If on the south coast I liked the Isla Sonoa near Bayahibe. Las Terrenas is nice and they have the whales calving in Samana Bay until Mid March. I have done the cable car I Puerto Plata twice and the folks back home think I am a real tourist.

I stayed two nights at the gran bahia el portillo all inclusive hotel (nice hotel, gran bahia operates at least two other all inclusive hotels in Samana). On the Sunday before returning to santo domingo, I drove with the Dominicana to playa rincon. It was at least an hour drive from las terrenas. Three years ago Playa Rincon was a beautiful, practically empty beach (there are a few beach shack restaurants at the west end of the beach). On another day, I had lunch at Baraonda Restaurant in the Hotel Alisei, there were a few Argentines working at that restaurant, food was good. If you get tired of the heat, you can head to the center of the country, where it is slightly cooler. La Vega in February, every weekend for carnaval is popular. Yes, bareback sex is easily available in the DR-that is part of the reason why you see so many children, but whether you should avail yourself of the opportunity is another question altogether. In my opinion, and presumably that of others, bareback sex is almost infinitely more satisfactory than sex with a condom, but on the other hand sex with a condom does protect against conception, AIDS, herpes, and other infections such as hepatitis, syphilis, gonorrhea, clamydia, etc.
Here's my opinion. It really is not worth the trouble of getting AIDS tests, etc. Just so that you can have sex one time with a new paid partner or someone from an agency, because chances are that the sex won't be that great anyway on a one time basis. On the other hand, if you meet someone and have sex with her a couple of times and decide that you want to make her your regular sex partner, then you have to face up to the fact that you aren't going to be satisfied long-term with the reduced level of intimacy provided by condom sex, so you might want to consider both of you getting AIDS tests and her going on the pill (if not already) and that once you have done that have an agreement that neither of you will have unprotected sex with someone else while this relationship is in force.
In general ISG contributors don't favour longer term relationships and are best advised to stick to condom use, but there is most likely some divergence between what people say they do online and what they actually do when the pants are down.
When I first came to the DR several years ago, I knew an expatriate retiree who had lived in the DR for two years and had sex with a couple of hundred chicas and who told me that he had not used a condom with any of them, and had not caught anything. Most people would regard that as rather reckless. He eventually got a Dominicana pregnant, married her, and they left the island together, hopefully to live happily ever after with their child far from the DR.[/QUOTE]Most chicas I have been with for awhile have tried to establish a relationship as a novia. Which is characterized by 1) You don't have to pay for sex 2) you don't have to wear a condom. Of course you will still pay one way or another for sex and be responsible for the consequences of barebacking. But in my experience it's not just available but eagerly promoted by chicas who want to take the relationship up a notch. Personally I still didn't stop using condoms leading to repeated sad "It's up to you papi" expressions of willingness.

As many of you know I see some dirt cheap flights into STI but they arrive at an absurd hour. I know its been answered before but for an up to date price. What is the cab fare from STI to PP? Does anyone know any cheap hotels in STI that I would be able to check into so I wouldn't have to travel to PP at 0130?
