None of the advice you have been offered on some of the negatives is meant for you to take it as automatic. As if you WILL experience / observe these things. Or all chicas / girls operate and think the same. That is not how you should embrace this feedback. Granted you may not have received a comprehensive list, of precautionary measures. A lot of things will depend on you getting there and figuring some things out for yourself. It's a good thing to have an experienced wing man (of an area) to hang with.

For me, having traveled Asia for a long time, two things stand out in favor of the DR (not necessarily Sosua) - the proximity of its geography and ease of the language. The risk one is speaking of is much higher in the land I live (both the legal hazards and health) - if one cannot handle Sosua, one needs to take a second look at oneself or as some do, travel in group. I find Colombian chicas more beautiful than Dominicans, however, that's a matter of taste. Nevertheless, the better service of the Colombians is a matter of fact and not opinion in my books. For me, that makes Colombia a much better destination for mongering. Price wise I think both countries are about the same although Colombia might be a little cheaper being further from the US (except airfare of course). I find the DR to be a safer destination than Colombia, though, but apart from that I would rate the livability of both destinations as equal.

This to me is a big thing as anyone can go to a casa or pick up someone plying her trade on the street / bar.

The second question: what aspect of safety in Colombia is something that you are not comfortable with vis a vis the D. R?

Reading forums like this, it is funny how opinions can change so quickly.

I believe it was on the old WSG back in the 90's, after mongers had discovered Colombia, the popular opinion was that Brazil was a rip-off and Colombia was now the place to be in South America. Not long ago here on the Colombian forums, some posters were opining that Colombian girls were inferior and Brazil is where the best women and best service is to be found.

Methinks this might not be a matter of fact, but merely subjective after all. Myself, I loved the Colombian girls and would like to go back for another poke at them. But, in bed they were the least exciting that I've encountered. Only one of the four I sessioned with, would allow kissing and the the blowjobs were always covered except in one instance.

The German freelancers I had experienced last year had a level of professionalism in regards to service that made them worth the premium. The claim that chicas in Colombia are more attractive than Domicanas often seems to come down to saying that they are on average lighter skinned, or are the black Colombian girls also more attractive?

Though my standard mode of dress is casual, I do wear quality brand clothing and I am typically well groomed. I try to look presentable even when approaching working girls, because I know how it can affect pricing and service based on your desirability as a male. So, how can I blend into the DR? Or is there a standard, ex-pat look I can adopt that says "I live here"?

When I'm in the DR I walk around cities at night with no concerns. I have walked Medellin at night but my spidy sense tingles and word on the Medellin forum is that El Centro at night is dangerous.

Very good question re black Colombians vs black Dominicans, I have sessioned perhaps a hundred times more black Dominicans than black Colombians so I don't think I can give a helpful answer.

Regarding looks my ratings are (1) Argentinians, (2) Brazilians and (3) Colombians. In German FKKs I get the best service from the German providers. I have been less impressed with the Thais than you have but I have a great time in Thailand nonetheless. The best GFE is in the Philippines.

You always be a gringo and as such a source of revenue for the locals. Don't worry about fitting in with the natives, you will be more attractive by being different and proud of it. Be discrete, don't bring unnecessary attention to yourself, don't engage in conversation with street people or vendors, don't get involved in any situation that does not directly concerns you, don't drink too much if alone, be careful with your valuables and with what you eat and you will be ok. If you are only in for a short time then SW are a must but if your stay is for 21 days or more, you should try to develop ties with girls working in bars, stores. Many are easy to get and much better as sex partners. Good luck.

You can come off the plane decked out in flourescent cruisewear looking like Rodney Dangerfield in Caddy Shack, wearing a big Rolex, or you can look like the almost invisible expats shopping with their local wives in La Sirena.

Something about being comfortable in your own skin and your surroundings. It has a calming effect. Hard to describe.

I'm from NYC, and we have plenty of Colombian and Dominican chicas from different parts of their respective countries, and I don't see how Colombians are any better looking. Maybe if you're talking about Sosua chicas vs Medellin chicas, but that would not be a fair comparison. Medellin is a city which is widely considered to have the best looking women in Colombia, whereas Sosua is a small town full of very poverty-stricken women trying to make a living from prostitution. I can name like 50 towns in DR with better looking women than Sosua.

You don't give yourself much credit as a man who should be aware or knowledgeable of women's behavior without having to be personally interested in them or involved with them. Much of what I learned did not come primarily from personal experience, but from observation, and sharing intel with other men and their observations. Very few men you meet there have interesting insights into their own behavior, let alone that of others.
