Here in the USA, we have had to develop a culture of "talking around" specific things happening at a particular business. I'm all for open discussions. My point was that, with the new German law (not that new any more), there is another factor to consider as posters here on ISG basically self-regulate how and what we post. Because of the laws in the USA, we choose to self-regulate what we post on USASG differently than we do here on ISG. Posters here on ISG come from many different countries and cultures. That's great, and, with all the diversity, it's amazing that we communicate as well as we do with each other.

My point was that not only do folks here self-regulate, some over-self-regulate.

What is not OK however is when folks try to regulate the writings of others (that is strictly the role of moderator). If I feel that by writing something I am jeopardizing the career of a WG, then I have the right to remain silent or write it in a different way. That is my prerogative. However, if I feel that the writing of another member will jeopardize the career of a WG, then I can voice my concern on that issue but I have no right to tell the other member what he can or cannot write.

Every time someone makes comments about not wanting to discuss AO or whatever because of the "new" law, they create implicit social pressure on others to not discuss certain topics.
