Was just in accident on the way to Pattaya. Guy side swipped our taxi on the highway and kept going. Two other cars saw it and someone made the guy stop a ways up. Two guys and a girl. Will be staying and hanging in the general Sukhumvit area, please can anyone (either travelling this week or based out of BKK) give an update on the status (safe or not safe)? Thanks.

If you want superior safety, try SG which will always be safer than BKK at any time in the past decade or for the forseeable future. They also speak English & the pooning is just as good. See the Geylang thread for more info.
OTOH, if you are weighing the PI with LOS or BKK, Siam is generally considered significantly safer, even IMO at times such as this.

I saw no evidence of any organized mob around Sukhamvit area other than the usual Hari Krishnas around soi 7/1 which are a hoot to watch. I just emailed a guy living in the Suk area. Will let you know if her replies. I personally wouldn't let it change my plans. Worst case scenario is there are protests at which point I would head to Pattaya.

Even Soi Cowboy which is located by the old Silom Rally site stayed open. If anything it kept the traffic away and their were more girls to choose from. Nana was completely unaffected and the sky train was wide open to travel to soi 24 and up to visit the massage joints. Your in the clear so don't worry.
