You can't seem to swim or snorkel anywhere without a boat suddenly appearing and a herd of Chinese jumping into the water and flailing their arms around. Scuba has the advantage that even though dive sites can get crowded it's never anything like snorkeling sites.
I will respectfully disagree about not starting the online thing more than a few days in advance. I know what you say is the accepted wisdom, everyone says it on this board and other mongering forums. But that's not my experience at all. I start many weeks in advance, did it for Phils and two trips to Thailand. I'm transparent and say that I'm not in the country but am fussy about who I meet and so am starting my search early. I keep in touch with a short message every 3 or 4 days so that I stay in their mind, and it shows that I'm serious. I don't get into long conversations as I don't have the time and also that makes you come across as a dreamer who just wants to get off on chatting.
Starting early also helps to weed out the scammers because they just can't help but ask you to send them some money, and then I block them. I can also figure out which ones genuinely haven't dated / fucked a foreigner before and I find they are more fun to meet.
