Ah, but Singapore is planning to start a Songkhran festival, as are other cities in the region, and Thailand is crying foul!
Singapore is planning a Songkran but apparently without water. At least the world will know there is nothing fake about Singapore.
Hey guys,
Looking to head to BKK for a short fun break over the Songkran break. Was just wondering how the New Year affects the bars in places like Soi Cowboy or Nana and if the various massage parlours / soapies are open or closed or short staffed if lots of people go to their hometowns or provinces during the holiday?
I've tried to RTFF but can't seem to find much on Songkran. Apologies if this question was brought up earlier.
Thanks and much appreciated,
AF
Songkran in Soi Cowboy is a riot. I was there two years ago and had lots of fun, but it is not the best moment for mongering. There are still enough girls in the bars and MPs but they are in a festive mood and not really looking for work.
Hi,
I have an old cell with the old type of large SIM card.
I am looking to purchase a prepaid SIM card. Questions are: where can I find cheap SIM prepaid cards? Which operator is the best in BKK?
Thanks!
/Kirsia
You can buy SIM cards from any of the major operators (AIS, DTAC, and so on) in the airport. They have all sizes of SIMs. I have used DTAC and it works fine, I am sure the other ones do too.
I return to Thailand for Easter, fortunately just missing the "fun" for Songran. Keep all you important valuables in plastic bags with seals against the water drenching. Watch out for flying ice. Its hard. Watch out for dirty water. Stay away from the crazy areas.
In a few words. Stay home! LOL
Singapore is planning a Songkran but apparently without water. At least the world will know there is nothing fake about Singapore.
Knowing what Singapore is like, after having lived there for 4 years, I'm sure the festival will be located in a nice, controlled area, like the grand prix pits.
Songkran, or Pei Mei in Laos, is fun to do once, after that it's a bit of a pain. It's hopeless if you are actually working there and they start throwing water around a day or 2 early. A wet suit is not a good look for a business meeting.

At the arrival terminal, BTW doors 5-9 are kiosks for 3-4 providers. You can get a 7 day plan with 2gb and B100 of voice / text for B$300 and then top off; there are also 30 days plans. They are super efficient and you'll be done in 10 minutes. I've used AIS and Trucall prepaids, about same service / coverage.

Songkran
Just came across this photo on Wiki and it reminded me of why I avoid Thailand during Songkran. How much fun is this, eh?
nana hotel may have been a good hotel once (perhaps during the vietnam war, when gis did their r&r here?) but it is now long past its prime. unless of course you like fluorescent lights, glacial airco, windows with a view on a blind concrete wall and furniture that is still the original one when the hotel was built. and they try to get you in the hotel taxi to the airport at prices at least 3 times the metered taxi price.
aircon has 4 speeds at your control. low, medium, high & off.
in many visits only once did i ever get the view of a wall. could have asked for & recieved a room with a more pleasant view, if it mattered.
bed very comfortable. not like the typical hard asian mattress.
furniture. nice if you like the classical wood look.
tv. flat screen. 20 or so channels, including english speaking bbc, sports, movies, news.
in room safe. bolted solidly to the wall. easy to use with pin or cc.
internet. excellent wifi in room & throughout the hotel. free 30 minutes daily. various plans for more time, like 450 baht for 3 days, maximum use 24 hours within that period.
laundry service. fast, efficient, very cheap.
room service. menu in room, hot food delivered to your door.
security guards at the elevator entrance, taking identification cards.
taxi to airport. posted price 500 baht. a step up in safety, comfort & class from typical roadside pickups. feel free to negotiate for a lower price. no obligation to use the hotel taxis, of course. it is entirely up to you.
location. across the street from nep. within 5 minutes walk to 3 seven eleven stores, pharmacies, street walkers & shops galore. ten minutes to 2 supermarkets & skytrain.
have their own website:

"be sure to ask for a refurbished room facing the sukhumvit side of the building to get a good view of the city."
"and the hotel is full of old men from europe with thai girls. it is awful!"
I prefer the Majestic Grande tucked away at the corner right across from Annies. I have stayed at a couple of 5 star hotels which don't even match up to this little gem. Ala JW Mariott.
To name just one.
The location is perfect and private and most girls love the hotel and I noticed some of the girls I picked from the Nana Area seems to chit. Chat with the door staff which suggested to me they know each other. Many girls also comment on their breakfast service so its a good place to entice a LT as it seems like a place they enjoying going to and being at.
This is my go to place in BKK when mongering. Unless I feel like splurging on a true luxury hotel experience. But mongering in such venues is not as "free"
Thanks for the recommendation. Am planning to stay here in a few months for the first time. Hope being back on Soi 2 isn't too far for fun. I've mainly been a NEP oriented person. I have walked down to Terminal 21 for food (sushi!) but not to Cowboy. Looking forward to checking out the hotel.

Kasalong
i checked out the new bj bar kasalong today. to get there you go down soi 8, turn down a subsoi to get to [CodeWord901]'s, keep walking past [CodeWord901]'s and go around the corner. it's about 40 meters past [CodeWord901]'s. blowjobs are 700 baht. upstairs there are 4 rooms, and down the hall and around the corner is another wing with 2 more rooms. 6 rooms total. my room had a couch and a sink. service was good.
there were around 6 or 7 girls working during day shift when i visited. 1 or 2 were fairly old (40s or so?) , but the others looked to be in their 20's. one of the younger ladies was actually pretty cute. also there was an old lady, not in uniform, who seemed to be just hanging out. so yes, i can confirm what the other report said about there being "grandmas", but they didn't outnumber the younger working girls.
the main bar room itself had a nice atmosphere, plenty of seats, and a pool table. there's a hotel and a coffee shop across the street and the coffee shop delivers food to kasalong. i checked out the menu and saw lots of western food and thai dishes with most costing under 100 baht.
overall, the place is pleasant, but not exceptional. they've only been open a few weeks and, as you might expect, they don't have many customers yet. my lady told me i was her first customer all week and went out of her way to please. shift change happens at 6 pm, so i'd show up around 6 pm if you want to see as many girls from both shifts as possible.

Return to Bacarra.
had a "date" set up with a cutie from january 2013 that i kept in touch with. in my top 10 category. when i met her in 2013 she had just started work. very cute, innocent, and eager to learn. i was curious to see what a year plus had done to her. i was supposed to meet her at 12 but i took a nap at around 8 and we all know how that goes. it's been a fast and furious month. i finally get there around 1:30 and it's still hopping. i didn't really check out the 1st floor as it's not to my liking. the second floor is usually less crowded or at least that's my experience. she automatically spots me and is over in a second. we chit chat but her english is not much better than before. we have a couple of drinks and i decide to bar-fine her.
she does a little of the 'buy my friend, sister, cousin, a drink" thing and i play along with it. no big deal but that's a change from last time. she's obviously learned a lot. we taxi back to the hotel and settle in for the night. she has changed quite a bit. gone is the innocence and eagerness. replaced with the usual bg mentality. get as much as you can for the least amount of effort. we do our business, but she no longer is the loving little thing she used to be. kissing is minimal, bj the same. i'm a little miffed and tell her she can leave if she doesn't enjoy being here. well she erupts in tears. i take a few minutes to sooth her and we go back about our business. she's a little more willing but nothing like last year. oh well. if she wasn't a pretty as she is i would have let her go but i would have enjoyed fucking her if she were a starfish.
i assumed that a little over a year would have changed her but was a little surprised as we had a bit of history. last time i bar-fined her for 5 days in a row so i thought that might make a difference. not saying that the experience was bad, but nothing like before. i'd rate the experience a 7 on bar girl scale. my overall experience with bar girls has been bad this trip other than mikati but i'm sure it's that i know the club owner, so the girls tend to be well behaved.
bar-fine was 600 plus two drinks. drinks pricier than in pattaya but that's understandable. the quality is much better here. and this is a big city. there tend to be more businessmen mongers as well. big difference between the bacarra here and the one in pattaya. st appears to be 2500 and lt between 4-5000. i've hear that crazy house has somewhat set the rate in soi cowboy. will take a peek at that tonight.
as i've said before: this is my experience save me the "you're ruining the market" or any other negatives. if you have something helpful and positive to say relating to your experiences please do. otherwise have some keyboard restraint. this place can easily erupt into a pissing match and it's tiring and totally non-constructive. a lot of guys that used to post good field reports stopped because of it. if you can't help yourself please do it in pm to keep the forum free of the nonsense.

Dr BJ revisited.
Sleep a little after breakfast and after waking gave the good Dr. A text. He replies "I'm at the bar now." I got ready and headed to 7/1. Spent a good part of the afternoon solving the worlds problems with the Doc. Good guy to chat with. Knowledgable and intelligent. And he's got a good sense of what's happening in town. He also has a good understanding of the bar girl mentality. Lot's of laughs around that one. I wasn't going to partake but that would be the equivelant of setting down a big juicy t-bone in front of a pit bull and telling him to "stay" as you walked out the room. Yeah right!
The girls do a line up and I'm thinking this is crazy, I'll never get off as I usually don't just from a BJ. I pick one of the girls. We get a drink and up we go. She does the compulsory wash and inspection and apparently I'm good to go. She sits me down and then proceeds to do her business. She's very good, building excitement with a lot of great tongue until I can't stand it anymore. She finally takes me in her mouth and proceeds to give me a AAA BJ. After a good five minutes I'm ready to pop and she says "no not yet, wait." Hmmm, that's a new one. Five more minutes of great sucking and she decides it's time. I was helpless to do anything about that. Very nice! A little chit chat and I find out she's from Laos. Maybe I need to add Laos to my next itinerary. Especially if they all give head like that. She also has two kids and you would never know it from her body. She pulls up her dress to show me her perfect belly. She's very proud of it.
Doc, I took a picture. I hope you don't mind. This sight has always made me laugh.
Maybe I need to add Laos to my next itinerary.
There's not much of a scene there these days. I lived there between 99 and 02 and went back for the first time about 3 years ago. Been back several times since but there isn't much happening, lots of LB's cruizing the street. My trips were pretty short but I went to most places given in the Laos forum but it was a bit disappointing. Maybe they're all in Nong Khai.
