I am off to the DR for the first time on Wednesday and planning on staying two weeks for some fun. I heard from a friend that it would be wise for me to bring a cell phone to communicate with girls when I am there (I am semi-fluent in spanish). Its always complicated giving them the number of your hotel and if possible, I would like to just give them a cell phone number when I meet girls. Does anyone know if I bring an old sprint pcs phone (motorola flip, no SIM card), can I activate it somehow in the dominican for two weeks? anyone know about pricing? I searched the entire board for info before I posted but couldn't find out any details. Would really appreciate some help.
Thanks in advance guys. Will be sure to post an update when I return!
EDITOR's NOTE: [blue]Posting of this report was delayed pending revisions to remove the forced hard returns in the text.
For those of you who may not be familiar with this concept, a "hard return" is created when you press the "enter" key while typing, thus artificially shortening the length of the text by forcing it to begin on the next line. Hard returns are also caused by some word processing and email programs.
More preferable would be a "soft return" wherein the text is allowed to continue automatically on the next line when it reaches the right side of the screen thus automatically adjusting to the varying width of each viewer's screen.
If your reports are being composed in a word processing or email program that is artificially inserting hard returns in the text, then please consider composing your Forum reports in another program or in the Forum's "Add New Report" window.
To avoid delays in future reports, please consider composing your report in the Forum or in a word processing program that does not insert hard returns in the text. Thanks![/blue]

Sprint PCS can be activated in about 5 minutes at any Verizon outlet (CODETEL) for 100 pesos for the PRL. (If you don t get the PRL your calls will cost more. )
You will need the unlock code it is a ## + 6 digits (not the same unlock for the keypad) If you don t have this code then you will have to pay 500 pesos for them to unlock it.

Rent a phone for $2 a day down there, its simple that way.

Sorry for being naive but has the recent flooding and then the earthquake impact the hobbying situation? Pricing raise? Less chicas available, etc?
I have never been to DR and would like to experience it in the next few months.
Thanks,
Almotu

Jimmy DR,
Provided that your cell phone is capable of being used in the DR, you can pay an additional $10. per month with Sprint PCS, and use your phone in the DR with no problems. You will be charged a rate of .42 cents a minute and you will have to be on one of the america plus plans. Minutes from your plan will be deducted for each call, and nights and weekends are free with just the .42 cent per minute charge. Your Chica will have to call your US area code and seven digit number.
Good luck

Last time I was down there, I bought a brand-new Nokia phone for about 40 dollars from the Orange store right on El Conde in the historical center of Santo Domingo. So if you're staying two weeks, that would mean something like 3 dollars per day, and you keep the phone afterwards. The one I bought clearly wasn't the most expensive one, but it also wasn't the cheapest - if I remember correctly, they had some for as little as 1000 Pesos, in which case, for a two-week vacation, it's actually cheaper than renting at 2 dollars per day, or about the same. You can buy phone cards to charge credits to the phone at any colmado. Rates were reasonable - about 10 US cents per minute for outgoing calls anywhere in the DR, incoming calls are free. The important thing: you keep the number you get as long as you put credits into the phone at least once every three months. So before you leave, buy a bunch of phone cards to periodically refill the credits, and you can keep the same phone and the same number for a long time.

I am hoping to visit the DR from the UK sometime in the period September to November. I am looking for general advice about how to go about things. I know only a few words in Spanish. I am really looking for black chicas.
I am planning to base myself in SD and make some trips to Boca Chica. Is this a good way to go about things?
Is it true that there are quite a lot of Haitian women working in SD, and if so, what is the best way to meet them? (given my lack of Spanish and compatability issues with UK phones anything involving a mobile is not likely to be of much use).
Are there any other British punters out there with experience of the DR?

R Ley,
I am an American who also does not speak a word of Spanish.
I would recommend flying into Puerto Plata and staying at an adult resort called Blackbeards. http://www.blackbeardsadultresort.com/ They will pick you up at the airport. The rooms and food are good. The owner and manager are both Americans, speak Spanish, and will help you have a good time. As far as girls check them out at http://www.blackbeardsadultresort.com/beauties/. Blackbeards screens the girls and make sure that they will treat you right and not rip you off. I had a great time at Blackbeards and am planning a return trip.

NY Traveler:
I have had Sprint service for years. Their price plan for usage is exorbitant! IMHO, better to go with other options presented here previously.

The british are all in the North in the Sosua area!

R ley,
Read your report. When I was in Boca most of the girls were were dominican but dark. If you want Black girls Sosua is full of them. At 18 a session they were good. Talking about Hatians. Also there is an English pub in Sosua where you will be happy to speak English. Sosua is much better all around then the boca region.

I have read an online report of investment company ,which states that you can get up to 24% a yr bank rate in pesos and up to 12% in US $. I have never been to DR nor do I speak spanish.
For all of you who have been there, how true is this statement? If it is true, is that rate guaranteed or insured by goverment? And what best banks out there, can you advise?

Throwing out a tech question here. My firewall HATES this site, and will fend off a few syn port attacks and then close my browser down. Anyone else having this problem? I'm running McAfee VShield.
-
Well being the techie that I am I will offer this advice RearWindow.
First are you using IE only, because you can download other browsers that may not give you the same problem
i.e. Mozilla or Netscape
Try that and let me know how it works for you.
Peace:
