Not really
What I said was that if you want GFE in Sosua it helps and may required that you speak some Spanish. My buddy had 14 sessions with 11 different women in 6 days. He speaks very little Spanish.

You called it "My buddy just got back had a great time".
That's like holding up a cross to a vampire, in this forum! :)

Sosua this month
Did 8 nights there after Panama this month. Case Valeria next to New Garden great Boutique hotel, in the middle of the action. Sosua a small place, but plenty of ladies strolling around day or night on the street where Clasico's is, and down towards the beach. Easy to spot with the tight fitting hooker clothes. Most asked $US 40 or DR2,000. No problem with BBJ. I live in Thailand, so its a fair comment that these Carribean ladies are a little meatier than their Thai cousins, but very friendly, and are sexy in their own right. Food & beer is cheap, money changers everywhere. I liked the recently opened Piano bar which had some cute spinners but no bar-fines there. Sinatra's had live music Weds & Fri evening. If you live in the States on the East Coast then DR is a 2 hour hop from Miami. Thailand or Philippines is a 24-30 hour journey, but worth the effort if you have got time to make the comparison.

Newbie
Hello all,
Planning my first trip to DR and was recommended to Sosua since I'm a newbie. So I have a couple of questions. Is it best to deal with chicas with US dollars or should I get everything converted to pesos? If conversion is best do the rates they charge to convert vary greatly? Obviously I don't want to get ripped off. I was looking at Casa 22 or Casa Veintiuno (based on tripadvisor) but I want you guys opinion. I want something slightly upscale but not too expensive and good location for access to chicas. Any recommendations? Also, do I need to get a DR phone when I land? I heard somewhere it makes things easier but I'm not sure if that's still the case.

Definitely change your dollars into pesos. Many Dominicans are not very numerate so if converting a peso price to dollars in their head they will round up to be on the safe side. For example, a chica may want to charge you 2000 pesos (about US $42) but if you only have dollars she would probably round up to $50.
Casa Veintiuno is a top-notch and expensive restaurant. If they offer accommodation that is no doubt expensive as well. It is in the wrong part of Sosua (Los Charamicos) for chica-hunting unless you have decent Spanish and are street-wise. Does not sound a good option to me.
Where to change money, others will know better than me, but definitely not inside the airport as they give the worst rates. Western Union are also bad. There are money changers on the streets and in small kiosks which a lot of guys trust and have used for years but if you want to be ultra secure use a bank or Caribe Tours. Before I lived here permanently I always relied on drawing cash each day (or two) using my debit card. Had to pay various charges but did not have to worry about holding all the cash for my trip in my room. If you do that, warn your bank in advance you will be using your card(s) in the DR or they might put a security stop on it.
If you are here for more than a long weekend it would definitely be worth investing in a Claro chip for your phone. Costs 100 pesos and comes with a few minutes. You will get the best results chica-hunting by collecting phone numbers at night to meet the girls in the day when they do not have the opportunity of quick turn-rounds to squeeze in another client. They may even want to socialize with you and go on little trips which will make your trip more interesting. Most of the girls (not all) are looking for a longer-term gringo boyfriend who will support them so can be very sweet and attentive when away from the night-time meat-market. They will still want paying for their time though. If you buy them presents and meals they will not count that towards payment.
Hope you have a great time and report back to us. If here for more than a few days you might fancy a trip to Puerto Plata where I live for a change of scenery as Sosua is a very small town. The gringo part is only a village, really. You can ride to Pto Pta and back in a publico (shared taxi) for 100 pesos each way using both front seats for comfort. It is about 12 miles and takes 35 minutes.

My Spanish is minimal at best, I read it better that speak or understand it spoken to me. I'm hoping google translate will get me through.
Can you or anyone recommend a couple similar hotels in a better area for mongering?
Gotcha on the pesos. I will look for a bank or Caribe tours. I'm flying Spirit into Santiago, landing at like 2 am, I will need to have some pesos for the transport to the hotel (one hotel I talked to said if they arranged transport for me the ride with be about $135 us does that sound right? So I will have to convert some at the airport I guess.
I am planning to stay 5 days I will definitely hit you up while I'm there.

I would just add, use your bank card at the local banks ATM in Sosua, and you will get the current international exchange rate, and don't carry on your person more than an evenings budget, and you will be free from worry! Learn to use pesos and you'll not be fumbling and trying to count change in dark restaurants and bars. A dead newbie giveaway and not cool!
Hotels are in another group, but chica friendly hotels in the middle of the action are Europa, Rocky's, Sosua Sunrise, New Garden, Casa Valeria and Terra Linda, roughly in order of price! Breakfast or dinner included is always a consideration.
Stay away from street hustlers wanting to be your friend, or they'll be following you around for a week!
Have fun, and get back to us!

[/QUOTE]I would not have hesitated to have recommended Sosua Sunrise as first choice when Wilfried was running it, but I understand:
1) He has left for good.
2) It is doubtful when the hotel will re-open (possibly under a different name).
In that case The New Garden is maybe the safest recommendation. I think it has lost its frat-house reputation now and is a bit more sedate. Hardly upmarket, but the advantage is that a newbie can meet other more experienced mongers to show him the ropes on his first couple of days.

Absolutely right. Most of them are harmless and some can be amusing, but the point is that they can do nothing for you that you cannot do for yourself and if you are unlucky enough to hook up with a real wrong'un he could involve you in financial loss or police trouble.

The OP gives no clue as to when he might be arriving. If it is another "maybe after Easter" fantasy I will drop out of this conversation.

Check with your bank and see if the DR has a partner bank with yours. You may be able to avoid some transaction fees if they have an ATM related to your bank in the city. If you are changing US dollars, there is a place near the New Garden (a good place for lunch or breakfast even if you don't stay there). Walk from the NG toward the ocean, take a right on the first street. There is a change place on the right, just past the massage place. Got rates and I haven't been ripped off. You don't want to carry much $$ in the streets.
There are several ATM's around town, but some of them only give small amounts. The Bank Popular gives up to $10,000, a little over $200. This is probably the max you can get. From New Garden, toward the ocean, but take a left. Look for Baileys restaurant on the right, the past Baileys is the Banco Popular.
Have fun!
