Looking for a little advice...
Okay, so I'll be down there around Halloween and I hear Mangoes is the place to be for the costume party. Does everyone dress for this or do only Gringos participate and local guys look on? Any ex-pats in need of someone to shop up some costumes for them on our way down? By the way if you guys haven't seen the hotties at the nightclub scene check out the Colombian version of Napkin Nights called Pegateya.com. I'd say Carnival at Mangoes is probably the wildest! There are some outrageously gorgeous women on the site and it sealed the deal for my upcoming visit to Colombia!
Also wondering about what camera to bring. I prefer my SLR because of how sharp the images are but with the recent crime described here I'm wondering if I should bring a smaller camera. I've got a Canon Elf but is so soft on the image focus. Am considering picking up a G11 (about the size of a handycam) as my G3 used to take great shots. Thoughts anyone? Does Mangos allow cameras/camcorders inside? Most of the stuff I see on YouTube looks like it's from a cell phone.
I'm also thinking of trying to improve my Spanish and have been looking at language schools. Can anyone recommend a school offering short term instruction? I would be great if they also taught English to cute Paisas that I might be able to meet for. ONS, SLR, LTR, friendship etc. Yeah, sorry I'm more of a part time monger. Getting too old and tend to agree with Gregg that there comes a time in life where you slow down and just want to have something real. Something stable. Someone to talk to, to share thoughts with. Okay I'll stop because I'm making the hard core mongers I'll. Sorry.
So I've read the forum on where to go to find my fun with prepagos. But may I ask where would one go to meet regular ladies (non prepagos) that might be interested in an LTR with an asian gringo if I were the right man. Meaning no insult to these places but do places like MM, Executive Hotel, VIP ect have a reputation in Medellin? That is if I were staying at one of these mongering hot spots, would I lose credibility with regular ladies?

SLR vs point & shoot cameras

Bring both an SLR & a Point & Shoot. You will have opportunity to use both.
Mango's allows cameras inside. Not sure though if you want to lug around an SLR all the time. This is where a good point and shoot comes in handy.
SLR shots are the way to go at the homestead, especially with a nice Paisa in front of the camera. However, no need to get ridiculous and bring a SLR that's in the thousands of dollars range. I have seen gents do just that although I could see from their use of the camera and photo results that they don't really spend time learning how to effectively use the camera's multi functions to the point of which they just turn it on auto and end up with a point and shoot SLR!
Cheers,
