It was originally sung in Portuguese, and Stan Goetz was looking for somebody who could sing it in English. I don't recall how he knew Astrud Gilberto and her husband, but it was the husband who Goetz initially wanted to sing the song in English. But, it ended up being the housewife Astrud, who was really not an established and / or accomplished singer at the time. You can tell by her stage presence (or lack of it) in the YouTube video I posted. In any event, the song always puts me in a good mood and leaves me dreaming longingly of Brazil. Turgid's favorite is also a good tune!

Ok. 4 x4. Will explain for noobs. You go inside and to your right you'll see a whiskey bar. Past that whiskey bar is a small staircase. You want to go straight up that small staircase and open the door at the end of it. This will lead you to the counter where you can set yourself up. Surprisingly there is a worker there who speaks excellent English. She will explain everything. They give you something to wear on your wrist and you pay once you are set to leave the establishment. They take card (including the ability to tap your card to pay for those whose card chip isn't cooperating).
So found a skinny well shaped negra all alone there. Forgot her name. Most girls are whiter skinned so this beautiful negra stood out. We did 90 minutes. She was alright.
