos or discos so much and many of the girls that work in those establishments aren't real fond of locals who speak the language. We are just not easy marks. In the "good ole days" the majority of gals wanted one thing, a dude to take care of them. Now most can bank more not having a boyfriend or husband. Good on 'them, but not so good for us.

Don't get me wrong, I like many things about the rampant development (boutique coffee roasters, expanding Indie music scene, etc) , I still choose to live here, but as a mongering destination, maybe for the tourist and the occasional visitor it is ok, but for the long term resident, meh is about the best I can muster.

Tourists and residents have different requirements. Nothing wrong with either. I have been both. If you were living here your perspective would change a bit I think.

See the part of my earlier post (above) in a reply to Skogis. I was following up on a Skogis post and writing strictly from the perspective of a tourist.

We also tend to come here with our Western perspective on development. Things have changed more in Thailand in the 14 years I have been here than they have changed in 30 back home in D / FW, TX. We just don't expect for it to change that fast.

Many things in Thailand are more expensive then they are in the US. Alcohol for one, western food and good coffee for another. Yes, hotels are cheaper than major cities in the US, but that really has no effect on the expat. Quality clothing is way more expensive in Thailand, as are cars and gasoline. Being in BKK I own a motorbike not a car, but if I ever move out of BKK a car will be needed.

Rents, well that depends. Do you want to live in a place that is new and western standard? Well, for a one bedroom you are looking at a minimum of 25k baht, which is about 100% more than what it was 10 years ago.

Local food is cheap and the biggie, so is health insurance. I pay about 1100 USD per year for a major med policy that covers up to 1 mil US per year. At almost 50 years old, that is a great deal.

Anyone lucky enough to find a place to live they love is eventually going to be disappointed, because it will change. Developing countries in particular can change very fast.

So I sympathize with the expats living in Bangkok; and because I'm seriously considering moving to Thailand in the next few years I pay close attention to what you are saying. You fight and struggle in your native land. Your lucky enough to escape and find yourself in Valhalla, only to watch it disappear due to forces beyond your control.
