Considering we're talking about the DR, I'm not sure whether I have more faith in a local clinic or a kit mailed to me which claims to give 99.8% accurate results in 15 minutes.

Leaving Sosua.
At Mr. E: Thanks for the link. Excellent write-up. Camaro can certainly write a trip report!
Finished up with 2 x STs (once I'd finally caught up with unreliable, stoner moto chica. Ludia - and got my laundry back). The sessions were good (very good in the case of the 2nd chica. Enthusiastic BJ sin condom, French & she topped it off by bringing herself off) but no matter how many times you confirm 2 hours with them, it seems they'll go after 1 letche and not a lot I could do about it.
I'm now on a Caribe Tours bus to La Vega (3 hours; 250 peso). From there, I'll take a guagua to Jarabacoa.
I've mongered in different places around the world. Sosua was largely a good experience. Although it's different in its own way.
Weigh it against the possibility of being stuck with a dirty, unsterilized needle.
My fear exactly. Is that the case though, or would a clinic in Santiago or Santo Domingo be up to western standards on things like sterilisation? I was suprised at how modern Metro buses were, considering most of my exposure to the DR has been Sosua.

Fishing trips
I remember someone mentioning they went on a fishing boat in Sosua. Given I am an avid fisherman I would not mind paying for a fishing excursion. Anyone have any recommendations or experiences?
Showdown.

Showdown.
Can be booked via Scuba Dive Sosua. I communicated with them via email initially. Or you can call down to their shop. At the entrance to the playa. Opposite the slipway / car park. I booked a place on a shared charter (5 Canadians and me). Cost 75 USD. Left at about 8. 30 - back around 1. Drinks and some snacks included.
It was enjoyable but no fish. We saw lots of flying fish. That's about it. The Canadians felt that if it was done properly we would have stopped to fish (we were just 'trawling'.

Showdown.
Went on an all day deep sea fishing trip with about 6 other guys in Sept a few years ago. All got sea sick except for me, cause I took Bonine for motion sickness & they all said they didn't need it. LOL We never even got a nibble. The boat ride was fine & in good shape, but can't remember who we used, but not was around the price of Joe100's.

Showdown.
If you want adventure Hemingway style, you can go down to the river in Charamicos and get a local to take you out in his open boat.
No fishing gear, and you'll have to hold the line in you bare hands. Good luck with that if you hook something big!
You might also get wet trying to come back in to shore over the surf.
Not recommended for the squeamish!
I told to one of the chicas from last trip that when I return I want her to get tested so I can go BB, she said okay. I suggested a home test kit but she said she'd prefer to go to a clinic. She said it costs 500 pesos and they give the results in 3 hours. If that's correct, it seems a decent option, considering the kits I've found online cost at least $40. She said the clinic only tests for HIV but I'm sure that can't be true, wouldn't they test for other common STD's at the same time?
Considering we're talking about the DR, I'm not sure whether I have more faith in a local clinic or a kit mailed to me which claims to give 99.8% accurate results in 15 minutes.
I am aware that if she's slept with someone in the weeks before my trip (she's a semi pro) I'm still taking a risk. Plus I need to pull out to make sure I don't leave a mini me behind.
Any advice on use of kits and local clinics would be appreciated. I'd like to get her tested for all the common ones and would like the results fairly quickly.
You are correct about risk. Making them take a HIV test if they barebacked someone the day before,2 days before,7 days before,14 days before even 4 weeks before IT MOST LIKELY won't SHOW!
So whoever here is carrying test kits you better be around her for a month and test again. Just saying. It provides no security knowing their lifestyle givin up the p to carlos and juan bareback in the barrio.

A waste of time and money. Any HIV in her body acquired in recent weeks is unlikely to show, nor will any acquired since she was tested. And few dominicanas use condoms in their private relationships.
If guys want to be obsessive about HIV then that is their choice. But it is disproportionate. It is extremely difficult to acquire HIV through normal heterosexual intercourse. They should be more concerned with diseases which can fuck up your life badly and are a lot easier to pick up. Hepatitis, rabies and tetanus are just three of them. And I would guess that a lot more visitors to the island are killed and seriously injured in traffic accidents, fights and muggings than ever contract HIV. Plus in ten years here I have seen many a monger committing suicide by excessive alcohol intake. The godfather of mongering on the North Coast always used to (half jokingly) justify his non-stop intake of rum by saying the alcohol killed any sexual diseases he may have picked up (he never used condoms as far as I know). It was not STDs which brought his colorful life to a premature end but a destroyed liver.
Since when has a disease given a fuck about where a person was?
Are you being serious? You don't see why the risk is higher with a working girl in a brothel town, who's having sex on a daily basis with random men from all over the world, than it is with a civvy??
