If any of you fellow monger want to try good Filipino Cuisine. There is a place called "Kamayan". It has a Filipino/American/Japanese cuisine it's a buffet place. The Filipino dishes are specialties from different towns. Lunch cost around $6-$8. They also have snack (merienda) that cost $1.25.
Also never drink from a faucet, if you plan to ruin your stay. Always buy bottled water.
Where is Kamayan, seems I've heard of it.
In Davao, I liked Apung Kula (small chain) on Rizal and also across the river; Jack's Ridge, the scene of my "famous" dinners (one time, me, a colleg dean friend from Gensan, my "sister" Mildie, 36 Cherry Blossom Chatters (one stunner, 5'5", 18 YO came from Gensan) and a father of one of the girls. I think it cost me P2200. More would have come but the Jeepnies don't run by there, you have to take a taxi, didn't know that till after I left. My wife and Mildie loned Dencia's around the corner from the Apo and there was another place that sounded like Dencia that they also liked. Haranna for ribs, loved the place, but the ribs were eclipsed by other dishes in 2003.
In Cebu, love the Marriott breakfast. There's also a "Nipa Hut" place not far from the casino that was good, one of the "cultured" Filipina businesswomen that I met in MNL took me there for dinner early on in my first trip. There are a couple of restaurants on stilts just off Olango Island that were good but one of them had a spyglass to see when "foreignors" were coming, got slightly ripped off there and always went to the other one afterwards.
In Baguio, the Cooks Inn, part of a hotel that I stayed in just up from Burnham Park (The Burnham?) was good, great seafood stew and coffee. Also "Cafe by the Ruins" in Burnham Park (northern end) was good.
Bali Hai in Bauang, Aussie owned resort was great (except for Mongolian Night, had better here in US, I don't think their wok gets hot enough. Great breakfasts tho. I had my fiance and another "friend" (kind of like an old GF of mine-her point of view, friend was mine) with me on last trip there in 2002 and I told them to try the Mango Shake (P90) and then they did at every meal, LOL, meanwhile I'm now counting my Pesoes, LOL and not ordering one for myself! Funny story about the "friend". I gave my fiance my neat Panasonic cell phone, after erasing the numbers (wrong). After I retuen to US and she gets home from HK, she call me and says"Oh honey, guess what? So ans so texted me and thought I was you!" This happened a few times, but when she said my "friend" texted me, I called my "friend" who said that she actually got a text and a call from her, LOL. They became great friends and met a few times (this was a purely platonic friendship, so no worries on my part), so when we were in Laoag, I invited her to join us and she did for the next week and a half. So guys, before giving your cell away, buy a new sim for it!
If you are in Makati. There is a place in Glorietta, as always the best way to get there is via taxi. Just tell the taxi driver, "Glorietta", then "Kamayan". They should not have a hard time finding it.
If you are in Manila, tell the taxi driver "Parde Faura", then "Kamayan".
You will find the better Filipino cuisines in the "Kamayan" restaurant.

Tried Zamboanga on Adriatico, was with 2 other couples, couldn't attend one of the couple's wedding in Davao later that week, so I picked up the tab, nearly choked, P7,000! The Korean fiance of the best man had asked to see a crab and a lobster, believe she ordered th crab (both were huge) and of course, they served both. Food was good but I wouldn't call it great.
DimSum place across from Robinson's Mall was good, ate there a couple of times when I wanted a good, quick meal.
My wife is fond of Kenny Rogers' in Robinsons and the food court there also. I usually get a headache the first couple of visits to the food court (not from eating), then I'm fine.
It's actually a chain of restaurants throughout Manila and suburbs. The one in Ermita is on Padre Faura four blocks west (towards the bay) from Robinson's Mall across from the PAL office. The main name on this location is Dad's. Its an all you can eat buffet style restaurant. Dad's combines Kamayan with a Japanese all you can eat buffet that also includes sushi and sashimi. The total cost for Dad's (both) during lunch was 495 pesos. Whee else can you sample the delicacies of the Philippines with all you can eat sushi for less than $10 USD.

Where would you stay, for a few days. I've got eight days that I'll spend in Angeles and Manilla, but would like some advice on where to stay in the big town.

Depends on what your preference is in Makati you are nearby to the bars of Burgos Street and Greenbelt, the malls of Rockwell and Ayala. A big plus, the area has plenty of accommodation, ATMs and wide choice of eateries, all within walking distance. It really depends on whether price is a factor, type of deal you can get or how long you are looking to stay, but l would go with Makati personally.

I would stay near EDSA. Its alot cheaper and you have EDSA and LA Cafe in very close proximity, then you will have more cash for AC. Try the Copacabana Hotel, you can get a great deal there, a beautiful swimming pool and you can walk across the street to EDSA, 15 minutes to LA Cafe. Burgos St. bars are way more expensive, booze and chicks alike. You can always grab a taxi and run over to Burgos one early afternoon or night to check it out. At the Copacabana, you can literally walk across the street, find a girl, and within ten minutes be banging her if you wish. Only ad another 15 for LA Cafe chicks. There are other bars around LA Cafe that you can hit as well. Not far from the airport either. They can get you a safe taxi that works for the hotel to AC for a decent price, or the Swagman Bus is not far for very cheap.

I'm with Juniour here in that I would go with Makati. True, the price and proximity of women is lower in EDSA, but Makati represents a truly nice, livable urban environment whereas EDSA does not. There's just more to do in Makati during the time you're not getting laid and even aside from Burgos, there is probably a greater variety of places in Makati than ini EDSA. Besides, during the evening, EDSA is only a ten minute cab ride away, and LA Cafe and its environs are only about 20 or 25 minutes.

glad i caught this thread today. i'm booking my room for june this week. i'm leaning towards makati as well. can you reccommend a nice hotel with high speed, girl friendly, etc.
i was leaning towards the renaissance as it looks like prime location and has high speed. i'm assuming they're guest friendly as most of them are. rates are showing up around 140 us per night but i havent tried priceline.com.hk yet. mandarin and penninsula look similiarly priced.
my other option is the westin philippine plaza using frequent flyer points. its in pasay.
any thoughts? i searched the threads but could find the specifics i was looking for. thanks much and obrigado.
I am kinda biased being a Makati Resident whenever I am in Manila,But there is a greater variety of restaurants and bars,the place is cleaner and safer also.Like GE said,Edsa and Ermita are only 20 minutes away.The Burgos area is particularly "Kano" friendly and is safe to wander around even at 3 am in the morning,Pasay(Edsa) is defenitely not as safe.Prices are higher though,but put it in perspective,would you make a big deal if stuff was 5$-10$ more expensive,if the tradeoff was safety and convenience,.
It seems like the Mandarin Oriental and Penninsula have really good rates when I'll be in town. Are the higher class hotels girl friendly?

The women are definitely more than $5 or $10 higher in Makati bars than in EDSA and LA Cafe is dirt cheap. I guess it depends on what you want and how much you want to spend.

I have stayed in both. No problem with either of them, or for that matter with any hotel in which I have ever stayed here.
