At times of large fluctuations there may be large discrepancies in prices when goods and services are still being sold at the old price and do not take into account recent devaluations of the peso. It would appear, although I do not know from first hand experience, that services paid for in pesos will have been more expensive for dollar earners prior to 2003.

I know that in 2003 I was paying about $US 200 for a porcelain dental crown in Puerto Plata, including the dental work, which seemed very cheap compared to US prices at the time, but I think the price has gone up in recent years and may not be quite such a good deal as before.

In my area in the US, they are now asking for about $800 for the same thing and about $300 to $400 for an extraction. I recently had 7 teeth extracted, plus 5 fillings, plus two temporary partial dentures made for about $900 in Puerto Plata, so I would say the DR still has the edge on prices. A $5 burger in Mexico is always a $5 burger.

In Sosua, $100 still seems to be the holy grail of the high end hookers.

Those of us who immerse ourselves completely in the local economy and think and operate in pesos, save a lot of money. It's the casual tourist that sticks to dollars as his yardstick for prices, because it is easier and quicker and he spends most of his time around the tourist spots anyway.

As a Canadian I take a hit because our dollar is only worth 75 cents US, but everything is relative.

Back in 2007, the cost of a ST at BlackBeard's was 1500 DP. (At a 2007 exchange rate of 33 and change to the US dollar, that equaled about $45 US). Today, a ST costs 1800 DP, at an exchange rate of about 47 pesos to the dollar. That amounts to about $38 US. Inflation in the US has been minimal in the wake of the Great Recession of 2008, so the cost truly has gone down. Contrast that with the cost of living in the DR, where utilities, food, etc, have gone up in that time, due partly to the decline of the DP. The only thing that has gone down in price in the DR is sex.

Just a quick report, nothing really new to add. I got to town about 3 pm. As I was driving in, there were many more chicas on the strip early in the day compared to what I seen seen before. Mostly Haitians or 5's or 6's. But a few head turners. On my other trips, it was slim pickings during the day. In the late afternoon, I selected a tall, thin caramel skinned Hatian. Very cute and fit, no fat at all. She did BBJ, multiple positions. Pretty good service, not GRE. I offered $1800 and gave $2000 at the end.

At night, after 11, there were more Chicas at Classicos, and you couldn't walk in the bar next door. Rumbas is closed but the side streets had much activity in all the bars down to New Garden.

I got out about 11 am for breakfast, quite a bit of activity. If no storms, I will head to the beach. My first trip was 3 years ago, after the so called hey day. But each trip, since then, I would say, if you can't find something, you ain't trying. But yesterday, there were many more selections by far from any trip.

The only negative thing about Sosua are the negative people that visit. I always have a great time time and get there every 6 weeks or so, biased perhaps. But if you go for just one day you will enjoy yourself.

In addition there are great restaurants and beaches, friendly locals and it's relatively a compact little town! A great, and cheap, destination.

I spent 3 more days in Sosua after the first report. I had an outstanding performer from a couple of years ago from Santiago that I think came down because I was in town. I am sure that I wrote about her two years ago. More about her later.

I spent some time at the beach all days. I like the beach here, and the food is good. I had several massages at Karinas, Becky was my therapist. Pretty good, not as good as M and M which I went to once. Luz Maria doesn't work there now, not sure who I had, but very good.

One evening, I made my selection, fairly thin, light brown skin, not Haitian. Something about her gave me a good vibe, nice slim body. Face not beautiful. After we agree to a price ($1000) the attitude seemed to change. (she quoted the price). I should have cut bait, but went on with it. We got to the room, she stripped, immediately started reminding me for propina. She started BBJ, then ask for propina, Mish, asked for propina. She let me do her culo, then while I'm in her ass, asked for propina. If she would have just STFU, I't would have been a pretty good session. It turned me off so much, I couldn't leche. I don't think they allow girls to be agressive if on the grounds, they may say Hello, or make eye contact. Even in the later morning a few looking through the gates trying to get your attention, along with the ED vendors.

My Chica from two years ago met me around 2 pm on Sunday. We kept up some contact on Whatsapp the last two years. She is about 4'10, curvey body, big MM, but soft. The first time I saw them, I thought they were real. The ass is on nice round Dominican ass, looks like basketballs cut in quarters and ass molded on top. Part of the game is that you will probably encountered a problem chica, but I think less so here than in for street performers elsewhere in the DR. This trip, after Sosua, going to Cabarete. A few days away will be good. Not going to actively hunt, but who knows. Then on to Blackbeards. I would recommend for first timers, spend a few days in Sosua, then Blackbeards. Then, If you don't like it, don't come back! I wasn't here during the heyday, but there is plenty of talent here now, not hard to find!

I know this, but still get careless sometimes. When paying, count count it out in front of the chica, and be clear about price and everything else. Still won't always be enough, but overall, you will have a great time if you use some common sense. If all this info scares you but you want to try Dominican women, tryout Blackbeards. My first time in DR was Juan Dolio. A pretty low key place, a few street women, but also had a Casa run by an American guy and his wife.
