If you just create an account and start giving too many friend requests, there are chances that you will blocked from the platform. And regarding privacy, if you are going to upload your real photos, make sure those photos are publicly available to give element of future deniability. While signing up, don't give your mobile number at any cost and create a new email address for sign up. Face regonition is not used for giving friend requests. Its usually your browser login location and history, your phone number and email contacts that they use to track you. And also avoid FB and Messenger apps on your mobile phone.

I strolled through this area last Saturday evening and it was just getting started, but there were already a dozen or so chicas scattered around the area, in doorways and at the local bars. It also appeared that there was one actual strip club, although it was too early in the day to verify that. I'll return at some point and post a better report.

I know people have varying opinions about this, but I use a credit card quite often when I am in MDE, particularly at restaurants and store (because I get points and there is no international exchange fee). Maybe this has been posted before or is common knowledge, but very recently I have noticed more restaurants and businesses in Medellin that (should) give the option of paying in COP or USD. Sometimes they ask and sometimes they just assume because you are a gringo, you want to pay in USD (which, for me, is not true because the exchange rate is not as good that way). I might expect this type of option in Lleras or at a hotel in Poblado, but I stay in Laureles and was given this option at Frisby chicken and Subway (where I have my thanksgiving turkey sub! So just a head's up. If you use a credit card and want to be billed in COP, just be sure to keep an eye out.

Make sure to be billed ok cop and your CC company will give the best exchange rate.

They are ripping you off, those fuckin bastards.

When they charge you in US dollars (if your credit card is based in the US), their credit card processor charges you 3.5% extra. Even if you have a lousy credit card that charges you the foreign transaction charge, it's only 3.0%.

Most credit card processor gives the business the option to charge their customer in US dollar or the local currency. If they charge you in US dollar, I believe they don't get charged the 3% Visa / Mastercard fee.

From my personal experiences, they usually charge you in COP when not asking, but sometimes they charge in US dollar. That irritates me. I got tired of asking them to charge me in COP, but now I try to tell them to charge me in COP.

Some business owners will ask their employee to charge in US dollars. But most of the time, I think it's just ignorance of the employee.

I have saved a great deal time and money reading this forum. Hoping this trip report will help someone also.

Arrived from CTG with buddy Fri Nov 9 and paid the 70 K posted rate 70 K for cab ride to El Poblado. Rented apt on 23rd floor of a 24-HR guarded building about 7 min walk from Parque Lleras in a quiet residential area. Left for a recon of the area and at the building guard gate had a chat and intro with the security guards. Slipped each a 10 K much to their delight. I try to stay in places where 24 HR guards are on duty even if the place isn't chica friendly. The small tip makes many of the hassles disappear.

Had a late lunch, exchanged cash at 2890 COP for 1 USD and rested. Many guys use ATM to get cash but credit cards are accepted in almost all restaurants with the exch rate north of 3150 COP for all transactions (about 10% better). We used the cash for mongering and taxi fares mostly.

At 10:00 back at Parque Lleras and the place is hopping with chics and partygoers. Had a few beers at a club overlooking the action and saw many beautiful talents. Had heard paisas are gorgeous and now witnessing it firsthand. All the clubs and restaurants had touts. Went to Gusto, Tabu (Taboo? And a couple of others. They all had a variety of chicas props and semi-pros if there's such a thing, but getting fleeced on beer and liquor just to meet hoes didn't sit well with either of us. I had a list of at least a dozen girls I had lined up from Colombiancupid so started to contact them. Most wanted to meet later that weekend. Chatted up several 8's and a couple 9's during our walk and they ranged from 250 K to 300 k so we passed. It was still early around midnight & no incentive to lower the rate. Observations which many of you probably already know:

-Use no foreign transaction fee credit cards for restaurants and you get the best exchange rate. A few restaurants add a surcharge for CC use but the menu should state it.

-No need for Colombia Cupid, FB, or other online methods unless your trip is sufficiently long. I wasted much time chatting up CC girls but the immediate on ground talent appeared just as good. Certainly a few gems can be found online but they consume effort and time and the outcome is not any more certain. My feeling is that the online ones are no more or less pro or semi-pro than what you might find in any of the bars.

-Most if not all of the high-end regular apartments prohibit escorts, loud parties, or drug use. However, friendliness and taking care of the security guards has tangible benefits. Just don't abuse the rules.

-Strip joints were a hit and miss, some cuties and not many beauties. Also be cautious of your surroundings.

-El Poblado seems to be where the new money is. Saw Ferrari, Hummer limos, Audi R8, Benz and beammers mostly Bogota plates. Also explains why some chicas wanted 400 K for an hour, albeit 9's. As a point of comparison, a SW in centro told my buddy 30 K.

-Taxis and metro are cheap and efficient. Make sure driver turns on the taxi meter, small screen right by the rearview mirror. Minimum fare is 5 K.

When I arrive at customs in Medellin, I usually have 2 or 3 liter bottles of alcohol.

Whats the most anyone has brought into Colombia without hassle? Please specify when it was.

On various information sites, I keep seeing 2 liters. But I have brought more than that on several occassions.

Just wonderring if anyone has ever hit the limit and got burned.

CC rewards 2% whatever, can be offset by rate / tran fees. Cash is the worst.

YMMV[/QUOTE]Yes, the ATM debit card will give you the best exchange rate. But the credit card will also give you virtually the same exchange rate.

I take no chances, I read the fine print. If both cards charges no fees and if the ATM debit card refunds the foreign ATM charge, then both exchange rates are the virtually the same.

The credit card will have a better effective rate if you calculate the credit card rewards.

Pretty obvious, as with a DEBIT card you take your money from your bank account, with a CREDIT you BORROW it. They are lending you money and they charge a fee (VISA and MASTERCARD live on that).

NEVER NEVER use a credit card to get cash, unless one wants to borrow it because short of it. Always use a debit card.
