Think Rio's buses are safe? Everyone forgotten how the buses are driven in Rio? BTW, I've been on many buses in Rio, from the lowly city buses to the Luxo Tour Buses. It's a hell of a ride, usually with me hanging on for dear life. (LOL) I think the bus driver's have race car driver fantasies.

If you are coming from the direction of the beach, it is on the right hand side of Sequeira Campos right around the corner from the bar with the big yellow Brahma beer awning. It has a 22 on each side of the narrow doorway. It's like a locals bar that offers P4P, not like NS Copa P4P shacks with optional beer. It was packed full when I went there, and no other gringos in the place. A little intimidating at first to be the lone pale gringo in a place full of drunken raucous Brasilados, but I dress down, sport a pervy expression, and mind my own business so I blend into most mongering environments virtually unnoticed.

Not sure if you have ever been to Rio. I stepped out of my hotel late yesterday afternoon, had a suco and on a whim decided to walk the 2 blocks to Luomo to say Hello, to Barry, the South African bartender, and see what was "shakin'" there. They were like kids in a candystore. They were giggling and fist pumping. Of course, the ladies played into this as all of them got up, faced them and danced for them. Within 15 minutes these guys were all gathered in what used to be the waiting room, giggling and making session plans. Classic. Hell I walk the streets in Centro or back by my hotel near the Metro and I see endless streams of beautiful ladies all going about their days. Be open minded about going with the flow (using the information and tools that the experienced guys here have so graciously provided) and enjoying the energy and craziness and spontaniety that is Rio. Otherwise you may miss out and be let down.

It's true. They seem to move from stationary to very fast in the blink of an eye. I think it's a Rio thing. Buses in Belo Horizonte or Belem, for instance, drive like anywhere in Europe - what we would call 'normal.' In Rio, you do need to get into the habit and hold on. Hard. But after a few trips you should be getting to do it casually, the way everyone else does. From favela dwellers to bankers and business men.

I see no advantage in watching videos of crashes. If I said, it's safe to fly Air France to Brasil, would you use photos of an air crash to prove it wasn't. Of course not. The fast roads on Rio's highways have a fair share of accidents, pedestrians, motorcyclists, cars & taxis, and buses. Maybe even in that order. The Metro is the safest way to travel (equivalent to sexual abstinence) but then you need to cross the road when you get off. Air travel is the safest way to travel, but even the big carriers have nasty accidents. Rio's bus network is huge. [b]Huge.[/b] More than most big cities of a comparable size perhaps. The percentage of accidents and robberies is tiny. But if you don't like buses, simple: don't use them.

My post was simply to try to help those who want to. I could have posted some pictures I have instead of a bus crash outside my apartment. For a westernised experience with nice slow buses, cheap pussy and posh pussy, and lots of nice westernised amenities, I recommend Belo. Rio is maybe particularly good for those who like living on the wild side IMO, even if it caters for everyone! Enjoy. I like the bus- and metro-net in Rio, but I think one problem with the buses in Rio are that there are too many of them. Take a luck at N S Copacabana in rush hour, buses as far as you can see.

The buses ran fast, which they propably have to do to keep the timetable and try to get past the red lights. In one way it's good as you get to the destination quick. It would help if they got rid of this topics/vans (didn't they make them illegal?). They are a real hassle in the traffic, stopping at the bus stops.

I think the major danger in Brazil is the traffic. Always beware when waiting to cross N S at a red light. Stand to close and you'll get the bus driver's mirror in your head when he sweeps towards the bus stop.

Oglobo is reporting that Rio Gov. Cabral, after speaking with the president of ALERJ, regarding Help's employees, has decided to allow Help to remain OPEN until after the New Year. Terraca Atlantica will also remain open.

Hughdad, your post is constructive.
I have been to Rio three times, but now it's a while since I was there the last time. I was not aware of this board when I was going — I just went there and checked out the different places (4x4, MC, L'Uomo, Centaurus, Help etc.) to see what I could find. And of course, as you say, there are indeed so many beautiful ladies everywhere and I have always found bundas to make me satisfied!
