Question for the board: Do you think a tip at the entry will loosen the bouncer at RB4?
I have never seen people tipping the bouncers at any of the agogo clubs. Contrary to the practice in Western discos (where you risk to be 'bounced' if you forget the bouncer's tip when going outside) , such is not the case in Thailand yet. Perhaps we should not give the bouncers any ideas in that respect.
Perhaps we should not give the bouncers any ideas in that respect.
Agree! We really don't want to be in the situation that we need to tip bouncers just to get in to anywhere in BKK.

[QUOTE=Paul Kausch; 1564097.
To me the more important questions are how much wealthier will the average person in China be (much wealthier I hope) ; and how well will the average person in the US be faring.
I think that one of the things that skews any data like this is that it's looking at averages. I'm sure that the wealthiest and poorest in America, Australia, etc. Are much closer to the average than in China. I'm assuming that we look at the middle 90% and disregard the bottom and top 5% as unreliable outliers. I would think in China the average is pulled down by a significantly higher percentage of poor when compared to a small, but growing middle class. I would also say that the ultra-wealthy in China probably are not accounted for as their money is probably well hidden.
Even if the top end of the China, those who are now travelling more, make up a small percentage, a small percentage of a really big number is still a big number.
I saw an interesting article the other day about Chinese tourist in Chiang Mai and how they were considered to be quite rude. It was noted that a lot of them were peasants from small towns who had never traveled but suddenly became wealthy when their land was bought for developments. I'd say this is a small number though, however everywhere I've been in China there does seem to be a building boom going on.
Hope I didn't ramble on too much.
Lord. Great comments from everyone on your experience. Just want to add that it's pretty standard for us Indians primarily (like you state) because of the 'cheap charlie' behavior; but, on my many trips to BKK, it has happened every single time to me at Rainbow 4. I don't see it as much at Soi Cowboy, or at other places in NEP. My personal favorite in NEP is Spanky's where I have never had issues. Overall, I don't like NEP very much. Prefer the layout of SC and may check out PP on an upcoming trip.
Question for the board: Do you think a tip at the entry will loosen the bouncer at RB4?
Cheers / Pulse.
Faced the same problem at the entry of Rainbow 4, I, on the other hand was asked to pay THB 1, 000 for entry. Strange request, decided against paying because none of the other customers entering the place were being asked to pay a similar amount for entry.
Hopefully, the scene at the other joints in NEP and Cowboy are more Indian friendly.
I think that one of the things that skews any data like this is that it's looking at averages.
There are several ways to calculate an average. One may calculate the arithmetic, geometric and harmonic means; and there are the median and the mode. Average incomes are determined by calculating the median, which is the value that separates the higher one-half of values from the lower one-half of values. Accordingly, it adjusts for the highly skewed nature of national incomes.

Spankeys NEP
fellow mongers,
i would like to share my experience at spankeys, one night last week, one of the few bars showing full nudity and which i usually enjoy. firstly let me say that i am not a water sipper and i am not from the sub- continent and normally drink between 12 and 16 beers each night in the bars.
upon entering the bar about 11:30pm and drinking my first beer, once the level in the bottle got below that which was visible because of the foam cooler, various service staff would pick up my drink and shake it to determine the level. i found this behaviour arrogant to say the least, not only because it frothed up the beer but i found it extremely rude. when i finish my beer which normally takes about 30 to 35 minutes at that time of night, i will order another or leave. after about 30 minutes, with about 10% of my drink remaining! a female dressed in a black and white floral dress, whom i later found out was "in charge" confirep001ed the foam cooler. i complained that i had not finished my drink and she replied "you take one hour". i chased after her and retrieved the foam cooler and finished my drink.
against my better judgement i ordered another beer and this appalling behaviour continued with the second beer. after i finished that one i took the empty and my "check bin" to the cashier and asked to speak to the boss or manager. this was met with blank stares until finally the cashier pointed to the female who had taken my foam cooler earlier. i assumed that she was the person in charge.
i suggest that any member who would find this treatment of a customer to be unacceptable, avoid spankeys. i certainly will in future and won't be back. comments welcome.
johnie.

What I was trying to say was that the averages do not show the complete picture of the wealth distribution in China, especially for those who are now travelling. That is, they earn significantly more than the average wage. If you think of the average wages in the US and other western countries then I would expect to see a bell curve distribution, whereas in China I think it may be a skewed curve, more skewed to the lower percentiles (Left side) than the right. Whilst that would mean less wealthy people above average as a percentage, they are still a higher number due to the overall population.

Without using more precise mathematical jargon it is very difficult to explain these concepts. Incomes in China, in the US, in all countries are skewed. What distinguishes China and the US is there is greater dispersion of incomes in China. The majority of people have very low incomes, there is a relatively small but growing middle class and a very small number of very wealthy individuals. In the US the are some poor people, the majority of people have a moderate income and there is a very small number of very wealthy individuals. The distribution of incomes in both countries has a long tail going in the positive direction, representing larger incomes. The hump reflecting the income range of the largest segment of people would be further in the positive direction in the US than in China. However, because of China's huge population the relatively small middle class is numerically large. China is working very hard to grow this middle class. They understand a large middle class is key to social and political stability, which they value above all else. If something close to current trends continue, in a decade China's middle class will be enormous.

Sim card?
Is there a place around nana or cowboy that sells sim cards for you phone? Went into mall 21 and didn't see anything but a samsung store.

Is this a China thread? Boring.
Is there a place around nana or cowboy that sells sim cards for you phone? Went into mall 21 and didn't see anything but a samsung store.
Upstairs in T21 there is a Vodafone store.

There is one just down Soi 19 which is next to T21. Top floor of T21 has the usual True, AIS stores. Probably DTAC too.
Duni, are you sure about Thermae. I was rejected by a girl for no apparent reason last time I was there (quite a long time ago now) , and I have since heard rumours that girls that go with anyone other than Japanese will be shunned, subsequently. I am Farang.
I was refused entry to the Soi 24/1 "Japanese Only" MP, and of course we hear we are not welcome at Thaniya clubs, so being rejected is not all that strange in Thailand.
A really hot girl at a 24/1 MP rejected me, unless I could guarantee a small dick and pass inspection. I was rejected no matter how gentle I guaranteed to be. LOL Rejection comes in many varieties, and its not always exactly for skin colour reasons, but generalising that assumes the way the person will be based on racial stereotype which may not be fair at all.
Hey, I was talking about us brown buggers. No offense meant to the white farangs. Us brown farangs have enough issues as is. :D
But seriously, in the 2 plus decades I have been exploring LOS, I have had rejection only at a couple of go-go bars. My comment was to let the punter know that bars (other than go-go) are good alternatives. Regarding Thermae, I have never been rejected, though recently I have taken to reviewing the girls at the entrance. When you stay at the hotel above, it is quite an experience. I can take all the time I want. The bar there (on the lobby floor) keeps supplying my drinks and I don't have to buy lady drinks. And if you hang around long enough, you come across a few jewels. But then that's my thing. Not for everybody.

Question for the board: Do you think a tip at the entry will loosen the bouncer at RB4?
Cheers / Pulse.
Really? Why would you want to do that? They clearly don't want you. It's their management policy not the bouncers. Have some pride, man.
Really? Why would you want to do that? They clearly don't want you. It's their management policy not the bouncers. Have some pride, man.
I agree here. Even if you are able to secure entry to such a place, the girls very likely will ignore you.
And R4 isn't even the best club in BKK. There are many better alternatives which have friendlier policies.
