The DR has some of the highest taxes in the world for using their airports. Most places you only have to pay coming in or leaving out, but DR gets you coming in AND leaving out. There is less supply/seats in and out of Puerto Plata, therefore the tickets cost more. Most people that live in the area or are from the area will fly in and out of Santiago for cheaper tickets.

Maybe you need a new nutshell. If you're on a budget it makes no sense to fly to Puerta Plata. It's cheaper to fly to Santo Domingo, from there the bus is about $10 to Puerta Plata and it's a comfortable and interesting ride. About the same price to Sosua. Or you have Boca Chica much closer.

I am really surprised no one mentioned the much lower cost of everything in Colombia compared to the Dominican Republic. It is more than enough to cover a $200 to $300 higher priced airfare.

I'm never on a budget and if push comes to shove, I most definitely keep enough pesos to get back to America, even if I have to charter a flight. I was just in Boca Chica, waste of time. Nothing special, girls are not good looking at all. 5-6 rating at best. Beach is nice, but that is it. There is a nice bar within a casino in Santo Domingo, but that is it. Medellín and Bogota is way better.

Don't type it in the open that Boca Chica is a waste of time. We have a few Board Members who swear by the DR, even in our Medellin thread. LOL, Pollo negro is out!

To each his own. I prefer the mongering in Medellin. I like the beach in Sosua. I prefer the accomodation in Poblado. I prefer the mongering in Centro. Its all a matter of taste.

It's all about having options. Do what works best for you. Brazil, Thailand, Philippines, DR, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico and so on. Each place has it's advantages.

In Medellin, there is something for everyone. Online, Lleras, centro, etc.

As long as you have fun is all that matters. Don't worry about others. Some people like a basic budget experience and others want to have a hottub 4some overlooking the city.

Boca Chica is Haitian Central. You'll be hard-pressed and / or unimpressed if you are used to the variety of Medellin. I wouldn't suggest BC. Santo Domingo Santiago Puerto Plata San Pedro or Punta Cana all would be better to suggestion. However Medellin is more organized And professional.
Its funny I have yet to see someone using a stripper pole in the DR.

The obvious example was Pasions in Sosua. Santiago and Santo Domingo have plenty of places that have stripper poles.

Never heard of this club. Where is it located?

Our driver took us to phase 2. I kind a like this strip club. There were other Americans in there as well. Apparently this place is popular. The chicas in there ranged from 6 to 9. There were maybe about 20 on hand. The price was 190,000 pesos One hour session on site.
